For a second week in a row, our Flutter ambitions were denied at the finishing line. Keving Nolan made his anytime goal, but The Hammers failed to keep Steven Fletcher at bay, whilst an on-fire Eden Hazard was seemingly doused by visitors Stoke City, even though The Blues back-line held firm for the cleanie. We’ve still a couple of tenners profit to play with, but as Paddy starts chipping away at our initial success, we need another decent ride or two to keep our noses in front…

Usually last out of the stalls, our new “Goal-Assist-Cleanie treble” is this weeks front-runner. Robin Van Persie’s hunger for goals has not been dampened by his summer transfer and makes up the first leg of our treble. Our second leg, the assist, comes from the rejuvenated Steven Pienaar. A bit-part player for Spurs, Moyes has made him pivotal to his Everton unit and he’s replied with a goal and three assists so far this term; we fancy him against the visiting Saints. A Sunderland clean-sheet makes up our final leg, and with four low scoring, hard-fought draws so far this season, we feel there’s a good chance of Martin O’Neill’s side keeping out visiting Wigan. Paddy are offering 20/1 for the treble on a Van Persie goal, Pienaar assist and Sunderland clean sheet, and we’re going with a “no guts, no glory” approach with this, throwing £5 on it to try and win £100.

While Pienaar has been on fire this term, it’s been Maouane Fellaini who has been simply irresistible. He’s dominated all but one of the five league games the Toffees have played so far, strong-arming players off the ball and terrorising opponents with his height and technique. If that wasn’t enough, he’s made his mark on the scoresheet, netting three in five. We’re hoping he’ll add to that this week by taking £2 on him to score and Everton to keep a cleanie against Southampton at 4/1.

As we’ve mentioned, Steven Fletcher spoiled our double last week by putting one passed Jussi Jasskelainen at the Boleyn. We’re hopefully turning villain into hero this time around as Fletcher is priced up to score and Sunderland to get a cleanie against Wigan at 9/2. He’s scored ALL of Sunderland’s goals this season so far, so this is a bet we really fancy. As we’ve gone for big risk big reward early on in the Flutter, we’ve only £2 to offer, but considering his scoring record we’re favouring this as our banker.

Last up is the tricky playmaker Santi Carzorla. Arsenal were initially a bit slow to get going but they’ve certainly built up momentum in recent weeks. A 6-1 win in the Capital One cup midweek and a similar scoreline against Southampton two gameweeks past has dispelled fears that without Van Persie, the goals would dry up. Carzorla’s managed three assists and a goal in the league and looks poised to maintain that rate. Paddy are dangling 11/1 for a Cazorla goal and a cleanie against league leaders Chelsea and we’ll have our final quid on that.

Final captains choice agonisation. The thing about Baines (my current C) is that he's obviously got chances of goals (fkicks, pens, direct) and assists plus clean sheet. However Southampton do seem capable of sneaking a goal and Everton are actually less tight at the back than they have been with this new attacking approach.

Felliani's a contender also, although he's not actually as creative as Baines/Pienaar, so if he doesn't score then he's less attractive. Hence, I'm currently wondering if Pienaar's not a better shout. Always likely to assist and due a goal.

      Thoughts?

      Morning peeps,

Due to illness (read stinking hangover) I am not with it this morning, so i am on bended knee asking for assistance. Have a look at my team

      Friedel (Fed)
      Vermaelen Lescott Hangeland (Cuellar Demel)
      Michu Pienaar Morrison Ben-Arfa
      RVP (c) Tevez Petric

I have 1 free transfer and 1.7 in the bank. Petric will probably play now that Berbs in injured otherwise he'd have been turfed

Shall i stick with what i have for this week or make a change?

Going to transfer Berba for a -4 hit before today's fixtures as I'm worried about my attacking options.

I already have Torres and Fletcher... Who would you go for? ... I'm tempted to take a punt on either Kone or Crouch

      Guys, need help....

I NEVER take hits, but this week my knee has been jerking, and I've done an -8 point hit... some of it is long term strategies being brought into play a couple of weeks earlier than anticipated due to injuries.

      Current team now is:

      Begovic (Friedel)
      Baines, Ivanovic, Clark (Cuellar, Harte)
Walters, Hazard, Ben Arfa, Larsson, Michu
      Fletcher (c), Tevez (Berba)

My dilemma is do I start Cuellar instead of Tevez?

Both are doubts. I know this. I'm leaning towards starting Cuellar as he has a tasty home game, and if he is injured then he won't figure at all, activating my substitue, Carlito. I doubt very much that Carlito will start, but may well come on for 30-20 minutes.

Decisions, decisions. What do you all think? Start Cuellar or Tevez?

Think I'd put Saylor on the bench for Gibbs or Rafael but I'm a fairly pessimistic Newcastle fan so you might have a more balanced view than me.

What's in the bank out of interest?

you think they'll get scored on by reading? thing is i can see chelsea and spurs both scoring but rafa and gibbs have attacking potential too... could go either way

1.9 in the bank i believe

If Colo's back we'll be a lot more secure but that's not certain and we've looked shaky without him. Tiote coming back is a big help though.

Don't fancy Spurs to score personally but maybe I overestimate the Man U defence, they have got a few injuries. I'd go for Rafa myself as he seems hugely attacking.

I don't like the lack of Van Persie if being honest.

Imagine how relaxing it would be when the team news comes out with that line up though 😉

And then how excruciating when RVP gets a hat-trick 😉
