The Saints go limping on, suffering another damaging defeat at the hands of a solid showing from Steve Clarke’s Baggies. Here’s the Stock Check from tonight’s concluding Gameweek 10 encounter…

On The Up

Peter Odemwingie
Without a goal in his last five league appearances, the Nigerian struck a superb brace to offer a reminder of his former Fantasy glories. Odemwingie notched 15 goals and 9 assists in his debut Premier League season but struggled to find double figures for goals last term, often employed in a wider role and with limited starts. That has continued this term, with Steve Clarke handing him just four starts so far.

The West Brom Defence
Having gone four matches without a clean sheet, the Baggies were at their resilient best tonight with the midfield working tirelessly to protect a solid back four unit. West Brom have kept four clean sheets at home this term and the likes of Ben Foster in goal, along with Liam Ridgewell and Gareth McAuley go on offering value. They do have three away games in four, four in the next six. West Brom have conceded in every away trip this season.

Going Down

Rickie Lambert
Earlier in the season, the Saints striker looked to be the budget striker of choice – a brace in the 4-1 home win over Villa taking him to four goals in four starts. Since then, Lambert has gone five games without a goal or assist as the Saints struggle for a Premier League foothold.

Romelu Lukaku
Relegated to the bench to make way for the impressive Shane Long, the on-loan striker is struggling to gain the starts he needs to make a lasting impression. When introduced, Lukaku looks a handful with the potential to offer explosive returns. However, Long’s workrate was on show again tonight and he continues to have a grip on the starting role in Clarke’s preferred 4-5-1 formation.

James Morrison
The Scot missed out tonight having suffered “a slight niggle” in training according to Steve Clarke – we know little more about the injury, although we can presume that Morrison will remain an early doubt for the weekend trip to Wigan.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Hi,
    This is my team:
    Foster(Bego)
    Baines-Rafael-Huth(Gibbs-Nelson)
    Cazorla-Bale-Pienaar-Morrison(Sterling)
    Suarez-Ba-Fletcher
I have 0.8m in bank. Thinking about downgrading one DEF to upgrade FWDs. How about if I go with Gibbs>Baird, Ba>Tevez & Fletcher>Berbatov with a -8?

yes correct too much investement in defence means one has to go
looking at the fixtures it has to be gibbs to a 4.0
      upgrade fletch alone imo

There is no accurate prediction to your question. Goal scoring from midfielders come in spontaneous plays and/or set pieces. Unless one of them clicks into outstanding form the only indicator could be positioning on the field and respective role in the attacking plays.

Right team for the week is:
    Al-Habsi
    Baines Boyce Gorkss
    Mata Bale Cazorla Gera
    RVP Jelavic Crouch
    (Schwarzer; Sterling, Hangeland, Demel)

Only thing I can see really burning me is lack of Newcastle. But the only way to get Newcastle in is to ditch Jelavic or Mata. Not overly keen on either move.

I had saved .4 away to swap Hangeland to Sagna. Think that is still a move worth doing?

Doosra! I heard you were the resident West Ham expert!

Have a quick question about McCartney, is he nailed-on?

From my understanding Demel is a RB and McCartney is a LB so they aren't competing for positions. Would I be right in saying your best back 4 is McC Collins Reid Demel?

Yes. But BFS does not see it that way - also, Tomkins will be in there sometime, I hope soon. BFS prefers Joey O'Brien to Linda - and so do the tattoos. However, while Demel is out, I would say Linda is safe. Keep a wary eye on Matty Taylor when Vaz Te returns ...

RVP isn't essential if you have a lot of luck with captain picks, but in reality I think it will hurt you in the long run. Mata not essential IMO, good run of form but won't keep up the scores he's been getting recently.

I have 1 FT and £0.2m in the bank.

    Foster, Begovic

    Baines, Davies, Demel, Cuellar, Gorkks

    Nolan, Michu, Bale, Valencia, Sterling

    Ba, RVP, Aguero

Thinking of taking Aguero and Nolan out for Suarez and Fellaini?
    -4 though.
Good idea? Or just save transfer?

On paper they sound good but Suarez doesn't have good fixtures and both he and Fellaini are on 4 yellows so they could both be out pretty soon which would put you in a terrible spot. I'd save or just bring in 1 of them.

Thoughts on my team for next week? (Just stuck Federici and Demel in there in case they start):

      Fed,
      Baines, Clyne, Demel,
      Santi(V), Valencia, Michu, Pienaar,
      RVP(C), Tevez, Berba. (£0.6m)

Was thinking of doing McAuley -> Cameron, Guthrie -> Sterling for -4? Alternately I can maybe get Bale in since he's such a big game player. So something like Tevez -> Crouch, Michu -> Bale maybe? That's all I can think of right now. Can any of you lads suggest a better transfer looking at that team or should I go ahead with one of the above two mentioned transfer plans?

Don't really like any of the hits your suggesting. Maybe just get either Cameron or Sterling. No need for both for a hit. Bale's fixtures are not good so I wouldn't be bringing him in for free right now let alone for a hit. Crouch over Tevez cannot end well.
