Among Stoke’s “jolly green giants,” as Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson referred to the Staffordshire side earlier this month, Peter Crouch stands tallest. Unlike the more robust looking of Stoke’s leviathans such as Robert Huth, however, Crouch’s freakishly long, fragile looking 6 foot 7 inch body means he is too often underestimated as a footballer. This allows his deft touch and at times prolific goal scoring ability to frequently catch teams unaware.

For England, he has scored an impressive 22 goals over his 42 appearances between 2005 and 2010, whilst during his three year spell at Liverpool, which came to an end in 2008, he also scored 22 goals, including a “perfect hat-trick”, with his head, left foot and right foot, against Arsenal in 2007. The previous year Crouch’s assist for Steven Gerrard’s second goal in the FA Cup final proved another highpoint in his career.

It is not just opponents that often underestimate this 31-year-old, though; Fantasy managers are also often too quick to dismiss Crouch.  Owned by just 9.4% of managers in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game and 0.8% of managers in the Sky Sports game, he has emerged as a key differential as Stoke’s fixture list significantly improves over the next eight Gameweeks (SUN, nor, QPR, wha, FUL, NEW, wba, avl).

Whilst Stoke’s opening run of games have been among the toughest in the Premier League, Crouch has already performed well, though, accruing 46 points in the FPL game, with four goals, an assist and 11 bonus points to his name. He is now ranked fifth in the FPL game among strikers in terms of total points – only Ba and Fletcher have collected more bonus points thus far.

Slowly but surely Fantasy managers are beginning to look beyond his tall frame and see the genuine footballing prospect that lies beneath. He has risen 0.2m in the FPL game over the last eight weeks, where he is now priced at an affordable 6.7m. Those setting the prices in the Sky game are perhaps less naive about Crouch’s potential and have slapped him with an 8.8 valuation but he could prove to be worth every penny if this lanky titan can continue his fine form over the kind looking schedule ahead.

The major issue surrounding Crouch as a prospect is whether there is room in our three-man FPL forward lines to find a space for the Stoke striker. With the likes of Steven Fletcher, Demba Ba, Dimitar Berbatov and Rickie Lambert all vying for our attention in the low-to-mid-price bracket, there are plenty of viable up front alternatives also to consider over the next few matches.

In addition, having recently favoured a 4-5-1 due to a punishing opening schedule, Tony Pulis is expected to return to a 4-4-2 as the fixtures ease. Jon Walters offers an alternative route if he is moved back up top – classified as a midfielder in FPL and with spot-kick duties also under his belt, the Irishman is also expected to pick up plenty new suitors and could be a better fit for some.

I feel like Suarez --> Aguero is a done deal in my team this week at the moment, how would you fund it? (2 FT)

    a) Lambert --> Pogrebnyak (Or other £5.2m striker)
    b) Michu --> Kightly
    c) RVp --> Rooney
    d) Don't bother

Certainly not A anyway, Lambert is a 12-15 goal man, on pens, with 4 home games in 6.

C is an option, but you have RVP for a reason. And against Chelsea and Arsenal I'd expect Rooney to play a bit deeper.

B - I would look to get rid of Michu anyway, what is the budget, not too sure about Knightly

Would favour Morrison over Knightly anyway. Knightly will be under threat from Etherington perhaps.

Morrison has new SOU wig CHEL sun swa STO are WHU NOR. In the short term he has 3 away in 5, but its not the worst set of fixtures.

Sterling definately an option as he is guaranteed starts, but eve NEW che WIG swa tot is not very enticing.

Lallana is the obcious choice but not when you already have lambert

What about a chance on Hoilett at 5.8. Outside of this weeks fixture at ars and gw at mufc, he has RDG sto SOU sun AVL wig FUL new WBA LIV. After the everton game last week i'd fully expect him to hold a place for a few weeks at least.

    Mannone Davis
    Rafael baines demel cuellar davies
    Pienaar barfa Morrison michu cazorla
    Lambert suarez rvp.

Have 2FT and 0.2m in the bank. My biggest worry is that i DON’T have any city/chelski/spurs players in my team plus the fact that lambert is a rotation risk now….

    So a couple of questions:
    1) What should i do with lambert…he didnt start last game but he always starts at home so shd i play him this week and take him out next week?

    2) if i take lambert out this week, which striker should i bring in? i was thinking defoe for spurs coverage/ba if i take barfa/ jelavic if i drop pienaar/tevez but rotation risk

    3) I really want some city coverage so thinking of bringing in nasri…thoughts? i can do without chelski coverage since they have bad fixtures

    4) whats the general feel around michu…bad fixtures but playing as a striker….

    ALL thoughts welcome:).

Ba or Crouch? Crouch allows me to Nolan>Mata next week and keep Rafael. Alternatively I downgrade Rafael to Simpson next week in order to get Mata in for a hit.

    Begovic

    Baines - Wilson - Rafael

    Bale - Nolan - Sterling - Cazorla

    Berbatov - RVP - ?????

One thing we are all forgetting about this Kolarov punt is that even if he starts, he can still return a 1 or 2 pointer. I mean it's not that he is nailed on to score whenever he plays.

Isn't it funny that, after all the speculation about breaking up the template attacks and selling Tevez and RVP, both RVP and Tevez have outscored ALL of the touted replacements over the last 2 weeks.

The time will come to sell Tevez and perhaps RVP too but it looks like we're not there just yet.

Have to say that he hasn't been worth 13.5m so far but if he gets rested for CL games from now on then he has the chance to prove his worth.

I won't think twice about selling Tevez when the time comes. It's been nice having him and he's been good value but he won't be if he starts playing less than 75% of City's game time.

Actually very pleased with my strikeforce this week now.

Giroud rested and Gervinho put up front. Gets no goal and grabs a yellow card and then is subbed off at 75 mins. Giroud safe for the QPR trip. Whether he scores or not....that's a different kettle of fish.

Aguero played the full game against Ajax along with Dzeko. Although he made little impact it looked like Dzeko was very wasteful so probably won't be granted two starts in a row. With Balotelli being Balotelli I think Aguero and Tevez will start together vs Swansea. Goals are needed and Aguero is returning whether he starts or not. Balotelli hasn't scored in his last 3 starts for City so I can't see it any other way.

RVP. Well, not many words are needed here. I'd be very surprised if United didn't score at least 2 against a Terry-less Chelsea. Will be a very high scoring game I think.

    RVP Aguero(C) Giroud

    I'm happy 🙂
