We take our final bite from Gameweek 5 to chew over a Saints striker running amok, the relentless march of the blue side of Merseyside and the team sheet fallout from a week of Champions League action…

The Player

Rickie Lambert has adjusted to top-flight football with ease – his quality in and around the box apparent from the moment he took the field from the bench at City in Gameweek 1. The strike at the Etihad hinted he could more than deliver on his budget Fantasy price tag and further returns against United and a brace in the win over Villa have confirmed this.

Lambert’s confidence is now flowing, just in time for the Saints’ fixture list to ease and hand the marksman every opportunity to add to his tally. There’s even ambitious talk of rivalling Robin Van Persie’s strike rate from Lambert himself…

“I want to be in the race for the Golden Boot. It is a massive achievement to win it. I will give it a good go and try my best. There are so many good strikers out there now but who knows? It could be my year…If you can say I am up there with Robin van Persie at the end of the season in terms of goals I will be very happy.â€

If the Saints forward can even get close to chasing Van Persie’s goal tally as the season progresses then he will be on course to deliver spectacular value on his price tag. Currently we’ve seen just a small increase to 6.1 in Fantasy Premier League, while a value of 6.8 in the Sky Sports game is pushing us towards a 4-3-3 formation.

Strangely, perhaps, the pace of Lambert’s bandwagon trails others out there. Currently, both Steven Fletcher and Demba Ba are attracting more interest and with Dimitar Berbatov also a major consideration, it appears that we’re spoilt for choice for options to freshen our forward lines. Clearly, Southampton’s indifferent form and a tough trip to Goodison this weekend are still deterring many from jumping on board .

However, Lambert has shown he has the quality to aspire to become a “fixture proof†asset and with assured starts, spot-kicks and a blossoming fixture list, there appears to be little standing in the way of him becoming a key figure in our Fantasy squads in the weeks to come.

The Team

Everton are looking irresistible right now, so much so that overloading on three of their players for the weekend clash with a porous Southampton defence looks alluring. And this is without Nikica Jelavic in the mix – he is set to return to the squad for the midweek Capital One cup tie to add an extra ingredient.

David Moyes’ side have demonstrated they can compete with the very best at Goodison in earning three points against United in Gameweek 1, and have since shown both goalscoring threat and a resolute defence, with the defeat at West Brom their only real blip so far.

Saturday’s demolition of Swansea at the Liberty was ruthless. Forget the red card for Nathan Dyer, Everton were dominant before this and should have put the game to bed in an opening half-hour period which saw both Marouane Fellaini and a rejuvenated Victor Anichebe terrorise a weakened Swans backline.

Fellaini has succeeded in edging above team-mate Steven Pienaar in our thinking again – having lost the mantle following the South African’s stunning creative show against Newcastle, Felliani’s goal threat just can’t be denied. Both appear assured picks for the Saints clash and one of the pair looks almost essential for a run of Gameweeks that should cement the Merseysiders’ place in the top six.

As for Leighton Baines, we surely cannot sing his praises further. While big outlay on our defences is jarring, Baines should be considered as a winger with clean sheets thrown into the bargain. He continues to offer a relentless supply of chances from the left flank and Everton appear to have the confidence and quality to gain from them.

The Talking Point

The decision to bench Carlos Tevez for Sunday’s meeting with Arsenal confirmed that Roberto Mancini will, along with the man in charge on the other side of Manchester, provide Fantasy managers with plenty of concern as the season unfolds. Tevez was given just 23 minutes to maintain his record of returns in every Gameweek so far and duly drew a blank for his owners.

That failure came in a week that again saw both Michu and Eden Hazard fail to deliver – the latter subbed on hour-mark as Champions League rotation took a bite out of our Fantasy squads.

City next face European action against Dortmund a week on Wednesday, three days before taking on Sunderland at the Etihad. While we can likely look to Tevez to earn a start at Fulham next weekend, there has to be concerns that Mancini will call on him and Aguero against the Germans, perhaps limiting their pitch time in the fixtures around the European clash.

Chelsea have the Danes, FCNordsjaelland, up next following their trip to the Emirates: an easier task, perhaps but the depth of Roberto Di Matteo’s options, boosted by the form of Oscar and the gradual return of Juan Mata to full sharpness, is a concern. Victor Moses is also doing his best to earn starts with two appearances from the bench that have drawn the plaudits. It seems his days of frustrating Fantasy managers have taken on a new twist.

A fortnight ago the Van Persie – Tevez – Hazard holy trinity looked impenetrable and the foundation that offered Fantasy success. Now we find ourselves doubting the integrity of all three as mid-price assets push for inclusion to break up the heavy-hitters’ monopoly.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

After Hazard Nor(h). His returns are not going to be explosive. So i can hold.
Moves planned for the future are likely to be:
          Rafael>Gibbs/Sagna
          Michu>Ramirez
          Hazard>Santi

Did Lescott>Baines. Taking the goal and running. Thoughts?

Think I've done maybe one RMT in my four seasons or so following the site. But I'm struggling a little so, RMT:

    Krul, Jussi,
    Baines, McAuley, Davies, Demel, Clyne,
    Hazard, Yaya, Fellaini, Michu, Routledge,
    RVP, Tevez, Lambert.

