Plenty of Premier League stars were in action right across the globe yesterday, giving Fantasy managers much to fret about. While David Silva’s owners wait anxiously for news on a possible hamstring problem, England’s game with Poland this afternoon is set to cause further apprehension:

Croatia 2 Wales 0
Gareth Bale, Chris Gunter, Ashley Williams, Ben Davies, David Vaughan and Steve Morison all started for the visitors. Morison made way for Reading’s Simon Church just after the hour mark, while fellow Royal Hal Robson-Kanu also came off the bench with eight minutes remaining. Nikica Jelavic was an unused sub for Croatia.

Czech Republic 0 Bulgaria 0
There was only one Premier League player in action in this one, as Chelsea’s Petr Cech played the full 90 minutes between the sticks for the hosts.

Cyprus 1 Norway 3
Fulham duo Brede Hangeland and John Arne Riise both started for the visitors. Hangeland scored for the second game in a row this past week – the Cottagers centre-half also grabbed the equaliser in a 1-1 draw in Switzerland last Friday.

Bosnia 3 Lithuania 0
Asmir Begovic and Edin Dzeko played the full 90 minutes for the hosts. The City forward produced a goal and assist, while Begovic returns to Stoke having kept a clean sheet in both his nation’s games over the international break.

Macedonia 1 Serbia 0
City pair Aleksandar Kolarov and Matija Nastasic were both handed a 90 minute run out for the away side. Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic saw action with 22 minutes remaining for Serbia.

Hungary 3 Turkey 1
West Brom’s Zoltan Gera squared up to Liverpool’s Nuri Sahin here. Both played the 90 minutes, with Gera emerging victorious after firing home his side’s third from the spot.Reading’s Jem Karacan was an unused sub for the away side.

Iceland 0 Switzerland 2
A north London pair were on opposite sides for this clash. Gylfi Sigurdsson managed the full game for the hosts, as did John Djourou for Switzerland.

Slovakia 0 Greece 1
Only one Premier League player started this match. Martin Skrtel began for the hosts, though Fulham’s Giorgos Karagounis was introduced for a 24 minute second-half sub appearance.

Belgium 2 Scotland 0
A total of 16 Premier League players featured, with seven taking part for the hosts. Jan Vertonghen, Thomas Vermaelen, Moussa Dembele, Vincent Kompany and Christian Benteke all started, with the latter two both finding the net. Eden Hazard replaced Dembele at half-time and produced the assist for Kompany’s goal, while Kevin Mirallas was given a run-out in the second half, with 55 minutes gone. Sunderland’s Simon Mignolet was an unused sub.

James Morrison, Steven Fletcher, Danny Fox, Gary Caldwell, Darren Fletcher, Alan Hutton, Shaun Maloney and James McArthur started for Craig Levein’s side, while Jamie Mackie introduced at the break. Morrison and Steven Fletcher were also subbed off on 79 and 76 minutes respectively, while Charlie Adam and Russell Martin were unused subs.

Italy 3 Denmark 1
Mario Balotelli recovered from the flu bug that kept him out of last week’s win in Armenia to take his place in Italy’s starting XI. The City forward grabbed a goal and assist and was subbed off on 89 minutes, while Daniel Agger played the full match for the visitors.

Germany 4 Sweden 4
Arsenal pair Per Mertesacker and Lukas Podolski both featured for the hosts. The former managed 90 minutes and also scored his side’s third just before the break, while Podolski was afforded a three minute sub appearance towards the end of the match.

Sweden fielded three Premier League players. Jonas Olsson and Seb Larsson both started and Alex Kacaniklic came on at half-time. The Fulham man provided an assist for the Swedes third in a sensational comeback – they were 4-0 down with just 35 minutes left to play.

Spain 1 France 1
David Silva was subbed off after just 13 minutes with a possible hamstring injury for the hosts, although it’s also being reported as a possible ankle problem – Fantasy managers are eagerly awaiting any injury updates after many chose to draft him in over the last couple of weeks. Santi Cazorla replaced the City playmaker, while Fernando Torres also featured; he came on for Andres Iniesta on 75 minutes. Pepe Reina was an unused sub but there are unconfirmed reports that he may have picked up a muscle problem during the half-time kickabout – any possible injury only adds to the worries at Liverpool just now.

Hugo Lloris, Patrice Evra, Laurent Koscielny and Yohan Cabaye all started for Les Bleus, with the latter fit again after missing out against Japan on Friday with a stomach problem. Lloris saved a Cesc Fabregas penalty, while another north London protagonist, Olivier Giroud, climbed off the bench with just three minutes left to grab a last-gasp equaliser. Gael Clichy was an unused sub for Didier Deschamps’ side.

Latvia 2 Liechtenstein 0
Just the one Premier League player in action in this game. Reading’s Kaspars Gorkss played 90 minutes at centre-half for the victorious hosts.

Romania 1 Holland 4
Having been rested for last week’s win over Andorra, Robin Van Persie returned to the Dutch starting XI last night with a goal last night. Van Persie lasted 90 minutes, as did Ron Vlaar and Jonny Heitinga. Gabriel Tamas didn’t have the best of games for the hosts – the West Brom defender conceded a penalty and resultantly picked up a yellow card.

