The second international break of the season gives us time to take stock and roll out our weekly regular. As always, we take a look at the top of the Scout League and cast an eye over the market activity as we count down the days until Gameweek 8 is upon us. Only 12 to go, then:

Scout League Standings

There’s no move at the top of the Scout league, where T.I. racked up 64 points over the weekend. Captain Eden Hazard brought home 18 points, while Santi Cazorla, Nikica Jelavic and Leighton Baines were all amongst the goals. Asmir Begovic chipped in with nine points between the sticks as T.I. moved to 516 points for the season and third place overall.

Ivo V moves up into second position, having returned 67 points in Gameweek 7. He also decided to captain Hazard, while Wayne Routledge and Cazorla produced 21 points between them in a four-man midfield. At the back, both Rafael and William Gallas earned clean sheets to take Ivo’s total to 498 points.

In third spot is Iyad Zahlan after a 46 point haul last time out. Baines, Cazorla, Hazard and Michu grabbed the goals and though his decision to captain Luis Suarez failed to pay off, he still sits in 42nd place in the overall rankings.

Damon Randall bullets into fourth position after producing an incredible 87 points – a tally that was inside the top 2,000 for Gameweek 7. He had one of those weeks where almost everyone chipped produced the goods – only Marouane Fellaini returned less than four points for Damon. A backline of Branislav Ivanovic, Rafael and Baines, with Begovic in goal, combined for 33 points, while the decision to captain Fernando Torres brought in 24 points alone. Damon has climbed on to 57th overall, sitting on 494 points so far.

Bob Booker completes the top five. James Morrison and Steve Pienaar were his differentials over the other featured managers – the midfield duo picked up 20 points between them, while Ivanovic and Baines were the standouts at the back.

For the contributors, Facer leads the way after returning 66 points in Gameweek 7. Baines and Begovic were joined by William Gallas at the back, while Cazorla, Michu, Hazard and Jelavic were all amongst the goals. The Fantasy Football Scout league remains at number one but our lead has been cut down to just 1.8 points over Last Word Listeners.

Market Trends

Wayne Routledge is the most popular asset since the weekend’s games. The Swansea winger has already attracted almost 26,000 new owners after a 13 point haul against Reading on Saturday, with his 5.1 price clearly appealing. Although there remains concerns over a regular role, as Michael Laudrup rotates him with Nathan Dyer and Pablo Hernandez, Routledge has made a strong case for a starting berth at home to Wigan next time out – he has averaged 7.5 points per game at the Liberty Stadium so far.

Santi Cazorla is next in line – no surprise, really, given his masterclass at West Ham on Saturday evening. The Arsenal midfielder has been snapped up by over 23,000 Fantasy managers and now has a trip to Norwich on his agenda – bearing in mind the Canaries have shipped nine goals in their last two, Cazorla can expect significant investment before the fortnight’s break is over.

Investment at the back is looking like a tactic for many. Aleksandar Kolarov, Rafael and Branislav Ivanovic have all been transferred into more than 21,000 teams as defences are reshaped. While the latter two look relatively safe for starts, the Kolarov bandwagon looks far from stable – Saturday was his first appearance since Gameweek 3.

Demba Ba and Leighton Baines continue to pick up investment, with 17,000 and 15,000 drafting in the duo. Chelsea pair Juan Mata and Fernando Torres make their way into a combined 25,000 new teams, while Jussi Jaaskelainen, Asmir Begovic, Carl Jenkinson, James Morrison, Gervinho and Luis Suarez have all persuaded 10,000+ Fantasy managers to throw investment their way.

In terms of transfers out, faith in Swansea’s backline is starting to diminish. Michel Vorm, Angel Rangel and Ashley Williams have been shipped out by a combined 24,000 teams after the Welsh club’s 2-2 home draw with Reading. Michael Laudrup’s side has now conceded two or more goals in each of the last five Gameweeks. In midfield, over 24,000 have bid their farewells to Nathan Dyer and Michu, with a likely move to Wayne Routledge freeing up some budget.