I'm 0.1 off having A Hughes instead of Clyne. Keeping Tevez is my main dilemma, he's explosive, but a rotation risk, and having someone like Berbs/Ba allows me to improve everywhere else.

Keep forwards as is for now.

Disagree. Cazorla has been statistically better than Hazard all season and doesn't have to deal with Oscar and Mata stepping on his toes. Take away the penalty goal for Hazard (which I doubt he gets again this season) and you've got almost the same number of points without the complications. Plus, Cazorla is cheaper.

Posted on last page but no replies just 1 guy randomly asking something I dunno. Comon guys. I've been a commenting machine recently. Help a brother out!!

    Team linked. 2 free transfers,

What i'm considering is Michu out for Larsson this weeks transfer. Next week Michu back in for Larsson and decide if another transfer is needed. I bought Michu for 7.2 and and hes now 7.4 so resale value 7.3. It's a given he's going to go down by at least .1 this week so I could afford to get him back in next week with exactly 0 in the bank. It sound good to me right now but it also feels very wrong and unorthodox at the same time.

Really would like some thoughts on what is best to do in this situation. Could i use my 2 FT's better this week? 0 in the bank

problem with the sell/buyback strategy is it assumes nothing else will go wrong or be more pressing.....ie none of your team get injured, no players outside your team become 'must haves' whose value will rocket if you dont get em in quick..etc
it can work......but law of averages, something will happen in the gw that puts paid to your plans without further hits

No way. 0.1 price drop is nothing imo. And i wonder whether your team is really got all departments covered for you to waste transfers. Especially with all different options for almost every spot. Sorry mate but thats my opinion.

Well I just mean that cos hes going down .1 I could afford to get him back in next week. If he didnt he would be 7.4 to get back in and I couldnt afford that. I have 2 FT's Colonel and was just planning this sell.buyback thing as 1 this week so again would have 2 next week.

The point is is this sell/buyback strategy in this instance bad. Would anyone else do it or have they considered it before and dismissed it as a bad idea. Also if so , what could i spend my 2 Ft's on otherwise this week?

Silva and Toure aren't similar players. Silva is always going to in an advanced position with potential for points, but might struggle with rotation. Toure is always playing, but might be pushed to the back depending upon who else plays midfield. It really comes down guessing who Mancini plays, which seems to me to be a pretty worthless waste of time. Might as well wait and see what happens.

Haven't looked at how Fulham and Stoke rotate, but seems good to me. Federici has to go, and Begovic is great value with some nice fixtures coming up.

Sensible transfer, but I'd just keep playing Schwarz for the time being. Unless you save two FTs and there is absolutely nothing in your team to attend to.

Cheers. Thing is I really don't see any obvious improvements elsewhere in my squad and Bego has a superior fixture over Schwarzer this GW.

The voices are back - the ones saying "Tevez to Berbatov". I think they've been reading the Watchlist.

Have Tevez, Defoe and Torres up front, thinking of ditching either Tevez or Torres, but not sure who and who I would replace with. I have Hazard already.

    What are your thoughts?

ok, if i got to torres to Ba, I dont know if i should take a 4 pt hit to upgrade elsewhere or leave it:

      Jass/Foster
      Baines/Demel/Rafael/Davies/Cuellar
      Hazard/Santi/Pienaar/Guthrie/Noble
      Tevez/Defoe/Ba

Im thinking i should upgrade Noble, but not sure...?

Since all have asked you to ship Torres out, keep him. Differential maybe! 😉

Literally do not know what to do with Tevez and Hazard both sitting expensively and reluctantly in my team. No outstanding options as far as I can see. Seems that Hazard certainly isn't worth 1 mil more than Santi though so may simply do Haz>Caz

It's OK to have cash in the bank. The goal is to maximize score not spend.

I hear you, but I just feel there's more value collectively in having Caz + 1mill to improve someone, than Haz long term if they'll more or less score similarly

Any Southampton fans here, do you think that Boruc will be a starter in few weeks? I'd love him to be, he's great keeper.

    From Arsene Wenger:

    Dear Suppoter,

    Blah, blah, blah....

"Laurent Koscielny had a great game and stepped in very well. We have a number of classy centre backs, and it is a very difficult choice. No matter who is left out, they will feel disappointed. But I will rotate the centre backs and take into consideration the strikers we will face."

He's basically saying he's made a mistake making Vermaelen captain becasue he's our 3rd best CB.

Don't be silly. He's flawed, but he's still better than Mertesacker.

Mertesacker has been outstanding for Arsenal this season. Rio like in the way hes reading the game.

You reckon? I'm not soo sure. Mertesacker reads the game so well and he is the one organizing the defence. Koscielny and Vermaelen are also quite similar. Nice position to be in though, finally having 3 quality CBs.

Hard to believe what he says after the talk about RVP being rested before Blackburn game, 7-1. Didn't even sub him after 70 min despite leading.

Btw I will hijack this post of yours, and ask your opinion on Hazard->Gerrard for 3 weeks at-least. Do you think it's gonna be worth it?
