There’s nothing more satisfying for a Fantasy manager than anticipating a bandwagon before the masses make their move. While Demba Ba’s goals capture the headlines and Fantasy suitors, and Papiss Cisse looks shorn of the confidence that made him such a lethal acquisition in the latter part of last season, Hatem Ben Arfa has provided a steady source of points for his Fantasy owners thus far:

The Frenchman’s brilliant form towards the tail end of 2011/12 hinted at his potential. Having finally convinced Alan Pardew of his worth to the Newcastle first XI, Ben Arfa’s displays on the right of a 4-3-3 saw a surge in ownership, with expectations high going into the new campaign. While Pardew’s return to a 4-4-2 has clearly brought the best out of Ba, Ben Arfa’s contribution – particularly at home – cannot be overlooked.

So far, Ben Arfa has had a hand in three of the four goals Newcastle have scored in front of their own fans. More encouragingly, his returns have been produced over three of their four matches in front of the Toon Army – goals against Spurs and Villa was followed by a crucial assist in the 1-0 win over Norwich in Gameweek 5, highlighting his consistency, rather than one big performance followed by a few blanks. United may have nullified his threat last time round but so far Ben Arfa has produced 29 points over his four home games in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) – with seven bonus points also accrued, that equates to an average of over seven points per home clash.

Away from St James’ Park, he’s been a disappointment. Trips to Chelsea and Everton perhaps understandably failed to produce any returns but a Gameweek 6 visit to Reading was a real let down for Ben Arfa’s owners, with Ba’s Madejski brace taking the plaudits instead. To a degree, this has allowed Ben Arfa to stay out of the limelight – 21,000 FPL managers shipped him out before the United game, while nearly 14,000 have ditched the Frenchman’s services prior to this weekend’s Tyne-Wear derby at the Stadium of Light. What better way to banish his away day blues, however, than to get one over Sunderland this coming Sunday afternoon?

After the Black Cats showdown, Newcastle look primed for investment. The subsequent seven Gameweeks afford Pardew’s men the perfect opportunity to rack up the points and with four potentially prosperous home games (WBA, WHM, SWA, WIG) in addition to a trip to Southampton, Ben Arfa – currently priced at 7.9 in FPL and a mere 6.2 in the Sky Sports game –looks well positioned to be a major Fantasy asset over the next few fixtures as the Magpies look to put the United defeat behind them.

Would it be crazy to sell RVP this week?

Stoke have looked pretty solid in every game this season, including Chelsea away.

I really want somebody who at least has some experience. Sherwood and Shearer are both great for the fans but it's too big a risk for me. Solskjaer would be my choice but if he's not interested then i'd opt for an experienced manager like Holloway or even Big Mick. Not exciting perhaps but prudent

Overlooked Aguero somehow thinking it was Tevez, well then that's the way to go for you if you really want HBA. I'm personally going with Michu and Kebe, though too much value on the bench if I bench Michu worries me a little. Solid team there if you can stick Kebe in.

Yeah, thanks, though I'm afraid of choking on the rank already. 😕

Attitude / Personality / etc. You can tolerate it as a manager if the player has talent like Balotelli. Drenthe it becomes more difficult. Still, he's young and will find someone in Europe [Holland most likely] willing to take the risk.

    Evening lads,

Not posted for a few days.. There's some nice fixtures this weekend for the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool, but is anyone concerned that the big players won't show up after the international games? I'd feel much happier giving Suarez the armband, for example, if he'd been in Liverpool all week.

A further factor, albeit less so, is that the 'weaker' clubs have fewer players away on international duty, and as such have had more time to prepare and be fresher. I wouldn't be totally surprised if Norwich make a fight of it at Carrow Road, and Reading do at Anfield.

I sometimes think that these are the gameweeks (and CL gameweeks), where the really good fantasy players make the right call. Perhaps we can expect fireworks in the Mackems - Geordie derby, or a quiet, professional 2-0 win by United over Stoke? No doubt, I'll be looking back and rueing my Suarez(c)...

Cheers CP... exactly my thoughts! Thing is, most PL sides these days have full internationals in most positions within their teams, so whose to know which players will not perform?

The odds say Suarez(c) s a good punt, and really playing the odds is all you can do.

On paper he is, but he is human, played last game in Bolivia, the worst place on the planet you would want to play, a lot of travelling, fatigue is a distinct possibility, if not a certainty. Thats not to say he won't perform, however will make it more difficult. Which is the point you are getting at I think.

Me, but my blu ray drive is broken. It's been collecting dust for months. I'm pissed because I wanted to play Uncharted 3. Just don't feel like repairing it right now. Going to school and I really only play FIFA when I get a break from studying.

I'm happy with Bale. I've never had Hazard. Not sure if I would spend a transfer in your case cause they both could produce. Get Bale if you're going to keep him long term. I'm sure there are bigger issues you can deal with right now though. You're lucky if not lol

I can give myself bigger issues by losing RVP next week, and rocking a Ba, Berbatov, Suarez front line. Would then consider Kolarov/Verm/Sagna upgrade at the back, and a few more big hitters in midfield. So tempting!

Possibly. But you have to be prepared for that and ride out the 1pt bench appearances. As per the advice above, make sure you have 3 nailed on defenders playing each week and it could pay off handsomely.

Flippant comment. Kolarov had a ridiculous PPG last season (with rotation) and is likely to this year.

Just takes a different approach to owning him.

Yeah, I know, but the majority are chasing his points from last week. I have a soft spot for Kolarov, but only on the proviso that your defensive backup is adequate
