A fine Norwich performance has Arsenal slip to defeat at Carrow Road to deliver a hugely frustrating end to Saturday’s Gameweek 8 action. Here’s part two of today’s Stock Check…

On the Up

The Norwich Defence
Budget back fours continue to attract interest as expensive options fail to produce shut-outs and are forced to fall back on attacking returns. Chris Hughton’s side had showed promise following their opening day drubbing and demonstrated this again tonight with a gritty display. Their fixtures could be worse and the likes of John Ruddy may now earn some attention.

Grant Holt
A third consecutive goal for last season’s leading scorer at Carrow Road. Holt, at last, looks to have cemented his start in Hughton’s lineup and could yet offer some value as a budget striker option this term.

Going Down

The Arsenal Defence
Having started the season so strongly, with three consecutive clean sheets, the Gunners’ backline has failed to keep a shut-out since Gameweek 3. Over 50% of the Fantasy Premier League player base owns an Arsenal defender, with Carl Jenkinson the most popular option, but confidence in Wenger’s rearguard is diminishing by the week.

Vito Mannone
Any claims that Mannone had to the Arsenal number one jersey surely suffered irreparable damage this evening with a shaky performance and the error for the Norwich goal. Wojciech Szczesny may well be several weeks from fitness but he will surely be restored to the lineup once fit.

Santi Cazorla
The Spaniard failed to spark the Gunners this time, falling victim to bitterly disappointing performance from Wenger’s side which showed little in terms of goal threat. The recent clamour for Cazorla will see plenty frustrated this evening but the Gunners do at least have three home games in four to come in which the playmaker will be backed for profit.

Gervinho
Deployed on the flank once again, Gervinho epitomised Arsenal’s showing with ineffective display. His owners will now hope for a shift back to a central attacking role for Arsenal’s forthcoming fixtures but at least the injury suffered to Alex Oxlade Chamberlain could strengthen the Ivorian’s chances of retaining his starting role.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

      Form vs Fixtures here. I would be concerned that Swansea won't be able to maintain their form against good sides.

      0.8m in bank and a need to get Mata.. What would you do?

      Sterling - Bale - Cazorla - Pienaar - Hazard
      RvP - Ba - Berbatov

      1: Hazard -> Mata
      ..Simple & Easy. Mata outscored and beat Haz in stats of almost every area.

      2: Pienaar + RvP -> Mata + Aguero or Rooney
      ..Too risky to have 2 Chelsea MFs, no United, and no Everton MF/FW.

        Firstly you don't NEED to get Mata he's not going to get 10 odd points everyweek. You forwards and midifelders look nice so if there's no change needed in your defense then go Hazard to Mata - dont bother getting 2 chelsea mids in one team for 19 million

    So are Chinamag and other proponents of the 'no-RVP but let's get Kolarov instead' bandwagon feeling a bit uneasy after a weekend like this? I'd imagine so...as it's not the first time that Kolarov will come on for 1 point or RVP will score a goal while most of the world captains him.

    Another thing, You can't have faith in the lesser teams in this division. Lambert might look a bargain but dear god Southampton are playing poorly this season and he can't even make it into that team!

    Oh and one other point: Arsenal seem to repeatedly fail this year when the opposition plays like Norwich did. That's Sunderland, Stoke, Norwich they've now failed to break down. They need something different...it's worrying. I actually think on yesterday's evidence that Walcott could be essential to them this season. How unfortunate he had to be injured as I think he could have changed that game.

      I agree with all of that. I'm ditching Lambert for Ba this weekend. I should have sold Tevez for Ba 3 weeks ago instead of Lambert. I simply made the wrong decision and now I have to undo it.

      But if u didnt have rvp u could afford suarez and mata who bought in a total of 20points pre bonus 25 if u captained suarez. So depends how u use the cash.

      Team for next week:

      Foster - (Federici),
      Baines - Clyne - Demel - (McAuley - Cuellar),
      Cazorla - Toure - Pienaar - Guthrie - (Michu),
      RVP - Tevez - Berba. (£0.9m)

      A) Yaya -> Mata
      B) Michu -> HBA
      C) Federici -> Begovic.

      The Mata move is leaving me with 0.0 in the bank right now so will have to be done as early as possible. What should I do?

      Chances of Pienaar not playing today so Noble comes off my bench? Yea I didn't think so either.

      not so much a WC team but this is what id like over the next 3 wks -

      Foster, Begovic
      Baines, Boyce, Wilson, Clark, Gorkss
      Bale, cazorla, Pienaar, Sterling, Maloney
      RVP, Berbatov, Ba.

      2.7 mill in the bank in case I need to drop Maloney & downgrade a forward.

      Anything missing here?

        I know Boyce scored but he's averaging 2.25 points a game so I still wouldn't want him. I would upgrade Maloney to perhaps Morrison in the next 2 weeks. Other than that - looking good.

          Just Boyce has some good home games anyway & he was on my radar. Maloney rotates well with Sterling. Morrison scares me.

      Very short term(GW 9 and 10 only), possible high scoring defender below 6M?

      Considering Shawcross at the moment.

          thanks. how about wait for the CL game to see if Kolarov starts, and a probable punt on him if he does not play the CL game?

          Swansea have attacking fullbacks, and I see a City demolition coming up next week! Kolarov would be against the guy I plan to take out, Rangel:)

              Yup. But im in the mood for a punt, specially with the WC coming in GW 10. So for now I think ill wait for the CL game, would be so much fun watching if Kolarov starts against Swansea(got Kun as well). And they both might be benched:) Looking forward to GW 9!

          I agree. Its very strange how they dominate individually.

          Would be interesting if Pardew plays 4 3 3 tonight. Could be the start of it. Ba on the left isnt half as effective

      I could be considered mad by some on here but I did HBA > Mata last night. Seems ridiculous getting rid of HBA for his good games but I think Ba will match whatever attacking returns he gets anyway. It feels good to have Mata back 😀

                Mata just rose in price to 9.0 Mate. You know that?

                I REALLY suggest playing Michu over Guthrie.....and he might even continue his role as the lone striker.

                Michu instead of Guthrie
