Matt Jarvis and Ricardo Vaz Te grab the goals as West Ham register their first win on the road. Adel Taarabt climbs off the bench to fire home a superb strike but Mark Hughes’ side lose yet again to remain in the bottom three…

Kevin Nolan
The Hammers skipper picked up his first attacking returns for the season by providing the assist for Jarvis’ opener. Nolan has scored in all three of his Upton Park matches thus far but prior to last night had failed to deliver on the road – he has now played a part in four of his side’s seven goals and, currently averaging in excess of five FPL points per game, is making a mockery of his current 6.3 price tag. With four home games in the next six (ARS, SOT, MCI, STO) in addition to a trip to Wigan, Nolan will surely tempt many many Fantasy managers to snap up his services before Sam Allardyce’s side play host to the Gunners next Saturday evening.

Ricardo Vaz Te
A goal and maximum bonus points confirmed his potential as a cut-price forward option across the Fantasy games. Vaz Te has started five of the Hammers’ matches and has either scored, assisted or picked up FPL bonus in four of his outings in the first XI but with Andy Carroll now fit from a hamstring injury, he could fly under plenty radars ahead of the aforementioned run of games.

Matt Jarvis
Handed his first start since Gameweek 2, the former Wolves man vindicated Allardyce’s decision by firing the Hammers ahead with less than three minutes on the clock. Jarvis has struggled for game time of late – the previous two Gameweeks had harvested a couple of second-half sub appearances, with Matt Taylor preferred on the left of the front three instead. As a result, Jarvis has dropped to 0.2% ownership in FPL but bearing in mind he has racked up 130+ points for Wolves in each of the last two seasons, he could prove a decent differential alternative to Nolan over the next few matches if he continues to nail down a regular role.

Andy Carroll
While Fantasy managers are currently spoilt for choice for options up front, Andy Carroll’s return to action will have raised a few eyebrows. The big number nine may face a battle to earn a starting role after Carlton Cole’s admirable shift last night but it seems likely that Carroll will be unleashed on the Arsenal defence this weekend. He is yet to notch for the Hammers but his value to them around the penalty area, winning flick-ons and knocking the ball down for Nolan and Vaz Te, is obvious. Sam Allardyce certainly didn’t fail to notice the impact that Carroll made in just 20 minutes last night…

“His aim was to hold the ball up and be a target for us so we could stop QPR’s pressure and it changed the game back in our favour. The sending off did as well of course. Andy started holding the ball up and we started creating more chances but for some great saves from the goalkeeper we could have won this game by more.”

West Ham Defence
Allardyce is sweating on the fitness of two of his first-choice back-four ahead of the weekend clash against Arsenal. Winston Reid (concussion) and Joey O’Brien (hamstring) were both subbed off within 10 minutes of one another midway through the first period last night, with James Tomkins and George McCartney the replacements. Having conceded a single goal at home so far, the Hammers’ cut-price defenders have afforded strong value options for Fantasy managers – Guy Demel and Jussi Jaaskelainen owners will be hoping any possible absence to the other regulars won’t dim their chances of clean sheet returns over the aforementioned schedule.

The Hammers boss brought us this on the injuries post-match…

“QPR have gone out and spent a lot of money. We’ve come to their place and been the better side. We’ve had to overcome two injuries in the first half. Unfortunately Jussi knocked out Reid and then Joey felt his hamstring. We didn’t look defensively any weaker when George McCartney and James Tomkins came on, which is fantastic for me…We’ll find out how Winston is on Tuesday but he seems OK in the dressing room. The medical team think he might have had a slight concussion but hopefully he will recover in time for Saturday’s game with Arsenal.”

Adel Taarabt
The mercurial Moroccan returned to action for the first time since Gameweek 1 last night. Climbing off the bench, Taarabt served a reminder of his undoubted talents with a thunderous strike to give the hosts a glimmer of hope before fellow-sub Samba Diakite’s dismissal put paid to QPR’s chances of a revival. The problem for Taarabt – and QPR in general – is that Mark Hughes has simply stockpiled so many players he seems to have no idea what his best team is. Only two players, Bobby Zamora and Ji-Sung Park, have started more than four of the side’s six games so far; there is no doubt Taarabt is clearly capable but given his manager’s incessant rotation policy, there doesn’t seem to be a single QPR player we can rely upon.

So judging from the Captain Poll so far everyone reckons Hazard will score much bigger than Mata. Anyone disagree? He seems to be coming back to form & be on FKs..

Mata takes fks and corners from the right, Hazard from the left- from what I saw in last game. But Mata hardly takes on any shots in open play so is much less of a goal threat, his points last week had nothing to do with his form.

I am worried that I have too many players from single team, My team looks little bit narrowed.

    Muslera Unnerstal
Jevans Boateng Gibbs Vidal Thiago Silva
    Pirlo Scwein Santi Gillet Babel
    RVP Ibra Messi
    0.5m in the bank

Ot this is the best team ever 😛 haha

If that team is in budget, it makes a wildcard very tempting.

I think I have fallen into the trap of doing well enough in matchday 1 to convince me that my team doesn't need an overhaul, when in reality it probably does!

