In the next 24-hours we hope to go live with user’s custom statistics tables in the members area. If you’ve missed our previous posts about this, it’s a feature that we’re pretty excited about and one that really adds unique flexibility to the stats available to our Members.

In a nutshell, you can now create your own tables of stats for teams and players, using hundreds of stats available. You can save them to be retrieved every week for form analysis, you can even share them with the community and view other members’ creations, voting for the ones you find most useful.

We’ll be going live with a number of new tables that we’ve created and shared up but being able to make your own is the real beauty of this feature. From now on, for example, if you’re in a discussion on the boards and want to prove a point, you can create a table, share it up and post the url link for other members to see. Nice.

To find out how to do this and for a full rundown on this feature, view the little movie below…

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Does anyone else think it's absurd seeing teams with 4 heavy hitting mids? I know it seems like security to have all the big guns and it looks like it would reap rewards...but it's vastly overspending in one area.

    Say you had this:

    Bale Santi Mata Silva (4.5/5.0)

That's approx. 42m to 42.5m spent on midfield alone.

I can understand you can beef up your midfield without RVP and there are budget strikers you could own to make this possible...but is it not overkill?

What do you mean by overkill?
It appears to be a valid strategy at the moment IMO. Only problem for me is that if I do go that route I'll want RVP back soonish and it will take at least one, maybe 2 hits to get there.

This is prob the only reason I can see not to do it. If RVP becomes a must own it would take a hit to get him in but I don't think its enough of a problem to not do it. Well if you saved 2 FT it could be done for free

Yeah maybe I was being a bit hyperbolic but a figure like 42m just seems mad for only one area of your team. I can't say I wouldn't be happy though with that sort of midfield...I just think at this moment in the season it's a lot to invest that much in your midfield. Maybe later on in the season when you've got more cash to burn from gaining value on different players. There doesn't seem to be a lot of value to be earned out of owning players that are too expensive to rise much in short spaces of time...if you get me.

If you have the funds I don't see whats wrong with it. If not for Pienaar doing so well for me I'd prob go for the MF you posted. It would cost me 41.2 to build and still allow me to Have:

      Baines, Ivanovic, Hughes, Cuellar, Davies

      Silva, Bale, Mata, Santi, Sterling

      Tevez, Berba, Ba

hmmm maybe I should build it lol

Mata has better stats than Oscar and has shown he can do well in the PL. For now I'd rather him over Oscar if u can afford it. Rotation is the only thing making me even consider cutting tevez. If he goes it wouldn't be to Aguero as he faces rotation also. Not sure who I'd want over him right now apart from RVP who I can't have.

The captaincy thing is another issue...with all those expensive mids you'd be inclined to captain one...but getting it right most weeks would be tough and I'm not sure I'd have enough faith captaining most of them...

All the 4 mids that you put up there..I'm not sure I would be entirely confident captaining any of them.
Lets face it, Bale is explosive but highly inconsistent.
Mata,Santi,Silva will all offer 5-6 points on a consistent basis but wont get you double figure point hauls too often imo.

Yeah. I mean, its not like RVP gets you 2 pt games and 1 pt cameos.

I have RVP but the guy 50 pts ahead of me got rid of him weeks ago. Problem is that people on here are scared to be different. A look at some of the best performing teams this year thus far reveals that you can succeed without RVP but still people on here feel the need to cling to their RVP safety blanket for dear life and not let go.

If I was wildcarding today then downgrading RVP and needing up my mids would be exactly what I'd do. Plenty of good captain choices every week there for people brave enough to dare to use their balls and dare to be different.

Sure, I've no problem with that argument. However RVP is there to be that safe captain and a lot of times this season that will work imo. There's no doubt going without RVP so far has not been a bad idea. The thought in the back of my mind however is that right now in this current week we've seen a sway towards looking at the heavy hitters and less emphasis on the heavy hitting strikers like RVP for instance. But if he scores well this week the thinking will likely shift...it will always ebb and flow but captaincy is a very important side of this game and getting it wrong can suck.

I agree. In order for the tactic to pay off all the 9.5ish players need to get 180/190 points over the season - and not all 4 of them will do it. I'd prefer to have 2 or maybe 3 of them and swap and change due to fixtures. No guarantee that this will work, of course - but has a better upside than having all 4.

