John Terry has confirmed he will not be appealing against the four-match ban imposed by the FA for racially abusing Anton Ferdinand last October. The Chelsea skipper had until 6pm this evening to make his decision but released the following statement earlier this morning:

“I want to take this opportunity to apologise to everyone for the language I used in the game. Although I’m disappointed with the FA judgment, I accept that the language I used, regardless of the context, is not acceptable on the football field or indeed in any walk of life. As I stated in the criminal case, with the benefit of hindsight my language was clearly not an appropriate reaction to the situation for someone in my position. My response was below the level expected by Chelsea Football Club, and by me, and it will not happen again.”

Terry’s suspension will now take place with immediate effect. He is set to miss three league games – this weekend’s trip to Spurs, a home clash with United and the visit to Swansea – in addition to a Capital One Cup tie against United on October 31.

Domestically, he will next be available on November 11 for Liverpool’s visit to the Bridge, though Terry can participate in the Champions League away and home clashes against Shakhtar Donetsk on October 23 and November 7 respectively.

The news is likely to boost Gary Cahill’s first-team chances over the short-term, at least. The former Bolton man has started just one of the last four league matches, whereas David Luiz has featured in the first XI in the last five for Roberto Di Matteo’s side – a run of matches which has seen the Blues concede just twice.

Di Matteo also has the option of moving Branislav Ivanovic to the centre and handing new boy Cesar Azpilicueta a start at right-back; the summer signing climbed off the bench against Norwich in Gameweek 7 for his league debut. Whether Di Matteo will give Azpilicueta his first start against Spurs or United is perhaps debatable, though; the smart money seems to be on Cahill slotting in alongside Luiz as Chelsea look to maintain their position at the top of the position in their skipper’s absence.

So after having 2 weeks to think about it this will be the team for GW 8

    GK: Foster
    DEF: Gibbs, Hangeland, Baines
MID: Cazorla (vc), Michu, Mata, Pienaar
    FWD: Fletcher, Berbatov, RVP (c)
    Bench: Begovic, McCartney, Clyne, Guthrie

Will bring in Berba just before the deadline to be sure he is playing and if he isn't I'll bring in Ba. Then next week I'll bring in whoever out of Berba and Ba I didn't bring in the previous week for Fletcher. So basically my front line will eventually be Ba, RVP and Berb (hopefully for the whole season)

Will take an 8 point hit this week but I feel even with the hit the team should get 60+

Well I don't really know what any of your transfers are/were, but an 8 point hit seems rash... and planning on having the same forward line for a whole season is lunacy...

I jumped the gun on Hazard > Mata last week (was planning for that to be my only transfer) but then Silva got injured so I might as well use that to my advantage by downgrading him (Pienaar) then upgrade my forwards (Pog > Berb/Ba)

I don't plan to have the same forwards for the whole season but it would be nice obviously becoz that would mean they would be scoring consistently

Disagree. Not nessecary at the minute, but has to be done some time between now and Christmas. We're reaching that time when you need to start thinking about getting 8 attacking players who are garunteed starters.

Hello’s. Here are a couple tables looking at the top 20 attacking threats for both the left wing and right wing:

    http://members.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/public-stats-tables/view/239/ (Left Wing Threat)
    http://members.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/public-stats-tables/view/240/ (Right Wing Threat)

This can be used in conjunction with the defending team stats (http://members.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/team-stats/defending/), in particular the chances conceded for each team from the right/left flank, to highlight the main threats for the opposing team for any given fixture.

A few I have managed to highlight for fixtures this week:

QPR have conceded 33 chances (46% of their total, 2nd most overall out of the 20 teams) on their right flank, meaning left full back/midfielder combo of Baines and Pienaar (ranked 1st and 2nd in the Left Wing Threat table) could have a field day. For comparison QPR only conceded 19 chances on their left flank and a typical proportion is about 34% of their total chances conceded.

Swansea's stats prove that Ben Davies seems to be a weak spot in their defence having conceded 28 chances (49%, 2nd most) from the left side as opposed to just 12 on the right. So Boyce for Wigan looks a good bet, with 21 crosses and 6 chances created from RM. Wigan also are conceding lots of chances at LB (27 chances, 42%, 3rd most) so Rangel also looks a threat with 18 crosses and 6 chances created.

