With the upcoming schedule smiling kindly on Newcastle, Stoke and City, their main Fantasy assets take a climb in our estimations ahead of a strong run of respective fixtures. Our Watchlist rankings have been refreshed this morning and, as always, are available in your sidebar. Here’s the main protagonists ahead of Gameweek 9:

Goalkeepers

Having disposed of the trip to Old Trafford that saw him concede four goals, Stoke’s Asmir Begovic now faces an enticing run of games, including three of the next four at home. That’s enough to have him retain the top spot in our keeper rankings as the clear number one contender for a place in our squads.

The returning Tim Krul is his main rival for the top spot. Like Begovic, he has strong fixtures to come, including three at home in the next four Gameweeks. Unlike Begovic, there aren’t a host of cheap, attractive options in Krul’s defence and this could well make the Dutchman the preferred route to defensive returns from Alan Pardew’s outfit.

Below this pairing, our options are sparse with clean sheets remaining unpredictable and with far more attractive options amongst the ranks of defenders to offer cover of defences from Everton, Wigan and Fulham in the coming weeks.

It’s not helped by the fact that two of our most attractive options in the weeks to come – the Reading and Arsenal keeper spots – are in flux. While Alex McCarthy is the occupant at the Madjeski right now, Adam Federici is now back to fitness and could threaten a recall. Down at the Emirates, meanwhile, Wojciech Szczesny will be expected to earn an instant recall to the Gunners’ goal but is still thought to be a fortnight from returning.

If you must look beyond Begovic and Krul, then perhaps this is time to invest in the keeper position. The City defence should enjoy a recovery in the coming weeks given their schedule – that should see Joe Hart go someway to justifying his price tag. Along with Vincent Kompany, he is now the only secure source of returns in the City backline – a factor which boosts his appeal as a keeper option.

Elsewhere you could look to the likes of Tim Howard and Ali Al Habsi, although with Leighton Baines and Emmerson Boyce looking far better options, they are hardly desirable options. Simon Mignolet, as a strong rotation option with Krul, remains highly ranked as Martin O’Neill’s side continue to struggle for goals and look to shut-out at the other end to earn points.

Defenders

Leighton Baines will suffer from the suspension to his partner in crime down the left, Steven Pienaar, for the Merseyside derby, but remains a key component of our Fantasy squads. Everton’s fixtures are just too strong to ignore and Baines is amongst the most crucial captures for the next five Gameweeks.

Roberth Huth is another who enjoys a very strong run of opponents which should certainly see defensive returns and perhaps a goal or two. Marc Wilson is, without question, strong value here but Huth is the luxury item in Tony Pulis’ defence who has the stronger potential to deliver double figures.

Vincent Kompany’s appeal as the only real source of security makes him more attractive for City’s forthcoming run, while Arsenal’s Thomas Vermealen is in a similar position at Arsenal – there’s doubt about the personnel around him but the Belgian remains a constant in Arsene Wenger’s back four and he’ll be expected to deliver goals before long.

Wigan’s Emmerson Boyce and Newcastle’s Danny Simpson look to be the mid-price options of choice for the coming month. Two very different players, you’re relying on clean sheets from Simpson but with the fixtures to get them, he looks attractive. Boyce also has a decent run of home opponents, although his appeal extends to attacking areas, as we saw at the Liberty last weekend.

Reading’s Kaspars Gorkss is your budget choice – an unlikely option perhaps but the Royals’ schedule suggests they have the opportunity to get a foothold and if Brian McDermott’s side are to earn any defensive returns this season, it could well come in the next six-week spell.

Midfielders

Despite delivering disappointment and frustration in the 1-0 defeat at Carrow Road, Santi Cazorla demands patience given his run of three home games in four. Unless you’re willing to gamble on Gervinho’s starting role and position, the Spaniard offers the premium route to attacking returns from Wenger’s men and, given their fixtures, we have to expect an improvement in the next four Gameweeks.

That potential is enough, just, to hold off the relentless charge of compatriot Juan Mata. The Chelsea man climbs above team-mate Eden Hazard as the weapon of choice from Roberto Di Matteo’s lineup but, with the Belgian still sitting in our top five, there is a clear argument to cover both options in our squads. Despite a hellish schedule in the coming weeks, Mata and Hazard are set to be called upon to conjure the goals to steer the Blues to victories and that promises further returns for their owners. Certainly confidence and form is on their side.

Newcastle’s Ben Arfa enjoys a climb into our top five off the back of Newcastle’s favourable run. If you can’t cover Demba Ba in your attack as the first option, then Ben Arfa is a suitable replacement in midfield for what should be a profitable period for the Magpies.

