There’s nothing more satisfying for a Fantasy manager than anticipating a bandwagon before the masses make their move. While Demba Ba’s goals capture the headlines and Fantasy suitors, and Papiss Cisse looks shorn of the confidence that made him such a lethal acquisition in the latter part of last season, Hatem Ben Arfa has provided a steady source of points for his Fantasy owners thus far:

The Frenchman’s brilliant form towards the tail end of 2011/12 hinted at his potential. Having finally convinced Alan Pardew of his worth to the Newcastle first XI, Ben Arfa’s displays on the right of a 4-3-3 saw a surge in ownership, with expectations high going into the new campaign. While Pardew’s return to a 4-4-2 has clearly brought the best out of Ba, Ben Arfa’s contribution – particularly at home – cannot be overlooked.

So far, Ben Arfa has had a hand in three of the four goals Newcastle have scored in front of their own fans. More encouragingly, his returns have been produced over three of their four matches in front of the Toon Army – goals against Spurs and Villa was followed by a crucial assist in the 1-0 win over Norwich in Gameweek 5, highlighting his consistency, rather than one big performance followed by a few blanks. United may have nullified his threat last time round but so far Ben Arfa has produced 29 points over his four home games in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) – with seven bonus points also accrued, that equates to an average of over seven points per home clash.

Away from St James’ Park, he’s been a disappointment. Trips to Chelsea and Everton perhaps understandably failed to produce any returns but a Gameweek 6 visit to Reading was a real let down for Ben Arfa’s owners, with Ba’s Madejski brace taking the plaudits instead. To a degree, this has allowed Ben Arfa to stay out of the limelight – 21,000 FPL managers shipped him out before the United game, while nearly 14,000 have ditched the Frenchman’s services prior to this weekend’s Tyne-Wear derby at the Stadium of Light. What better way to banish his away day blues, however, than to get one over Sunderland this coming Sunday afternoon?

After the Black Cats showdown, Newcastle look primed for investment. The subsequent seven Gameweeks afford Pardew’s men the perfect opportunity to rack up the points and with four potentially prosperous home games (WBA, WHM, SWA, WIG) in addition to a trip to Southampton, Ben Arfa – currently priced at 7.9 in FPL and a mere 6.2 in the Sky Sports game –looks well positioned to be a major Fantasy asset over the next few fixtures as the Magpies look to put the United defeat behind them.

    Who should I bench out of this lot?

    Michu (Wig H)
    Cazorla (Nor A)
    Hazard (Spurs A)
    Barfa (Sun A)
    Sahin (Rea H)
    Berba (AVL H)
    Tevez (WBA A)
    Fletch (New H)

    Right now I have Sahin on the bench but Barfa tend to not do very well away from home. Then again, it's one of the most important games of the season so maybe he can score some FPL points? 🙂

          i would be satisfied if he brings me at least 18pts, and i think he can. it's Norwich and i am pretty confident. More confident than going for RVP against a solid Stoke, where he might be subbed off early to give room to other strikers. heck, i already had my luck whwn captaining a midfielder like Bale last season, and i don't see why it cannot happen again this time around.

    0.4 in the bank and 2 FT’s

    Foster, Begovic
    Gallas, Hughes, Demel, S Taylor , Baines
    Bale, Gerrard, Pienaar, Fellaini, B.Arfa
    Podolski, Tevez, Ba

    My Plan -: This gw: Fellaini->Cazorla && Tevez->Berbatov
    Next gw: Gerrard->(4.5-6.9) priced mid && Podolski->Aguero

    Problem is simple: Don't wanna take out Tevez this week, and I doubt I will be able to take out Podolski next week as he faces QPR at home

    Should I just forget about Cazorla and Berb....You can't have everyone after all.

    Any suggestions/ideas?

        I was thinking of the same, but Gerrard has Reading(H), how can I drop someone for that match. I can do that move for next week though.

        Even I think it's the case of grass is greener on the other side, really have a strong feeling that Tevez might do well this week.

      Just one week of having a strong front 8 has persuaded me that I can't enjoy this game without having a straightforward bench decision.

      If I had that team I'd drop Fellaini for Sterling/Kebe and maybe Podolski > Jelavic or wait a week and do Tevez > Kun.

      hi Pratik.. how unlucky of you with your sub points last week!

      imho, u should continue with your plan to get Caz & Berb with the 2 FTs.. and then get rid of Pod in GW10 for Jelly/Fletch or even Crouch (great fixtures ahead), or get rid of either Ba/HBA coz i don't think you need both of them. well, just my opinion, i really think you know how to play FPL better than i do.

