[sbu_large_image] Suspensions

The eagle-eyed amongst you may have noticed that our Suspension Tightrope widget has made a return to your sidebars. This handy little tool lists those players on the cusp of a one-match ban as a result of receiving five domestic bookings before the curfew date of December 31…

Right now we have eight candidates performing a balancing act, with three standout names amongst them.

Marouane Fellaini has been a hugely popular Fantasy acquisition this term and, while he could possibly be in line for a return from injury against Liverpool this weekend, he is just one yellow card from a suspension, having earned three Premier League bookings and a Capital One Cup caution. A comeback in a stormy Merseyside derby may just be enough to topple the Belgian and see him miss Everton’s trip to Fulham.

Swansea’s Michu is another mid-price midfielder who has gathered many Fantasy suitors and, with a new role up front in Michael Laudrup’s lineup, looks set to continue on the ascent. With four bookings (including a Capital One yellow) a potential one-match ban could derail matters, however. His owners will be hoping the Spaniard can pick up that caution at City this weekend; this would mean he misses the Capital One Cup tie with Liverpool on October 29, to be available for the home league clash with Chelsea. That would be, errr…rather convenient.

Fellow Swan, Angel Rangel is also one match from a ban and could also do with picking that booking up this weekend so that he can also make the Chelsea game. With tough fixtures to come, his absence will perhaps be less of a factor for Fantasy managers and we’re set to see continued sales in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) regardless of a ban. With that in mind and a price drop from 5.1 in FPL likely at some point in the coming weeks, it might be a good time to plan the escape route.

In terms of existing bans, we know that Steven Pienaar is certainly ruled out of Sunday’s Merseyside derby, with Everton unable to appeal his red for two bookable offences. City will be without James Milner for the visit of Swansea with a one-match ban dished out for his red for denying a goalscoring opportunity at the Hawthorns. John Terry has two league matches of his four-match ban to serve, while Newcastle’s Cheick Tiote is the latest player to earn a three-match ban for dangerous foul play – he’ll miss league matches with West Brom, Liverpool and West Ham.

Lee Cattermole served out his three-match ban against Newcastle and will be available to Martin O’Neill for the trip to Stoke this weekend.

As always, these bans can be found in our Injuries and Bans table. We’ll be updating the tightrope widget every week from this point on, and bringing you our regular article summing up the new arrivals and the suspensions being served.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Decision time before price rise again..

    Begovic - Foster
    Jenkinson - Wilson - Baines - Gorkss - Demel
    Hazard - Cazorla - Bale - Sterling - Pienaar
    Ba - RvP - Berbatov

Decided to live without RvP a few weeks, is it too risky w/o United on their next 4 games?

A: Pienaar + RvP ->> Mata + Rooney (che, ARS, avl, nor, QPR, WHM)
B: Pienaar + RvP ->> Mata + Aguero (SWA, whm, TOT, AVL, che, wig)

Good point. I think Aguero or Rooney are fine for armband too, aren't they?

            Possible Captain Choices
Gw09: Bale (sot) or Ba (WBA) or Aguero (SWA)
Gw10: Bale (WIG) or Rooney (ARS)
Gw11: Ba (WHM) or Aguero (TOT) or Rooney (avl)
Gw12: Aguero (AVL) or Ba (SWA)

Umm.. Just seen City will be away to Real Madrid after Gw12. Not sure if the game still matter by then, but I think I should avoid City striker.

Your squad looks fine, if you're really set on bringing in Mata I'd just downgrade Hazard for him because Pienaar is a good, long-term, cheapish midfield option.

Then, Mata outscore Pienaar or Sterling.

    Begovic (Jaas)
    Baines Cuellar Jenkinson (Wilson Fonte)
    Santi Bale Sterling Nolan (Pienaar)
    RVP Berba Ba

    0.6 in the bank.
    1FT

I'm thinking do nothing this week
And maybe do Jenkinson -> Olsson next week for GW10?

Alternatively I could go crazy and do Pienaar to Walters.

Supposed to play midweek according to Fergie. Will defiantly get game time, perhaps not the full ninety. Like the idea of utd attacking both flanks, particularly at home, makes marking RVP much more difficult.

Anyone thinking of losing rvp or is it craziness? I'm half thinking rvp to aguero in order to upgrade elsewhere.

    Team is
    Foster bego
    Ivan Baines clyne demel nelson
    Yaya Hba michu pie Ramirez
    Rvp Suarez Defoe

Thinking rvp, Suarez, Ramirez - aguero, ba, cazorla/mata.

I like the list of players you're bringing in but no way am I getting rid of RVP apart from injury. Utd are probably going to score more than any other team, and RVP will score his fair share of them. I will be shocked to the core if RVP isnt in the top 3 FPL overall points come the end of the season.

Personally from your team I'd get rid of the 2 you mentioned (Suarez & Ram) plus Yaya. Not sure how the funds are could you do-

Suarez, Ram & Yaya > Caz, Mata & Ba

Do Suarez to Ba but hold on to RVP.
He and United can score against anybody.
He's just one of those players where fixtures don't matter.
Take him out this wk and you'll want him back in straight away for ARS, avl, nor, QPR, WHM, rdg.