Further down the ranks there are some excellent mid-price options, with Stoke’s Jon Walters and Southampton’s Adam Lallana leading the pack. Steven Pienaar slips with his suspension but will surely recover to threaten the top five once he’s eligible for Everton’s remaining run of strong fixtures.

Forwards

Robin Van Persie continues to cling to top spot amongst the forwards as the preferred route into United’s substantial attacking threat. While Wayne Rooney enters the Watchlist this week as a cheaper alternative, we’re still backing Van Persie to track ahead of Rooney in the coming weeks as United embark on three away games in four.

City’s Sergio Aguero and the aforementioned Demba Ba of Newcastle complete the top three and look very strong selections for the weeks ahead. While Aguero has been kept on the bench in the last two, it seems likely that he will see starts in the weeks to come to inflict damage and begin to emerge as a true heavy-hitter consideration.

Peter Crouch is a big climber – sometimes quite literally – and presents the most intriguing mid-price option for the weeks ahead. Having notched four goals already this season, we’d expect Crouch to get close to doubling his haul in the next five to six Gameweeks given the opponents in front of him.

Reading’s Pavel Pogrebnyak is a clear contender at the bottom end of the budget scale. There could be some doubts over his starting role with Noel Hunt and Adam Le Fondre pushing for inclusion in Brian McDermott’s lieneup but, if the Russian can cement his start with a goal, his schedule suggests he could deliver exceptional value on his 4.7 FPL price tag.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Yeah I sold Michu for Mata with 0.1 to spare so I couldn't sell Pienaar for him. Besides it was the right choice anyway regarding fixtures. For you I'm not sure I'd do it for a hit ay with United coming up.

Aside the fact Berba has scored twice all season, is injury prone and Fulham are mid-table at best, and awful on the road, almost guaranteeing you 19 fixtures of frustration and another 19 of hoping he's fit and ''fixture proof''....and....Gallas is by no means nailed on, especially when Assou returns and Vertonghen shifts back to cb.....and....Pienaar is not someone who you can bank on for a full season, and is hardly a heavy hitter mid who you can rely on even for guaranteed short term points, no matter the fixtures.

When you do see them lined up though it does look great I must say. RVP BA and Berba up front.....I have Berba Long and Fletcher right now. Wow.

Fair call on Gallas although I'm planning a shift to Sagna when he returns so it should be timely for when his place is under serious threat from the return of BAE and the form of Caulker.

Berbs is 7m so if his form drops there are plenty of alternatives about, Even Fletcher Long or Crouch could be options. Pienaar I see as a quality player but again there are other possible options such as Michu (if his price drops during the tough fixtures)

Yeah, it's night and day isn't it? Dropping him would be a real shame. Hopefully RDM won't want him to lose form for the CL through not playing regular first-team

Although scoring in CL, he still has not been playing that well. His performances for Brazil are a different level. He will come good in FPL though. I am considering him, especially if Lamps ruled out. Hazard just as at risk from Marin/Ramires.

Could turn out to be a massive differential if he starts to fire.

As long as RDM starts the Mata-Hazard-Oscar trio behind Torres, I think it's worth a punt.

Goodmorning everyone. I'm sure this has been asked before a lot, but here goes:

Being a Michu and a Pienaar owner, who would chose to ship out this week and why? (I definitely want Pienaar back in my team if I do take him out for - SUN, rdg, NOR)

My bench is no where near good enough to cover benching both of them. Cheers! 🙁

I faced a similar problem and I shipped Pienaar. I may well get him back in a few weeks though! If you only need to bench one, then I'd start Michu this week - I am. Yes he's playing City, but he's at home and perhaps playing up front again, and City have hardly been tight at the back this season.

Agree on City's defensive worries, Pienaar's straight back in for me after the Fulham game.

If I may ask, who'd you ship him for?

I shipped him for Mata. Did Pienaar & Suarez -> Mata & Ba for a hit. Not ideal, but had no room for price movements and didn't fancy starting Guthrie (my 5th mid) this week and benching Pienaar.

id keep pienaar & michu. start michu against man city, he was a striker the last gameweek and man city dont exactly have a watertight defence, its rangel i would be getting rid of, he costs 5.1 million and swansea are going to get no clean sheets, if you got a 4 million defender for him you could save 1 million

Before I new that the prices would restrict me I was very 50/50 and was seriously considering selling Pienaar. But its situations like these that you look at you're 5th mid and wonder if he can do the job. I have Sterling and I think he could go well so decided its worth keeping Pienaar despite the suspension. Michu out with those fixtures is fair enough too especially with Swanseas relatively poor form

I'd ship Michu - in fact I intend to do so. He'll probably get 1 or 2 this week, so no more than a sub for Pienaar would get. Pienaar then has decent fixtures until after gw13. At which point it may be worth considering Michu again.

