Nigeria, Mali and Morocco are amongst the qualifiers for next January’s African Cup of Nations, whilst crowd trouble causes Senegal’s home game against Ivory Coast to be abandoned with the visitors 6-2 up on aggregate.

Senegal Ivory Coast (Match abandoned with score standing at 0-2 (2-6 aggregate))
Papiss Cisse and Demba Ba started for the hosts – the latter’s owners will be relieved to hear his substitution early in the second half was purely for tactical reasons. Although Newcastle are yet to confirm, it appears the pair will be available for Newcastle next January after the Senegal’s official news agency released the following statement:

“The match was halted and the Lions of Senegal will not qualify for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations. Senegal will now incur a sanction from the Confederation of African Football (CAF).”

Ivory Coast named four Premier League players in their starting line. Yaya and Kolo Toure, Cheick Tiote and Gervinho were all part of the Elephants’ first XI, while Wigan’s Arouna Kone and West Ham’s Guy Demel were unused subs. It was a former Fantasy favourite, Didier Drogba, who was the main protagonist, though. The ex-Chelsea man’s brace bagged a brace before the match was abandoned after missiles were launched onto the pitch and fires broke out in the stands.

Nigeria 6 Liberia 1
Chelsea duo Victor Moses and John Obi Mikel both lasted the 90 minutes as the hosts booked their place in the African Cup of Nations in January. Moses had a hand in three of the Super Eagles’ goals – his free-kick was nodded home by Efe Ambrose within 60 seconds before the former Wigan winger then scored twice. Mikel also found the net, slotting home a spot-kick as Nigeria clinched qualification with an 8-3 aggregate victory.

Botswana 1 Mali 4
West Ham’s Modibo Maiga was amongst the scorers as the visitors clinched their place in next January’s tournament. Fulham’s Mahamadou Diarra and QPR midfielder Samba Diakite could also be set to travel to South Africa.

Morocco 4 Mozambique 0
The home side overcame a two-goal first-leg deficit to book their spot in January’s tournament – amongst their ranks are Adel Taarabt, Villa’s Karim El Ahmadi, Liverpool’s Oussama Assaidi and Marouane Chamakh. Although the absence of the latter pair will have minimal impact for their respective clubs come January, El Ahmadi has started every game for Villa this season, while Taarabt has started to produce the goods for QPR, notching in each of his last two league appearances after regaining a starting role in Mark Hughes’ side.

In Other News…
Theo Walcott has been ruled out of England’s game with Poland on Tuesday evening. The Arsenal winger is sidelined with a chest injury sustained in a clash with the San Marino keeper in the opening minutes of Friday’s 5-0 win. The news immediately casts doubts over his availability for Arsenal’s Gameweek 8 trip to Norwich – climbing off the bench to grab a goal and assist against West Ham last time round, Walcott had staked a claim for a starting role at Carrow Road but a possible absence could see Gervinho continue on the right, affording Olivier Giroud a chance to lead the line once again.

Chris Brunt has revealed he is on the road to recovery from a hamstring injury.

“I’m not too sure what the overall timescale on the injury is, but it’s coming along. It wasn’t as bad as we thought at first because it felt like a nasty one when I got it at Villa Park, so in that sense it isn’t too serious. The problem is that it’s happened a couple of times now, so this time I want to make absolutely sure it’s right before I come back because it’s no use to anybody doing two or three weeks at a time and then getting another injury.”

The West Brom midfielder limped off against Villa with just 39 minutes on the clock in Gameweek 6 and missed out in the following week’s home triumph over QPR. While the Baggies continue to flourish under Steve Clarke, Brunt has been a peripheral figure – injuries have afforded him just two starts this term, with James Morrison proving to be the Hawthorns’ star turn in midfield. Both players started the season priced at 6.0 in FPL and while Brunt’s cost has understandably dropped, Morrison is yet to rise despite returning 40 points so far – just one less than Santi Cazorla, for example.

    Foster | Federici
    Ivanovic | Demel | Clyne | Cuellar | Zabaleta
    Bale | Maloney | Gervinho | Hazard | Noble
    Ba | Tevez | Torres

    1 FT
    bank: 1.3 mln

I want to get Begovic for Federici, but there's no point doing it now, as STO plays away against ManU. So I'll do that transfer before GW9.

But for now - as I have only 1 FT, I am ready to do another extra transfer for 4 points hit.

Players I consider to get rid of: Zabaleta, Noble, Hazard, Tevez, Torres
Players I consider to get in: Rafael, Riise, Morrison, Watlers, Berbatov, Jelavic

Could you guys advice sth ? I'll probably get rid of one of Hazard/Torres, as I have 3 CHE players and their upcoming fixtures is not too tempting to have all of them.

I want to get rid of one of Hazard / Torres as having them both + Ivanovic, who is also great Chelsea offensive covereage, I perceive as a little too much, especially when I think about their run of fixtures not looking great...

