The injury worries continue for Brendan Rodgers, with Andre Wisdom and Fabio Borini the latest casualties. Marouane Fellaini discusses his knee injury, Steven Taylor expects to be fit for the Tyne-Wear derby and Oscar bags a brace for Brazil in a friendly win over Iraq.

Brendan Rodgers has been left reeling after two of his players withdrew from their respective national squads. Andre Wisdom has had to pull out of the England U21 squad due to a shoulder problem, while Fabio Borini is believed to have broken a bone in his foot during training with Italy. While it’s yet uncertain as to the severity of either injury, Wisdom’s potential absence leaves Liverpool struggling for options at full-back; Jose Enrique and Martin Kelly are both sidelined and while Jamie Carragher or Daniel Agger could possibly fill in at right-back and left-back respectively, Rodgers may turn to youngster Jack Robinson. The Liverpool boss sang the left-back’s praises after he also earned a call-up to the England Under 21 squad; Glen Johnson could switch to the other flank if this transpires. Borini’s absence could further cement a starting berth for another youngster, Suso. Coming in at 5.0 in FPL and classified as a forward, he has also started the last two and looks the likeliest to benefit in Borini’s absence.

Marouane Fellaini issued an update on his injury situation yesterday. After pulling out of the Belgian squad with a problem picked up during Everton’s draw at Wigan last weekend, Fellaini spoke to the club’s official website yesterday:

“As you have probably seen and heard I am currently suffering from a knee injury. Fortunately it is not too serious but I will have to miss the two games with Belgium. I am hoping to be back playing for Everton as soon as possible. I am extremely disappointed and I now have to rest in order to get back to full fitness so I can help the team with some important games coming up.”

From a Fantasy perspective, the non-committal answer keeps us firmly in the dark. One of the most popular players in FPL Fellaini is seeing huge numbers of sales on the back a possible absence – with David Moyes notoriously secretive when it comes to player injuries, it could take another seven days until next Friday’s Everton press conference before we get a definitive answer.

Steven Taylor has spoken of his hopes to be fit for the Tyne-Wear derby with Sunderland in Gameweek 8. The Newcastle centre-half revealed yesterday:

“The main thing for me is being 100 per cent fit for the Sunderland game and I didn’t want to prepare for that match carrying any little niggles or anything like that. The medical staff have been spot on – like they always are – and hopefully taking that little bit of extra time on the injury will enable me to be fit for the game at the Stadium of Light. I’m due back in full training next Tuesday, a full five days before the derby, and until then I’ll keep on top of my fitness and conditioning work while a lot of the lads are away on international duty.”

Since limping out of the Gameweek 6 trip to Reading, Taylor has failed to feature for the Magpies. He missed the 3-0 home defeat by United last weekend, joining Fabricio Coloccini and Tim Krul on the sidelines as injuries hit hard for the hosts but with the Sunderland match precluding a favourable run of fixtures, Alan Pardew’s side could be primed for investment. Priced at 5.0 in FPL, Taylor – providing he proves his fitness – looks a decent punt ahead of a schedule that pits him against (WBA, WHM, SWA) in addition to a trip to Southampton from Gameweeks 9-13.

The internationals got underway last night, with Oscar bagging a brace for Brazil in a 6-0 stroll over Iraq. The midfielder was joined by David Luiz and Ramires in the starting XI; Luiz was given the full 90 minutes, while the former two were both subbed off just after the 80th minute mark. Spurs’ Sandro was the man to replace Ramires with eight minutes left on the clock.

      Berba Suarez Tevez imo.
Ba is the top scoring striker I know, but he plays upfront in a 2 and realistically either of them could get the golas. Berba is a safer bet

      Great team

Good point & thanks, but the main reason i chose Ba over Berbatov was because of their fixtures,

For fulham after the next two Gwks they have Everton Arsenal Sunderland Stoke Chelsea Spurs and Newcastle!

although he is quality i really can't see him outscoring Ba who has ridiculously easy fixtures..

Do you think Silva would be enough city coverage though? especially with their decent fixtures?

i just wish mancini would start tevez and aguero every game!! Tevez would be a no-brainer

Well it's a bit so so. I would get Aguero if I could afford it. Silva is getting in form and probably Man City will follow. Then you do need more coverage. Rotation is just so awful ATM.

Just posted this on the old page!

    Any scouts on?

Love the MF goal threat article. Thanks.
I would very much like to see a similar article on DEF attacking threat – the Demel vs. Cuellar vs Rangel (etc.) equation is central to our success, but we tend not to make these decisions based on data.
Anyone else like to see something along these lines?

I have Fellaini, Berbatov, Clyne and Demel currently on the sick list but wouldn't be surprised to see most, if not all, back playing next weekend. No need to panic. Seems like people are getting rid a bit sharpish. Really don't get those dumping Hazard and RVP. Sometimes it's not about fixtures and form and just about the fact they are class and will produce.

        Interesting...........

It was thought at the time that Carroll would spend the entire campaign at the Boleyn Ground after West Ham claimed that a season-long loan spell had been agreed.

"The 23-year-old has moved from Liverpool for the remainder of the 2012/13 Barclays Premier League campaign, with the Hammers having the option to complete a permanent deal for an undisclosed fee next summer," read an item on whufc.com last Thursday.

However that is NOT the case according to the Liverpool manager, who told the BBC's Conor McNamara after today's defeat by the Gunners that the terms of the loan agreement mean he can take the striker back to Anfield in January.

"Rodgers tells me he has option of recalling Andy Carroll in January," said McNamara via Twitter this afternoon. "He only let him go, because he thought another forward was coming in."

Rodgers: When I came to this club...people mentioned the name Andy Carroll...but what I said to those people was this...

Look there...there's are 35million striker...but who was my finger pointed at? Carroll?

    No...

I was pointing at young Suso

This kid may not have the talent...he may never have played a competitive match in his short career...but I looked at this young lad and I said to myself...Am I gonna get 110% from this kid? Am I gonna get the hunger...the drive...?

    The answer...

    was no.

Very similar to mine. Agree you should get baines but 3 everton will be overkill if you get pienaar as well. I'm thinking about mata, even with his fixtures, altough that still would give you enough money for riise> baines. Also take nelsen out, he'll lose his place soon.

😆 Glad you liked it! That wasn't me though, it was Reedy's handiwork.

Too much money in defence but I guess thats what you meant by taking a gamble, also no RVP, Aguero, Tevez is risky

Was thinking of just tryin something different to my league opponents ... Covered for 2 to 3 weeks .... Then will save two transfers and get in a city player ...

    At a crossroad here.

Without going into excessive details, I can either invest in midfield or defense. I'm thinking of completing my defensive block with Rafa in time for the nice fixtures (GW10+). That will give me a nice block of Baines, Rafa and Zabaleta, with spare cash to upgrade Zaba to Lescott if needs be.

    Other option is midfield strengthening.

What is drawing me to the defensive route, is that as the season goes on I think the better sides tighten up.

    Thoughts?

(P.s, my midfield and attack is no sham at the moment)

      Morning Brian. 🙂
You've got a definite point there, and I'm planning on upgrading my defense too, looks good for a plan if you can get a decent front 8 too, that is the way to go for the remainder of the season I think.

That's not a crossroad. It's a T junction. If you including the option of staying as you are it's a crossroad...

Baines + Kebe + Sterling in for Fellaini + Demel + Dyer? (-4) leaves me with
    Mignolet
    Baines Rafael Hangeland
    Bale Cazorla Pienaar Sterling
    Rvp Tevez Ba

    Federici Kebe Clyne Gorkks