        I would have played Foster over Begovic 99 times out of 100 with their fixtures last week. Foster had an easy fixture, Begovic had Liverpool, it was hardly a choice. So really no regrets there.

        Pienaar, I admit, I was swayed by a few here (not blaming them btw).....They said Newcastle attack is great, United defence is bad, and it points to a goalscoring fest. I was planning to bench both Ba, and B'Arfa but ultimately didn't to my huge regret.

        Playing better than you? You might read into stats as much as you want, but the single most important factor in the game remains luck. Stats and playing the fixtures, can help you overcome casual FPL players. The only thing that separates you with other regular members on this site is plain old vanilla luck.

        Let's see what I do, but the transfers are gonna roll by tonight.

    Thanks to all your advice on here over the break, I finally made my 2 FT move last night:

    Fellaini/Guthrie to Morrison/Kebe + 0.7

    Team is now

    Jaaskalainen - Begovic
    Baines - Gibbs - Demel - Demel - Clyne
    Hazard - Cazorla - Michu - Morrison - Kebe
    Van Persie - Tevez - Fletcher

    Some injury problems still but I should have 11 this GW. Resisted the temptation to ditch Tevez although I may regret not bringing in Bale for Fellaini. Was a very difficult choice this week. Looking forward, I hope to downgrade Hazard, maybe bring in Berb or Ba for Tevez and upgrade the DEF (Kompany, Riise?).

    Love this game 😉

            don't get kolorov! you don't have a strong enough defender to play whenever kolorov doesn't. my defense will be baines, rafa, gibbs, saylor so i've got plenty of solid coverage whenever he doesn't play. but like i said you dont have good enough coverage unless you're happy playing davies and gorkss a lot

    Ok I have a question. If I decide to bring in Walters over Nolan or Morrison is it really worth -4 this week when I will be benching Walters, or should I just go -8 next week and do Ramirez, Michu and Johnson to Lallana, Bale and Walters?

    (of course if Ramirez is only out for 1 week then I will keep him and forget Lallana)

        I tend to agree. I don't see the point in taking -4 to bench a player. I did a couple of weeks ago, but that was only to faclitate Hazard. I may yet get Morrison over Lallana anyway

    Hello guys,

    Foster - Green
    Evans - Rangel - Baines - Clark - Demel
    Cazorla - Hazard - Michu - Pienaar - Sterling
    Tevez - RVP - Fletcher

    Have 2 FT. I'm thinking of:
    Fletcher -> Berba
    RVP -> Giroud OR Ba

    *(Also allows me to do Michu -> Bale in GW 9)

    Giroud is more of a differential to me since nobody in my ML has him and his next few fixtures are stunning, but Ba could easily outscore him mid term - i'm also a bit worried with no Newcastle cover at all.

    So, Giroud or Ba, some comments would be nice.

    Thnx!

    Need some inputs guys. Would you rather

    a) Stick with Cole for 3 games (@TOT, MUN, @SWA) -> Rafael.
    & McAuley -> Shawcross later on GW 12
    - Total of 0 pts red. Little potential of CS on next 3 game

    b) Change to Rafael now (-4 pts) (STK, @CHE, ARS)
    & McAuley -> Shawcross later on GW 12
    - Total of -4 pts, but potential CS on 1 out of next 3 game

    c) Change to Gibbs now (-4pts) for (@NOR, QPR) -> Shawcross (-4pts) @NOR.
    Get Rafael for McAuley later on GW 12
    -Total of -8pts, but potential CS on all next 3 game

    Basically I will be getting Shawcross and Rafael sooner or later.

    Hi to all, i'm not new here, but this is my first post 🙂
    I want to do some bold moves, because i had a bad luck in last few gw with benching some players (rafael two times grrr), so what are your thoughts please?

    current team is:

    Hart / Cerny

    Cole / Rangel / Rafael / Baines / McAuley

    Fellaini / Michu / Duff / HBA / El Ahmadi

    Torres / Ba / Tevez

    have 2 FT, and want to cathc up in my ML, so this are interesting transfer

    Hart > Schwarzer
    Fellaini > Gerhvino (i hate my self for not taking pienaar insted of Fellaini two gw ago, and now i want Walcott, but he is down, but if i buy santi, i'm out of money, and thats no good for future plans like Michu > Walters, and Rangel > Kolarov, or maybe Ivanovic or Begovic)
    El Ahmadi > Nolan
    Tevez > Giroud

    -8 points, so what, Nolan will take care for that

    Now team will look like this for gw 9

    Schwarzer

    Baines / Rafael / Rangel

    Gervinho / Nolan / Duff / Michu

    Torres / Ba / Giroud

    What you think?!