Portugal 1 Northern Ireland 1
Nani played the full 90 minutes for the hosts and supplied the assist for Helder Postiga’s equaliser. The outstanding Jonny Evans played the entire game for the away side, as did Fulham pair Chris Baird and Aaron Hughes.

Faroe Islands 1 Republic of Ireland 4
Kieren Westwood, John O’Shea, Seamus Coleman, Marc Wilson, James McCarthy, Jon Walters and Robbie Brady were amongst the starters for the away side, while Shane Long was given the final ten minutes. Wilson returned a goal and assist, while fellow Potter Walters also found the net for Giovanni Trapattoni’s side. Stephen Kelly and Ciaran Clark were both unused subs.

Bolivia 4 Uruguay 1
Luis Suarez played the full 90 minutes and grabbed Uruguay’s consolation goal, while Liverpool team mate Sebastian Coates was an unused sub.

Venezuela 1 Ecuador 1
United’s Antonio Valencia managed the full 90 minutes for the visitors, showing no side effects from his recent ankle injury.

Chile 1 Argentina 2
City pair Pablo Zabaleta and Sergio Aguero faced off against Wigan’s Jean Beausejour and West Brom’s Gonzalo Jara. Aguero lasted 86 minutes before being subbed off, while the other three played the full 90.

United States 3 Guatemala 1
Clint Dempsey, Geoff Cameron and Tim Howard all managed 90 minutes for the hosts. Dempsey had a hand in all three of his nation’s goals; he bagged a brace and provided an assist as the US came from behind. Maurice Edu climbed off the bench for the US with 12 minutes remaining.

Costa Rica 7 Guyana 0
Just the one Premier League player was in action. Everton’s Bryan Oviedo lasted the full 90 in a stroll for the hosts.

Mexico 2 El Salvador 0
United’s Javier Hernandez was afforded 30 minutes as a second-half substitute and grabbed Mexico’s second with five minutes remaining.

Honduras 8 Canada 1
Wigan’s Maynor Figueroa lasted the full 90 for the hosts in an emphatic win. Norwich’s Simeon Jackson started for the visitors but was subbed off later in the game.

Iran 1 South Korea 0
Arsenal fringe player Park Chu-Young played the full match for the defeated visitors.

Iraq 1 Australia 2
Fulham’s Mark Schwarzer and Villa’s Brett Holman played from start to finish for the visitors. Former Everton star Tim Cahill was amongst the goals as Australia sealed a late win.

Japan 0 Brazil 4
United’s Shinji Kagawa played the full 90 for Japan, while Southampton’s Maya Yoshida also started the match. Yoshida was subbed off with a minute remaining, while Ryo Miyaichi was afforded a game time late on from the bench. Chelsea trio David Luiz, Ramires and Oscar all started for Brazil. While Luis lasted 90 minutes, the latter two were subbed off as the game moved into injury time, with Spurs’ Sandro replacing Ramires in central midfield.

if wigan go on for a good run of results, boys will be among points. that was the case in the end of last season (wigan were unbeatable for 9 or so games). this season so far, they've won 1 game i think thus boys not scoring too many fpl points.

Outside of Wilson/Gorkks i would guess Santon. But that is under the requsite that Colo and Saylor stay fit. Clean sheets are available and is a good attacker overlapping HBA.

    Michu Fellaini Cazorla Bale (Guthrie)

    RvP Suarez Lambert

Got 2 frees, plan was Fella & Lambert to Nolan & Berba.

I'm now thinking I want HBA and Tevez for next week so trying to squeeze them in somehow, maybe downgrading Fellaini & Michu by next week. Any ideas for my 2 frees this week?

I know it's like choosing between a punch in the face and a football in the groin but who would be your pick until January out of:

    a) Gorkks
    b) Nelsen
    c) McCartney

I guess WHU have the most stable looking defence but they also have the worst fixtures, it's quite an ugly dilemma

Just wondering if the people looking to get Giroud are aware that it took him a bit more than 8 shots per goal in the french league. Usually those kind of take a while to improve (if they ever do)
Or are you convinced he will get over 5 shots per game to make him worth owning?

I understand the 1 gw punt if you are wildcarding next week. But to waste 2 transfers on that, I would not see the point. As even if he plays ok, he will always be rotated for some games.

I'm getting him in on my WC this week, as a 2 week minimum punt. I may keep him if he looks like he's worth it. Otherwise Ba will come in. I can only see him being rotated if he loses form, but a goal last week, and another last week, so his tail will be up and he should be full of confidence. Playing against Norwich and QPR is enough for me.

Fair enough. This is a move I can totally understand, since you only waste 1 transfer if he fails. And he could turn out to be a brilliant option with his low ownership.

Yeah, I doubt I would get him in and then get rid of him soon after. It's not worth the 2 transfers, like you say, for the obvious risk it is.

That is a bit different, it is comparing 2 players. This is a bit extreme, for example, Giroud came on late yesterday and scored. He didn't need 8 chances to score.

I understand but Pienaar is an example of an on-form player too. Guess it got messy because they were both in the same team.