Pienaar -> Michu -> Morrison until gw 19 gives:

ful SUN rdg NOR WBA (ars) NOR WHM nor QPR

      which isn't bad.

He was practically in midfield. They played the diamond in the 1st half and switched to 4-4-2 with wingers in the 2nd.

Rooney was top of Diamond then shifted out left thus no shots. Hernandez looked good.

i need to get rvp in for gw11 without doing too many transfers (not just for the hit, but because i don't want to take anyone out of my team, except cazorla who i'm not sure is worth his price). so what i'm thinking of doing is cazorla+ba -> britton+rvp. what do you think? my other mids are mata, bale, pienaar and sterling, so britton would just be on the bench 99% of the time. then my other forwards would be aguero and berbatov.

Playing Sterling 100% of the time then? Not super. But RVP & Aguero comes at a price and I agree that Cazorla isn't quite living up to his price.

ya it's not the best to play sterling all the time, but liverpool are slowly getting better, and he still does look very good, so if i could have rvp and aguero, playing sterling every gw wouldn't be the worst.

and ya, i was looking at either taraabt or kightly for a 5.5 option, but i don't need it anymore, so i've scrapped that

Room for improvement in your defence or in goals. Doubts over Gibbs, Demel & Federici. Cuellar - Sunderland's fixtures are stiffening and they've been a bit poor. If Federici isn't playing, not sure you want Foster running out for you this gw.

I've got 0.0 in the bank so I'm not flexible.
Gibbs should play, Demel is my rotation and my defense looks fine this week.
Cuellar could be a removal in the longer term as there aren't many better cheap alternatives in FPL this year.
Played Foster against MCI and happily took 3 points, I'm confident with him every week! 🙂

Ba is not much preferred as captain choice this week. It's understandable for Aguero or Tevez, but Cazorla? Last week performance of arsenal still haunted me.

Last weekend was away, this weekend is at home, and there's going to be a backlash after what happened in Norwich. And I don't mean the pedestrianisation of the city centre.

    Foster | (Federici)
Baines | Gibbs | Hangeland | (Demel, Cuellar)
    Hazard | Cazorla | Michu | Pienaar | (Kacaniklic)
    RVP | Ba | Lambert

    - Michu --> Morrison
    - Lambert --> Berbatov
    -4 points, worth it?

Michu's a better option than ever now he's taken the striker role. I'm keeping faith with Lambrini over his forthcoming home fixtures.

Wow, really? Well that's great news! Haven't seen Swansea play in a few weeks..
I'll might give Lambert another go, just don't want to miss the chance of bringing in Berba while I can..

I can see Tevez or Aguero doing significant damage this weekend

Those who ditched Tevez may well be made to suffer , especially as other captain options not looking that reliable this week

      Sadly not Yaya though.

Bale is another one who potentially could get a double digit score this weekend.

      Tevez facts

      1) Only been rested once this season , It was the first home game Man C havent won for months

      2) scores in the seven games he has started

      8 12 15 5 4 5 7

Home to Swansea looks perfect for a decent score. Why isnt he top of the captains poll??????

Kun will play tonight, considering how big the game is for sure.

The question is, do you see him rested on the weekend post this, with no midweek games next week. Is he usually rested before or after big games?

Also remember, this fixture was his debut last season, when he ripped them to shreds in a 20 min appearance

I'd love to stick in Aguero but I can't afford him *weeps*. I just feel very uncomfortable going into the city game with no coverage so I think Tevez could be worth a hit (as much as I loathe taking hits).

Pienaar and Michu owners , maybe its time for 4 3 3

leaving them both on the bench this week. Its a good opportunity to use transfer on a decent defender.
Im not playing three at the back , Michu almost guaranteed one point this week , he almost certain to get deliberatly booked so he just misses a league cup game

I agree. I'm surprised so many people are getting Michu in. Ok, so he's OoP but they won't beat City at the wknd and their fixtures don't get any easier in the short term.

Lots of good options at that price, I'm going Walters myself

      Huh?

I assume you mean Baines+Sterling out, Gibbs+Walters in.

That doesn't motivate me much, Walters yeah, but Gibbs coming back from injury... I'd keep faith with Baines for sure, and Sterling is getting amongst the goals, not much more you could hope for, for the money.

It's on Ibra at the moment because he's at home, vs weaker opposition and more of a differential. I think he's the type to boss it vs weaker teams.