Intriguingly, Manchester City’s assets are also being sold off ahead of a strong run of fixtures. Vincent Kompany, Yaya Toure and Carlos Tevez lead the way in their respective classifications – while Tevez’s 19,000 transfers out can be understood after he failed to score for the fourth Gameweek in a row, the former duo (with a combined 31,000 sales) are pretty much nailed-on when fit and offer a consistency of starts that is rare amongst Roberto Mancini’s side. Granted, Kompany missed out against Sunderland with a calf problem but if he is available for the trip to West Brom, there seems no doubt he will slot straight back into the first XI.

Marouane Fellaini is also accumulating plenty of trades out. With no attacking returns in his last two, the Everton man has been offloaded by 15,000+ Fantasy managers, despite a strong run of fixtures to follow for David Moyes’ outfit.

The return of Wayne Rooney seems to be having an effect on Robin Van Persie owners. The Dutchman was outscored by Rooney in their first league start together and with the former currently 1.8 cheaper, more than 9,000 have shipped out Van Persie since last Saturday’s deadline. Shinji Kagawa has also proved unpopular – in excess of 13,000 have parted company with the former Dortmund man after he was subbed off early once again at the weekend.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

He's so hard to predict but will be one of the top scoring mids by the end of the year.

I got Bale in for Hazard in GW6 purely because I had 2 FTs and didn't want to burn one. Turns out Bale scored more away vs United (16) than in one of the easiest fixtures Spurs will have all season this week (3). Just wished I didn't captain him this week!

              "He looked a bit tired."

I'm not bloody surprised after he played 90 minutes last week and another 90 minutes midweek in the CL. And because Wenger said this, Gervinho is going to be dropped?!! FFS.

I'll accept that his place his under threat, but just as under threat as Giroud's and Walcott's, and even on some GW's Podolski too.

Sure, if you haven't got him in then probably best to avoid, but no reason to get rid.

Definite keeper with the fixtures they have. Even if he's back in midfield you have to back him against Derby. I mean Norwich.

I'd certainly make selling Ramirez a priority if I were you. I love the Crouch pick by the way.

        Not think they'll play:
        Walcott - Giroud - Podolski
        Next game?
Ramirez is a priority if we get any injury news but would be a good pick if healthy.

There is certainly a risk for that but I'm hoping we'll understand a bit more after the internationals etc. If we truly think Walcott is in line for a start I think it's a valid reason to sell Gervinho.

          About Ramirez: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/19871733

Ramirez could also be set for a lengthy spell.

"Nathaniel has a dead leg and Gaston has a similar thing, but his is quite serious," Adkins told BBC Radio Solent.
"His muscle swelled up on Thursday in training as there was nowhere for the blood to go so there was a lot of pressure building up on the thigh. He had to go to hospital for a couple of days to relieve the pressure."

This on Gervinho/Walcott doesn't sound good.

That Ramirez injury is weird - I can't remember anything like that to think that it will be resolved quickly or not. Need facer for this one. If he's out then that makes things easier.

I think that'll be it. Walcott's done enough to earn his start. And Gervinho might just have played his way out of one. But you usually get pretty decent selection information about AFC so wait and see nearer the time.

The other argument is, if Walcott keeps making an impact off the bench - keeping bringing him on from there.

          Chamberlain complicates things even further.

I think the one thing you can say is that Podolski, Giroud and Cazorla will start. As I say, at this stage my guess is the other attacker would be Walcott.

You can't say with any confidence at all - certainly not after the international break. Wenger could easily rest Podolski who has played every game, I believe.

You're right, things could change over the break. But if nothing were to change between now and then that's what I think it would be. Resting Podolski would be a luxury, but I think that's more likely to happen in the CL and the Cups. This group are still forming partnerships and I would expect them to be sent out together again.

I'm always open for a punt on Walcott. Might have a look if I can fit him in if he seems set to start and fit etc. One of my favourite fantasy players, because he's a) good for a huge score on his day and b) most people don't bother with him.