And Aguero is too big a risk for rotation to gamble on

    Lescott/ A Cole/ Clyne/ Hangeland/ Cellular
    Carzola/ Ben Arfa/ Sterling/ Michu/ Guthrie
    RVP/ Fletcher/ Tevez

    1.9m, 1 FT

    A. Ruddy to Bego
B Cole to Santon and Michu to Mata for -4
    C Fletcher to Crouch
    D Other

Michu is confusing me, tough 2 fixtures but fell like i should keep.

So I'd play the fixtures and do C. Just worried about Sunderland, ands just dont see how Fletcher can keep scoring despite usually having only 1 or 2 shots per game. I'd take his points and price rises and run

Setting up differently away from home, Lambert to start in home games. Hasn't made any difference, seems strange benching your best player. Atkins is 3/1 second favourite behind Hughes to be first pl manager to be sacked, looks very tempting to me.

Yes definitely not injury. There is a section in the scout notes from yesterday about this. You should check it out.

Seems Lamby is a constant threat of rotation for away games now. I'm shipping him I think. It's a shame because he's a goalscoring machine, but holding him when he's benched for most away games is too frustrating

With Silva back in the frame I think it could be a big risk. Buying City players is an absolute minefield at the moment so I'm just staying away. Players that cost as much as City's do need to be playing every week IMO.

Gervinho looks like he's back to his frustrating self and has been shunted out to the wing to cover Walcott & Ox injuries. If I had him I'd hold for a little while longer, if I didnt, I wouldnt buy him

Can get in Silva for one of the big hitters (mata, cazorla and bale) if they are not performing.

Alternative would be getting rid of Rafael (ManUtd not strong at the back), and get Baird, then I can upgrade Ba to Tevez.

Just considered City vs United striker and found this set of fixtures (exclude league cup)

City seem to have easier league games on the next six. But the way CL games fit in the schedule made me decide to stay away from City striker. There will be a lot of rotation during the period and it could easily impact potential return from easy game.

Play Ajax before SWA. Play Ajax again after whm. Play R.Madrid after AVL. And play Dortmund after EVE. We could expect Mancini to rest, rotate, and prepare his team for CL games.. Except they are defeated this week.

    United / City

    Braga(H) / Ajax(a)
    che / SWA
    ARS / whm
    Braga(a) / Ajax(H)
    avl / TOT
    nor / AVL
    Galatasaray(a) / R.Madrid(H)
    QPR / che
    WHM / wig
    rdg / EVE
    Cluj(H) / Dortmund(a)

It's something to take note of. Fair play for doing so. It is also significant that Man City have by far the most difficult group and are so far yet to win a game. It is absolutely vital that they do so against Ajax and against Dortmund. So expect major rotation and Aguero and Tevez to be wrapped in cotton wool for certain games. Dzeko and Balotelli will start to see more game time as a result in the premier league in my opinion. Or else it could be that Dzeko will be saved for the Champions league matches as he's a tough guy to deal with aerially and around the box.

Really hard to predict.. 3/4 strikers are in good form. It's up to Mancini's tactics against each opponent. These two games with Ajax are quite critical and their best chance to go past Dortmund (assume R.Madrid can defeat Dortmund in both games).

Man Utd are really lucky their group is so easy. If they beat Braga they are basically through. And they can't really rest their big players for Chelsea and Arsenal. So it's pretty easy to predict they will play Welbeck and Chicho, Kagawa and Nani etc. in the Champions league. It may happen but it's very hard to imagine Rooney and RVP being rested that much for Premier league games...I could be wrong but I don't see why they would be if they tie up their Champions league group quickly.

Good work, and well worth taking into account. You are certainly right that it will lead to huge unpredictability at City.
I'm very unsure of what to do with Tevez for the nxt 6 wks. My hunch is Tevez wont start V Ajax but will play the wknd V Swansea but after that I havent a clue and may have to take him out, probably for Rooney/RVP who's fixtures will be ARS, avl, nor, QPR, WHM, rdg and if (as expected) United can get 4 pts V Braga in nxt 2 CL games Rooney and RVP will be virtually assured to start those league games.

Your MF look weak. Double Michu & Routledge is not ideal for their coming fixtures.

It may need several transfers. I'd downgrade A.Cole or someone from Stoke (good fixtures) or Torres for Ba/Lambert and use the cash to upgrade your MF.

Dempsey too much of a rotation risk. I know you have Sterling as perfectly good cover for that happening, but it will frustrate you when you know you can have Pienaar (pre-rise cost I'm guessing too) getting consistent points for you instead

Any help with my team would be much appreciated. I need to make quite a few changes over the coming GWs and am not sure how to go about it. Am willing to take a 4pter this week

    Foster Fed
    Baines Cuellar Gibbs McCart Hang
    Haz Caz Pienaar Sterling Guth
    RVP Suarez Lambert
    Bank 1.2m 1FT

Guthrie needs to go (esp with the Pienaar ban), Lambert needs to go (can wait a week though as he'll play vs Spurs), Haz needs to become Mata (Funds) and what the hell to do with Suarez.