I'd possibly move some cash from defence to midfield, but other than that you are set.

hazard is too expensive. With the RB rule defensive mids are more worth this time. I might go with Oscar but that means selling Scwein or Santi or Pirlo all good bets IMO. Also I am not sure about Chelsea winning this. Next 2 aren't that good also

If Zenit weren't in such abysmal form (relatively0 then I'd go with Shirokov, but then they are at home against an equally abysmal Milan side, so I'd probably still suggest Shirokov.

Opinions on my options here please

A Johnson and Fellaini > Bale and Ramirez

    or

A Johnson and Michu > Bale and Ramirez

I can only afford the second one if done before Bale's price rise tonight, but don't really want to get rid of Michu with good fixtures. Technically could do Fellaini and then bring him back for Michu after the next two but seems excessive on the extra transfer.

    Team would be

    Foster, Bego
    Baines, Rafael, Demel, Davies, Gorkks
    Cazorla, Bale, Sterling,
    RVP, Aguero, Berbatov

Annoyed as 0.1 short of Berb > Lambert and A Johnson > Bale.

Any above average offensive team they have met have scored against them- Athletico, Arsenal,Juve, even Reading got 2 somehow. They have only played very poor offensive sides this season(apart from the teams mentioned) if you look at their fixture list, so dont get over excited with their current points total. And Terry should be banned by the time of the Tott fixture which will hurt them even more.

They both have pedigree, but unless Bale AND spurs (since they create chances for him) are fixture proof, id suggest Silva edges it. Not as good a captaincy option though.

                Last seasons totals may disagree.

Heck, many were dismissing Bale a few weeks ago. Swings and roundabouts in this game.

United defense is not the toughest in the league without Vidic. Average defense now.

      Aguero-Jelavic
      Fellaini-Silva
      Michu-Gervinho

Thank. Isn't Aguero better City coverage for their good run of fixtures than Silva?

On Michu - I would like to keep for the next couple and then think about it?

Yup pretty spot on team. Long term, I think Berbatov offers more value for bucks then Suarez. So id consider Berba and then use the extra money to get in Ba (if you can, I have not done the maths tbh)

They don't have great fixtures, but long term picks imo.

Same with Bale, it's a very solid move, but you may have missed the boat. Silva has a great run and underlying stats, ala Bale before he took off and everyone was jumping on the Hazard ship.

Just a though, on a WC it's probably safer to get Bale as you will have more transfers to play with.

You could even ditch Michu as well, for say Nolan and use the extra funds to get in Jelavic instead of Ba (better fixtures, next ship to set sail etc)

Saying that, I have held Michu till now as well, so I can understand why dropping now would seem counterproductive.

Thanks for your input. My rough plan was that Lambert is a good cheap long term pick that will score points as well as freeing up cash.

Also, keep Suarez for his next 2 where he will hopefully continue his burst of form and then switch him probably back to Ba (who I currently have but is coming into a couple of trickier fixtures).

I could afford Berbatov now instead of Lambert (just about) but would cause myself more transfers later on if I want to get RVP back

Dzeko could be a great shout. If Tevez and Aguero start tomorrow I reckon he'll pinch game time from one of them.

Could be a great shout...could be a disaster as well though.

    Jussi Begovic
    Baines Hughes Clyne Ridgewell Cuellar
    Bale Pienaar Hazard Michu Noble
    Tevez RVP Berbatov

    Bank: 0.3

This would be my plan if Tevez starts in the CL tomorrow.
GW7: Tevez to Lambert for a hit.
    GW8: Hazard to Cazorla
    GW9: Michu to Silva
Is this the way to go? Cheers for any responses.

Would I be mad to risk benching HBA this week? I have him and Demba and despite success so far I'm worried about putting two eggs in a basket against United. I'll be shipping Hoilett potentially for Ramirez/Morrison and so they'd be playing ahead of him. Alternatively I could downgrade Hoilett to Sterling and start the Newcastle boys this week?

Interesting. With RVP as well I'm going to be hoping for an absolute goal fest.

On this basis would you move Hoilett for a cheapo for the bench (like Sterling) or get someone else in that price range anyway just to keep a strong squad at the risk of bench points?

There's also the possibility that Hoilett will start as it's an away game, and I don't need him anyway. In that case I probably need to deal with Boyce.

Hazards dip in form and Bales rise is what is tempting me to swap now, plus it will free up a bit of cash for next week although only 0.6 as ive has hazard from day 1.....

I can easily see hazard getting around 9 points from those 3 games based on the last 3 weeks
Bale in current form should be easily looking at 15+?

but then again Hazard "could" be on fire and Bale "could" score a couple of blanks????

I have Bale, Fellaini, and Gerrard in my team, with Silva likely to arrive next week. So if you turn out to be right, I don't there will be an happier man.

But what I actually see is sheer stubbornness as your reason for not having Bale is because he screwed me first. It's not that you don't see him outscoring the other opponents (definitely outscore Gerrard imo), it's more that's you find it hard getting over the first few gw's when you did have him and he did nothing.

Anyways best of luck to those carrying the anti-bale bandwagons 🙂

Silva MIGHT, however that overlooks the issue of captaincy. Silva could get 5-7 points every week without the armband, Bale could do well in only one, with the armband, and be worth more.
