The Gunners show their spirit to come from behind and claim the points at Upton Park, as Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott arrive and Santi Cazorla confirms his class…

On the Up

Olivier Giroud
A first Premier League goal, was capped by the assist for Theo Walcott’s winner. The Frenchman has pedigree in his native country but has yet to convince on these shores. He’ll surely take great confidence from this evening’s performance, however, and Giroud could yet present another enticing option up front.

Santi Cazorla
We kept faith with Cazorla in the Watchlist rankings, settling him in third above his in-form team-mate Gervinho: tonight’s performance demonstrated just why. The Spaniard was, once again, superb and this time delivered on his hugely impressive numbers with a fabulous strike to seal the Arsenal victory.

Theo Walcott
A peripheral figure so far in Arsenal’s season, Walcott’s goal and his assist for Cazola’s effort was a reminder of his potential. Contract negotiations are still ongoing – if Walcott can finally settle, he could yet play a role in our Fantasy seasons. Right now, he’s an option that increases the likelihood of rotation in Wenger’s lineup.

Going Down

The Arsenal Defence
Arsene Wenger brought Per Mertesacker back into his back four, dropping Laurent Koscielny to the bench – a decision likely to have been governed by the threat of Andy Carroll. The Gunners backline have now conceded in the last four and, more significantly, with Bacary Sagna and Wojciech Szczesney set for returns after the international break, there is a great deal of uncertainty in terms of personnel. Thomas Vermaelen appears to be the only assured starter, at least until we know more on Kieran Gibbs’ knock that saw him replaced just before the hour-mark tonight.

Gervinho
Giroud’s returns and Walcott’s showing from the bench signals trouble for owners of the Ivorian. Already he was pushed out wide on the right from the off in this evening’s game, only to be replaced by Walcott after 60 minutes after an ineffectual showing. Gervinho’s starting role is now immediately under increased threat, both as a central attacker and on the flank.

Ricardo Vaz Te
The Hammers striker had been enjoying a buoyant start to the season but this looks to have been derailed this evening by a suspected dislocation of the shoulder. Guy Demel also sustained a knock and his prognosis is likely to be a greater concern for Fantasy managers.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Now to get price rises whilst the break is on. Should have activated this morning once GW6 updated, or tonight before Bale etc rises. I was going to do the same but ok score this week and going to save it for injuries, or bad weather fixtures / dbl gw's etc.

Sahin scored 2 in Europe and got a goal and assist v Norwich, therefore he picked him.

I can't believe he wc and left Hangeland in. If I was to wc a still have a Fulham defender I'd have Riise. Duff is doing ok but it won't last, it seems like an attempt to cut off my Berba pick.

I have noticed that the teams of people who do own Kolarov... it seems as though you guys are happy to bench him whenever he doesn't play... it just means that for the upside of getting his monster haul this week and maybe one or two more over the course season, you have a few downsides: namely, wasting 1.7m on the bench and having no Citeh defensive coverage when he doesn't play and risking the occasional 1pt cameo...

But I'm sure after that performance, you would be happy to take that for the rest of the season?

Bitter, Zep, it just sounds bitter.

I can't imagine anyone having Kol in their team as a season keeper.

        Not bitter at all, Vets...

Just curious as to how these guys see him being used in their teams...

It's something I would consider myself, although now that he has his haul, it's probably not worth it...

aye its a trade off. Your paying 5.7M for high scores but also exclusive use of a bench spot. It means you cant afford to have a ferguson style sub as both your actual sub players will get worked overtime. But Kolarov brings points per game that are unrivalled.

I might consider this when team values are 112+ but not at the start of the season. Fair play to those who manage to make this work.

Don't think Yaya cuts it as city coverage. He's just another decent mid price midfielder who might as well play for anyone. Think there are better alternatives in that bracket eg pienaar, Nolan.

Well, wouldn't hurt to have some City cover with their upcoming fixtures and Yaya seems most reliable, in terms of starts. Would consider Silva if I had enough money.

I don't know if any of you read the newspapers this morning (or online), but Fergie has apparently challenged RVP to beat Ronaldo's record of, what was it... 42 goals in a season?... this season.

Now if he's to do that, then surely he has to play pretty much every game?

Maybe Fergie has given us a sign that RVP is actually pretty much nailed on for every game, apart from Injury - and it'll be Rooney that drops out for the likes of Welbeck more often?

I dont think Rooney will get dropped either. With the defence as it is, United will need goals, and Rooney brings the best out of RVP.

What are Demel owners doing? If it is 4 weeks then he is out for next 2GWs, but my other defenders of Baines, Gibbs, Davies and Nelsen isn't great cover.

Worth using an FT or sticking it out..

not worth using a transfer on a 4.0 defender who will be good once he's fit IMO.

I'm worse off with Baines/Rang/Boyce alongside Nelsen, probably play Rang and Boyce this week and then bring Wilson in for one of them the week after.