How is he showing form??? If you take 10 shots and get 1 goal- I think that is really bad for a PL striker. He had like 5 clear cut chances and failed to take advantage. Everyone was super hype about Suarez too for his second season just because he was getting the chances- we all know how that has turned out.

But some strikers are actually better at carving out chances or getting shots in. It's not necessarily a sign that he's going to miss loads of chances every game. Perhaps he's getting more chances than your average striker because he's strong in the air for instance. aka more headers/chances that others would not have.

Across all competitions he is leading all other Arsenal players in assists. Scored against West Ham, and scored against Spain. That, to me, is gaining form.

You can look at shots on target in the box which correlate almost 90% to fantasy points. Also rule of averages works in long term. I tried just watching football last season- will try only stats this season. Will tell you in the end how it works out. To look at the start it took me until GW30 or smthn to get where I am now, but maybe I have been lucky this season.

The fact that his shots per game total is high is a good sign imo...ok it suggests he might not be unbelievably clincal but he looks to be always getting chances which is a plus sign for me.

If you are expecting him to keep up 5-7 shots per game as vs WHM and starting all games. Than he could be a brilliant option. Im just asking what people are expecting from him. Looks like just some might be over excited after last nights goal.

Well you looked at his stats in the French League and saw all those shots like I did. I think he will continue to have that level of chances if he starts for Arsenal consistently. As I said above...a lot of those might have been headers and he is a bit of a poacher. He can get on the end of crosses and shows good intuition. I think he will do very well this season.

Only time will tell, I personally think he will be rotated with Gervinho. Since he is quite slow- Gervinho will be used against smaller defenders. But Giroud used vs bigger defenses- like Stoke, West Ham

His not a clinical striker. Ligue 1 stats were 170 total shots for 70 shots on target. That works out to be a 30% conversion rate based on shots on target.

Average is about 34% conversion rate for most strikers and 39% conversion rate for elite.

Saying that, I still think its a worth while 2-3 week punt. Giroud has so far had 90+ mins on all away game, so expect him to start.

Yep, city cover is necessary with the fixtures in mind. That said, City have some big CL games coming up, so rotation is due. You could avoid, i guess.
Also, since you're on WC, Gibbs/Sagna if fit instead of Raf. Maybe get rid of Michu after this week.

Right that's it now, back to work!!

I will leave you with some interesting facts:

It costs more to buy a new car today in the United States than it cost Christopher Columbus to equip and undertake three voyages to and from the New World.

One-fourth of the world's population lives on less than $200 a year.

Ninety million people survive on less than $75 a year.

The sentence "the quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog" uses every letter in the English language.

The word racecar and kayak are the same whether they are read left to right or right to left.

TYPEWRITER, is the longest word that can be made using the letters on only one row of the keyboard.

Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia is the fear of long words.

A snail can sleep for 3 years.

Did you know you share your birthday with at least 9 million other people in the world.

The average human eats 8 spiders in their lifetime at night. THIS HAS TO BE FALSE!!!!

More people are killed by donkeys annually than are killed in plane crashes.

Women blink nearly twice as much as men.

The continents names all end with the same letter with which they start.

Shakespeare invented the word "assassination" and "bump."

According to tests made at the Institute for the Study of Animal Problems in Washington, D.C., dogs and cats, like people, are either right-handed or left-handed --- that is, they favor either their right or left paws.

A giraffe can go without water longer than a camel can.

Blue whales weigh as much as 30 elephants and are as long as 3 Greyhound buses.

Crocodiles and alligators are surprisingly fast on land. Although they are rapid, they are not agile; so if you ever find yourself chased by one, run in a zigzag line. You'll lose him or her every time.

Birds do not sleep in their nests. They may occasionally nap in them, but they actually sleep in other places.

Most elephants weigh less than the tongue of the blue whale.

Butterflies taste with their hind feet.

Only female mosquitoes bite. WOMEN!! PFFFT!

Mosquitoes are attracted to the color blue twice as much as to any other color.

If one places a tiny amount of liquor on a scorpion, it will instantly go mad and sting itself to death.

Every night, wasps bite into the stem of a plant, lock their mandibles (jaws) into position, stretch out at right angles to the stem, and, with legs dangling, fall asleep.

Ants stretch when they wake up. They also appear to yawn in a very human manner before taking up the tasks of the day.

Bees have 5 eyes. There are 3 small eyes on the top of a bee's head and 2 larger ones in front.

The outdoor temperature can be estimated to within several degrees by timing the chirps of a cricket. It is done this way: count the number of chirps in a 15-second period, and add 37 to the total. The result will be very close to the actual Fahrenheit temperature. This formula, however, only works in warm weather. (Try it!)

Still have Graham. Want to upgrade to Berba but short .1 and will cost a hit. Normally wouldn't be worried in a home game vs Wigan but Graham has been abysmal and worse being replaced by Moore very early.

    So should I:

    A) take the hit to upgrade to Berba (hopefully he is fit to play)
    B) play against Wigan and hope he keeps his start. Also suffering another inevitable price decline if i keep.

Appreciate any advice on offer. Thanks.