        Demel / Gorkss / Nelsen / Banies / Hughes

        Morrison / Hazard / Guthrie / Cazorla / Michu

        Jelavic / RVP / Suarez

plan is to do Demel ➡ Wilson and Hazard ➡ Bale this week

The Defenders is the only position where the best value players are the expensive ones. So by loading up with baines, Rafa, Ivan/Cole and Kolarov I can play 4-3-3 (admittedly Kolarov makes that 3-4-3 by not playing)

So the last two mids will only get a little bit of playing time in my team so I would like to spend nothing on them. Little money on the bench is always my policy.

Apologies for this repost, got some sound advice on previous page but would appreciate a thorough critiquing.

    My wildcard team:

    Jask, Beg
    Baines, Rafael, Riise, Wilson, Nelson/Gorks
    Cazorla, Bale, Pienaar, Walters, Sterling
    RVP, Ba, Berbatov

Mid looks a little weak, but Walters is my punt. I really like his home fixtures til Jan and rotates with Sterling if needs be.

The other option is to do Rafael and Riise -> Cuellar and Hughes, allowing me to upgrade Walters/Pienaar to Silva.

That's my thinking, went for a very cheap defence for first few weeks and it really hurt me. Seems defenders can get you points too.

Riise is a bit of a punt, but easy to swap to Sagna etc. Hopefully Smalling doesn't impact on Rafael much cause after next 3 weeks Uniteds fixtures are superb.

Any idea if Smalling will take any/all of Rafa's game time?

Wouldn't be able to upgrade Pienaar to Silva without further downgrades (such as Rafa to cheapie). Only have 1mil spare in bank.

Dial Square, re: RVP, you're right. I know. I'm just a little in love with him and can't bring myself to replace with Aguero who is threatened with more rotation. Its an easy swap if Aguero starts to make himself absolutely necessary, but I just can't see myself doing it.

I'm rotating all my outfield players (except baines, bale and santi) and so I will expect my 5th mid to play some games, no room for bench sitters in my strategy. Hence britton is not an option.

Puncheon at 4.4. Wih Rameriz injured Puncheon will play over 60mins each game and he is due a goal or two.

Puncheon's delivery looked impressive in the early games. I was surprised to see him removed, did he just make way for Ramirez then?

If Ramirez is his only competition and is out for a long time then he could be a proposition. Can see Lambert getting on the end of a few crosses.

Looking at their respective game time, it doesn't look like Rameriz impacted directly on Puncheon. Its the 0 mins at home to Wigan which is the worry if you're expecting your 5th mid to play.

That was just a change of approach by Adkins that didnt work.Puncheon is guaranteed top start every game but he will start most and should get assists and goals at some point. He is a cheap gamble if ever you need your fifth mid to come in. With Ramirez out he will get more game time as he offers creativity which we lack.

Was looking at Saylor and Simpsons comparative attacking stats over last couple seasons and there does not really seem to be much in it. I reckon Simpson's assist threat actually puts him ahead Saylor.

That said the consensus on here seems to be that Saylor is the better attacking option. What does everyone know that I'm missing?

Alreet valor. I think they are both good options to be honest. Salyor should score a few headers, but santon will score and assist a few as well. He is going to be a cracking player. If I had to pick, I would probably go for santon as saylor appears to be a bit injury prone. Both are well worth the 0.2m more than simpson.

Not at all nailed on. Reid got injured after 22 minutes against QPR and was taken off for Tomkins. O' Brien got injured in the same game after 34 minutes and was taken off for MC Cartney. I know this as I had Zamora and was hoping he'd do something good against a makeshift defence. He didn't

Not on here much, but any advice would be appreciated.

I bit the bullet and sold RVP so I could use funds elsewhere. Bought Tevez and Suarez, the latter set as captain for a one week punt.

Will use next weeks FT for upgrading defence.

My question to ye, if ye would be so kind, is Who to bench out of my mildfield? Bale would have the hardest fixture me thinks.

    Foster (Davis)

    Rafael, Demel, Cuellar (McAuley)

Pienaar, Ben Arfa, Santi Cazorla, Yaya Toure, Bale

    Tevez, Suarez, Ba

    Thanks in advance guys

      Jelavic

at some point Cisse will start scoring

Jelavic has better stats and playing for more offensive team and will get more chanse to score

i like everton fixures better than newcastles as well

    Guys

Haven't been on here in weeks but just found myself watching some egg chasers so have returned to try and maintain some sanity.

This is the unsuperest sunday of the season....

I need to pick your expert brains, what's happening with Puncheon? Is he likely to play most matches? Was he injured week 6? Thanks in advance

Puncheon blows very hot and cold.

If you want a guaranteed starter in that bracket then you should be looking at Sterling or Maloney

SCS is your man on Saints stuff.

But I really rate Puncheon, seems Adkins likes to sub him off,I can't believe it's a fitness issue so he must be trying to share out the gametime. Which cost him dear against Man U and very nearly did against Fulham.

Puncheon started to give the ball away in the second half vs Fulham and is very lazy when tired.

Taking Lambert off vs Fulham and Man United is the problem most Saints fans have with Adkins. We were only 1 goal to the good in both games when he made the switch