    I'm thinking either:
    a) Suarez & Guthrie > Ba & Walters/Morrison
    b) Haz & Lamby > Mata & Ba

    a) is obviously more sensible and gives a decentish 3-4-3 to put out this week (i.e without Guth)
    b) is more of a risk but is what I'm leaning towards. It's relying on Suarez to pull his weight in a front 3 of RVP Suarez and Ba which I like. Then (somehow with 0m in the bank) sort out the Guthrie problem another time and play 4-3-3 this coming GW with Guth benched.

Sorry for the length of the post 😉

A seems the easiest potion as it both improves your team and solve the Guthrie situation.

What the situation with Gibbs? Him to a Newc defender could save you a little cash to play with?

Haz to Mata seems a little sideways to me. I understand non owners getting him but Haz just as likley to score as Mata. Understand the need to get cash but Haz could easy go on a run and Mata get none fore 3 weeks!

I like B for the same reasons you gave. Suarez can strike in his derby and your DF are decent enough. Cuellar and Hange might play away, but one is good defensive and another still have goal threat..

I'm not sure but i may rather play Guthrie and possibly bench Cuellar.

Slightly 'leftfield' maybe but I'd go Suarez -> Crouch and Guthrie -> Nolan. Those two rotate home and away every week perfectly and could be keepers for a long time. Theres still money to have Ba in too.
Gibbs and Cuellar look like a waste of 10.7. For me someone like ACole and a 4m defender be a far better bet. Or Wilson and Wisdom for 9m and use cash elsewhere.
      Just my 2 cents....

Yeh I agree, in an ideal world I'd love to sort my DF out (and Fed) but I'm afraid that will have to wait. Nolan has tough fixtures coming up too so I'm not overly keen on that tranny.

Your priority is Suarez imo. A non goal scoring forward is not great in this game

He scores though. Just in bursts. I just think with a frontline of RVP Suarez & Ba you could have some seriously good weeks. I know with Suarez he will frustrate me eventually though.

who do you guys reckon is the best option in the newcastle defence?

i'm planning on holding on to mccauley for next two weeks because I expect WBA to score against toons next week and then play mccauley for home SOU while toons have pool away. then take him out for a toon defender for a nice run of 5 home games in 8.

I've had Santon since the get-go this season. Appears to be locked in for that full-back role. While the Toon defensive returns haven't been great to date, he's the only Toon defender to have played every match this season

but isnt that because R taylor has been injured? I'd expect him to challenge for that spot when he comes back, but no idea when that would be.

Santon was ahead of R.Taylor in the pre-season and was playing that full back role before Taylor's knee injury

Just seen my rival is actually 244 overall.

Even though 100poits odd behind still confident of catching though.

    His team

    Hart
A Cole, Baines, Rafael, Reid, Barnett
    Mata, Kagawa, Michu, Noble, Sterling
    Tevez, Suarez, Fletcher

He had Noble in as autosub for Kagawa this week. Also brought in Michu for start of season after I said he was decent.

    Tips are stopping now though!

Anyone considering Kightly as a way into the Stoke midfield for their strong run of upcoming fixtures, as an alternate option to Walters?

I was going to, but then got tempted on Kebe of Reading instead. Due to Bale non appearance would have got his goal rather than Kebe's 2 pointer.

Kebe allows me to bring in Wilson too though, which is what edged it.

Morning lads, still getting over doing a text book last minute tinker - Mata to Santi for a 4 point hit last week. Upseeting especioally as my main rival gave the armband to Mata, reckno that s a 40 point swing....anyhows thoughts on the following:

    Fletcher to Crouch
    Pienaar to Mata
    Bains to Riise

    8pt hit - gives me:

    Bego
    Riise Jenkinson olsson
    Santi, Michu, Bale, mata
    RVP, Tevez, Crouch

    (Jass, Cruellar, Demel, Guthrie)

    Thoughts...

He drove me crazy last week. Here's my thinking on mata (and incidently the reason I brought him in, before getting seduced by Arsenals Nor/QPR fixtures):

        1. Chelsea will score goals and lots of them, IMO coverage is essentially almost irrespective of fixtures, they'll score oals against most teams.

        2. Mata, Hazard and Torres seem to be building a very good understanding

        3. Of these 3 Mata offers the best value (currently) and his form over the past 3-4 weeks has been strong.

So I need mata in my team and I know if I swap santi back out foor him - then santi will score 20pts agaisnt QPR and I really will be depressed 🙂 hence the elobrate reshuffle to get him in......

Well I guess I'll be the one to mention the elephant in the room.... You're considering an 8pt hit which includes selling Baines?
Big mistake, Baines is practically a left-winger who takes all of their set-pieces and gets 4pts for clean sheets.

Now i have sterling whos an excellent back up rather than Frei lol. Defence is decent and they all set for a good run of fixtures.