Get the cheapest playing mid you can find - I think it's Puncheon at present - and just bench him each week. Make sure you have 4 strong mids though. Bale, Mata, Cazorla and Pienaar will do the job.

As fwds tend to grab the boni, play 3 upfront each week.

This strategy generally works until Jan when injuries/bad weather/rotation take their toll.

How is that a valid arguement if he has other defenders to be autosubbed in? You can even live with the odd 1pt sub appearance with his attacking threat. And 1 point might be more than the returns from Reading, Southampton, QPR and Norwich defenders, anyway.

If Kolarov was 6.5m then sure, probably a bit too pricey, but not at 5.7m.

current plan is to do after inters
    Hazard to Mata
    Lambert to Berbs

However I have Guthrie and worried he will not get game time. Options
    (a) Transfer in sterling for a total 4pt hit, however would have to make transfers before any price changes.
    (b) Transfer in another sub 4.8 option (again 4pt hit)
    (c) Transfer out Guthrie and keep Lambert (no hit)
    (d) Keep Guthrie transferring a sub for hit is crazy.

Would be value at 7m if Newcastle went back to 4-3-3. Was considering him before the start of the season... would walk into Man Utd's midfield.

Pardew should just drop Cisse and get it over and done with! Cisse and Ba just can't play together up top as a pairing (and as a Ba owner I don't want to see him shifted out left!).

I am in bit of a fix.Have done ok till now, leading my mini-league. But currently out of my 15, two are injured and tow don't play so essentially I have to do with 11 players only. Plus my defence is pants.

    Current team is

    Howard (Fed)

    Baines/Hangeland/Clark (Demel/Tierney)

    Cazorla/Mata/Pienaar/Michu (Guthrie)

    Ba/RVP/Suarez

Have done 2 transfers for the coming GW for a 4 pt hit to get Cazorla and Mata in.

Should I just throw in the towel and do a WC?If so my team could look like

    Begovic/ Foster

    Baines/ Vertonghen/ Clark/ Hughes/ Nelson

    Cazorla/ Mata/ Pienaar/ Morrison/ Routledge

    Ba/ Aguero/ Berba

Alternatively I can just do 4 transfers over GWs 9 and 10 to get in Begovic, Berba, Morrison and Aguero. and forget about the rest of the changes. It will not improve my bench strength though. The advantage of this strategy is that I can give RvP 1-2 more weeks to prove himself.

    Waiting for your esteemed suggestions.

Next 2 short-term pick: Nolan by a mile
Season-long pick - for me, Ramirez

But it's kind of punty, and he's got a weird injury.

Just had two of the worst GW's of my life and dropped 500k places. Really need to improve, but my defence is a mess, can't convince myself to get rid of RVP, played WC extremely poorly, and now I want to quit. But I will strive on. How does this look for an 8 point hit.

For a -4. Hit, what do yas reckon

It'll leave my team looking like this

    Foster. ( Jaaskerlainen)
    Jenkinson. Rafael. Baines. (Demel) (Hangeland)
    Cazorla. Bale. Silva. Pienaar (Sterling)

Exact same situation as ya. Did Haz to Caz and now planning Fletch to Berba for a hit. Haz to Caz move should be a no brainer. Fancy scoring and assist points from Caz against Norwich away. 😀

As nailed as a player can possibly be, but he's far away from fitness still and would need match fitness etc. So in reality he's not nailed on for a long time still, probably

Cheers, I guess the change will be Michu to Morrison after internationals passed, will free up some cash for upgrading Defoe/Suraez or Ba

Long way off IMO. He will need match fitness so expect sub appearances and Capital One cup run outs before he can be starter. Once he is fit I expect him to be a starter along with Arteta and Cazorla in the three-man midfield.

            Hamley's.

And if you go drinking do it somewhere interesting like Camden, Clerkenwell, Stoke Newington, Highbury, Kentish Town - rather than Covent Garden and Leicester Square which are tourist traps.

Personally, Gibbs, I'd say, once he's fit. Sagna is tempting but I'd rather go for the price differences.