I just think given the nature of FPL, there is no way you'd be hanging onto them all for the duration of the season. Every week there are new reasons for chopping and changing. And if the likes of Aguero and RVP suddenly appear must haves the gameplan will quickly alter to get these guys in.

TM gets it. Over the course of the season a couple of these players (at least) will prove not to be value for money - but for a short space of time they will be excellent value for money. By having all 4 means you will be assured of bringing in the good haul, but also the lean spell - and the player who can, for example, swap between Bale and Hazard at the correct time will always win.

If someone knew when players would start running hot they would win FPL by 1000 points. No one is saying that having these 4 all season is a good idea. Just that at the point in the season it seems like a very good option. As you know things change quickly and you have to be adaptable and you'll be left behind.

I think you usually get what you pay for when it comes to midfielders and 4 big hitters could be a good tactic, assuming of course that there are enough on form, good value big hitters.

I think it all comes down to alternatives. You could also still afford a good attack with Ba, Berba + £8-9m (for example). However, if there's a budget midfielder who is performing as well/better than a big hitting mid, you'd obviously go that way.

I wouldn't go with 4 big hitters because it doesn't allow as much flexibility up front should any elite striker hit form. 3 is enough at this stage I think!

I agree, the lack of flexibility could prove costly. I also think you are relying on the likes of Mata, Silva and Cazorla for their assist potential with the bonus of goals every now and again...Their price can blind you into thinking they are somehow these mega points scorers but it's important to look at where they generally get their points from.

A key issue for me is whether a few Silva assists is worth more than a few Tevez goals considering they are at the same price...and goals mean BPs...so there is possibly more value in Tevez for example.

Good point about the "goals = bonus" as I had not really thougt along those lines with regards to having Silva/Mata who will maily be assist machines than big goal scorers.

But then again looking at Bale/Silva last year, Bale scored 10 goals to Silva's 6 but still only got the same amount of BPS (21) all season. Silva only assisted 3 more goals in the season too to get 17 assists to Bale's 14.

With 4 big hitters in the midfield you miss out on the mid-price action, Pienaar is still hauling in the points good and before his good run of fixtures end I'm sure another candidate will arise.

I disagree Martin as next week my team will be:

      Begovic
      Baines / Vermaelen / Vertonghen
      Silva / Bale / Cazorla / Mata
      Jelavic / Berbatov / Lambert

      Foster / Sterling / Nelsen / Gorkss

I am happy enough without RVP/Aguero as I honestly don't see them being "must have's". Yes they will have explosive scores some weeks but I feel my squad should get fairly consistent points to counter act that. The only problem is there isn't too much flexibility without as you say "chopping and changing".

What happens when Mata/Silva/Cazorla go on a run of not picking up assists? Their goal-threat is more of a bonus so you won't be able to rely on that.

Also, what happens if/when Aguero/Rooney/RVP become must-haves? A 4 point hit or worse would be needed.

If they go on a poor run then they are expensive enough that I can swap to any other player. In my opinion those three stikers will not become "must haves" for me. I can see why some people would class them has must haves but I currently don't see that at the minute. Also with a free transfer each week, having 2 FT would easily let me get virtually any player without a hit.

We do the best we can with the info available to us and right now the signs point to 3/4 heavies in MF. 1 hit to bring in a heavy isn't the end of the world if it comes to that.

I agree with this. The thing about the heavy hitting midfielders in question is that IMO they tend to be a little less prone to purple patches of form than the strikers and can deliver on a more consistent basis, therefore its easier to know when is the best time to own them.

Good post, Martin... I'm a bit late to the party, but this is something I'm inclined to agree with...

I think that right now, the midfield options look enticing purely because RVP (and maybe Aguero) hasn't been firing, but one good haul against Stoke, and the fickle masses will be queuing up to profess their love for RVP, adamant that he his the way forward in their fantasy forays...

I'm not gonna bother with this one... I'd prefer to strike a balance with 3 BHMs and RVP, thank you very much....

      Looks great,

got RVP Aguero Ba myself, think that's a nice, long term combination.