Bit of a punt, but Southampton have conceded the most chances in the league from their right flank (35, 44%) and for their opponents West Ham their biggest threat from that position according to the stats is Mark Noble. He has managed 37 crosses from the left side (3rd most in the league - hopefully Carroll makes a difference!) and has created 6 chances, so he perhaps has a chance of coming good this week against the leakiest defence in the league.

All I've noticed for now, note that the tables are based on data from the past 6 gameweeks. Will be interesting to see how many points they all get this week 🙂

Great tables and analysis but there is a fly in the ointment with the theories on QPR and Swansea. The stats for crosses/chances conceded are not reversed stats are always from an attacking perspective - when QPR have 33 chances conceded that is 33 conceded to the right flank, not on their right flank. And for Swansea, it's 28 chances conceded to the left flank not on their left side. Therefore it's QPR's left-back and Swansea right-back areas which are most vulnerable. If you look at one match in isolation, you'll notice this.

In short then, think of defending stats in that table as conceded to the right flank not conceded on the right flank.

Our fault - sorry for the confusion. Maybe we should reverse the column in the table or offer a tooltip.

Well, in that case back to the drawing board haha. I will correct it later using the same principles but with the midfielders on the correct side of the pitch next time 😀 Read it that the Right Flank would be for attacking chances would be up against the Left Flank for chances conceded, as effectively thats what it will be like on the pitch, RM vs LB.

Angel Rangel bombing forward leaves more space behind to give the opposition chances, that does make sense that they concede more chances that side I guess. I will re-look at this! Cheers

Not a lot that one can fault with that team Phil. I would prefer RVP over Aguero, but appreciate that means sacrifices elsewhere. Doing Yaya>Mata would give me the same midfield, but Chelsea fixtures and going without City coverage is putting me off.

I'm sorry but your team is an example of why team value can be quite important. Your overall value just scrapes over 100mil, what have you been doing?!

I would probably do Tevez>Berbatov and leave it at that for now.

Should I transfer out Henderson (on loan to Ispwich) for McCarthy? I have Cech as my first GK, so I probably won't need my 2nd GK, but it's always good to have a backup GK. Or is it just a waste of transfer? Or would you do any other move that looks more urgent? Team linked.

Evening all. So, I've been saving my freebie all week with a view to Michu & Suarez -> Santi & Berba in GW9. Let's call this option A. Is there anyone out there who fancies option B (below) to do a bit better?

    GW8: Tevez -> Giroud
    GW9: Michu & Suarez -> i) Santi & Ba/Berba, or ii) Morrisson/Walters & Aguero (4 pointer)

    Jaask, Fed
    Baines, Hughes, Cuellar, McCartney, Clyne
    Bale, Barfa, Michu, Pienaar, Guthrie
    RVP, Suarez, Tevez

You have to consider the interruption to his routine and the psychological effect of the game being delayed and then finally rearranged the next day.

I agree with Kostja. High chance of Rooney starting on the bench on Saturday, and the reason is that he had a stressful change of schedule resulting in playing a game later than thought and getting back to Manchester later than expected.

Hi to all, i'm not new here, but this is my first post 🙂
I want to do some bold moves, because i had a bad luck in last few gw with benching some players (rafael two times grrr), so what are your thoughts please?

    current team is:

    Hart / Cerny

    Cole / Rangel / Rafael / Baines / McAuley

Fellaini / Michu / Duff / HBA / El Ahmadi

    Torres / Ba / Tevez

have 2 FT, and want to cathc up in my ML, so this are interesting transfer

    Hart > Schwarzer
Fellaini > Gerhvino (i hate my self for not taking pienaar insted of Fellaini two gw ago, and now i want Walcott, but he is down, but if i buy santi, i'm out of money, and thats no good for future plans like Michu > Walters, and Rangel > Kolarov, or maybe Ivanovic or Begovic)
    El Ahmadi > Nolan
    Tevez > Giroud

-8 points, so what, Nolan will take care for that

Now team will look like this for gw 9

    Schwarzer

    Baines / Rafael / Rangel

    Gervinho / Nolan / Duff / Michu

    Torres / Ba / Giroud

    What you think?!

The indecision is driving me insane:

Guthrie -> Sterling (and bench Graham)

    or

Hazard -> Bale, Graham -> Berba (and bench Guthrie) for a 4point hit