      And also thinking of changing
      Hazard-Fellaini-Pienaar-Michu-Stirling
      to Bale-Carzola-Pienaar-Sterling-Routledge

Friedel - Federici (basically no gk)
    Baines - Ivanovic - Hangeland - Cuellar - Rangel
    Hazard - Kacaniklic - Caz - Maloney - Michu
    Ba - Fletcher - Torres

    2FT + 0.8m in bank

    A) get a good GK combo
    B) Get Fletcher out
    C) something else?

not sure, currently he is in. I was watching MOTD the other day and he looks really sharp, fit, good touch. He could really hurt you if you don;t have him, so it's whether the money saved and spent elsewhere build you a big enough 'buffer' so that those times he goes mental don;t hurt you in the long run

Seems to me the best value forward at the moment is Crouch. Price, form, fixtures, pedigree, nailed on in a decent team, etc. Yet mentioned rarely, incredibly unfashionable and overshadowed by Walters whose form has been patchy for months, stretching back to last season.

Am I barking up the wrong tree?

I might be alone here, but I'd play HBA over Sterling pretty much every week. You got Sterling as a playing cheap mid to sub in when required. HBA is one of NEW's best attacking players, is possibly on pens and has a local derby this week, which often yield goals. Yes, Sterling has REA this week, but he is still not nailed on imo, and has yet to score a goal.

Depends on your strategy. IMO, he's not 100% nailed on to start, and he hasn't scored a league goal yet (I don't think). Liverpool goals are more likely to involve Suarez & Gerrard, whereas Newc goals are more likely to involve Ba, Cisse & HBA imo.

Not a huge amount in it, I just think HBA is a far better player and has the added benefit of perhaps being on pens.

    1 demel home to soton

      Definitely Nay.

Just do Fletcher -> Berb imo, and start the below. Personally I don't like having such strong players as HBA on the bench, but given your tactic of no big hitters up front you're always going to have someone decent on the bench.

      foster
      baines, rafa, gibbs
      michu, bale, cazorla, pienaar
      ba, berb, lambert

      bench: bego, hba, cuellar, saylor

not a fan of kolorov i see. tbh i was more settled on him. i'm just unsure whether berb is better than fletcher given upcoming fixtures... the next two are tempting and i can always bench him if i have to

but you'd play lambert ahead of hba this week?

Lambert vs HBA is a close one. Edging towards Lambert as I see SUN being a better team defensively at home than WHU. Not much in it though.

As for Kolarov - as well as him being a big rotation risk imo, you already have 3 excellent defenders, and with how the BPs system works, it's almost always better to go 3-4-3 where possible.

Nah, 'super' sub. Not looking forward to it actually, we're so badly out of form it's ridiculous. Hoping Saylor and Colo are back to give us a bit of confidence.

No, you should sell him for Ameobi 😉

I honestly think I'd play Sterling (although I'm a naturally pessimistic Newcastle fan).

HBA is more integral to our attack than Sterling is to Liverpool's but I could easily see Liverpool notching 4 or 5 and Newcastle drawing a blank.

Just one man's opinion though 🙂

Any news on the injury status of Newcastles defence?

Am thinking Fletcher captain at home if the Newcastle defence is still weakened

Saylor, Coloccini and Krul all with a chance of making returns. No definite news yet though.

Yup, I heard all were 80/20 to make it. I'd take 2 of the 3.

I think I'd rather Krul and Colo based on Harps performance vs Man Utd, but I do think if S Taylor is fit, he'll be soooo fired up for it.

    triple ARS? surely some mistake?

    Mig (Bego)
    Baines, Rafa, Sagna (Wilson, Gorkss)
    Cazorla, Bale, Pienaar, Nolan (Sterling)
    Aguero, Giroud, Berba

1.0m in the bank for a panic buying.

just lacking some match fitness apparently.

been on my radar for a while so i thought i'd get him in on a WC to save me using an FT on him in the coming weeks.

Sagna's a poor pick for me...why not buy a player that might get you 6 points this week then get him later.

very valid point and i do have a reasoning (see above).

        WHO IS IT??

Why not start with 2 of Cuellar/Wilson/Hughes and keep the cash in the bank?
