Anthony Pilkington earns the points for Norwich with a superb headed effort extending his side’s unbeaten run to five. Robin Van Persie fails to score or assist for the first time as a starter for United, with the Canaries resilient defence proving too good for the most prolific attack in the Premier League:

Going Up

Norwich Defence
The Canaries came into this evening’s game having conceded a single goal in their previous four Gameweeks but the visit of United was considered a real test of their resolve. A 1-0 win continued their upturn in resilience as Chris Hughton’s influence starts to have a real effect – they now have five clean sheets this term, three more than this evening’s beaten opponents.

Anthony Pilkington
His first goal of the campaign was enough to produce the points for the hosts. Norwich have not tasted defeat since a 4-1 battering at Chelsea in Gameweek 7 and while they may not score many – netting more than once on a single occasion so far – Hughton’s side concede even less; the opposite of last season’s form under former boss Paul Lambert.

Going Down

United Defence
David De Gea was given the day off after a trip to the dentist caused problems but Anders Lindegaard could do little about Pilkington’s excellent headed winner. United have now conceded first in eight of their 12 matches and for once, their attack was unable to bail them out.

United Attack
Tonsillitis kept Wayne Rooney out of the reckoning and with Javier Hernandez selected to start, Robin Van Persie dropped a little deeper. Having racked up 29 goals in the previous 10, with at least two goals per game over that run, the visitors were snuffed out for the first time since Gameweek 1. Three favourable fixtures in the next four look set to offer Van Persie a chance to rectify tonight’s blip – this was the first time he has failed to produce a goal or assist when starting a league game for United.

Benching Michu this week and Nolan last week makes me wish my 5th midfielder was a Shane Ferguson type.

Or at least that I was smart enough to realize Mata might be rested and bench him instead.

It makes the game more fun, at least for me.

A few years ago I remember financing Ronaldo's massive price by getting in some 3.9m Middlesborough midfielder who didn't play. Worked a treat.

Alot to be said for having a never going to pick 5th midfielder. How many teams would have had sterling off their bench this week though if mata hadn't come on for example? Guess some weeks are always going to screw you.

P.s stop benching players away to newcastle 😉

Next week is made easy by Fellaini being suspended.

Might have to stomach buying him at 10.4(?) next week but Ba looked good so Ill see. Annoying because I tipped him for a big season and was mocked..now those that mocked me are raking inthe points hah.

    Bego (Schwarz)
    Baines Rafael Cameron Cuellar (Simpson)
    Sterling Mata(c) Bale (Morrison, Fellaini)
    Suarez (vc) Tevez Berbs

    1FT 0.5 in bank.
Not looking so good.. Not really happy with my captain options. Bale to Puncheon, Tevez to RVP? Find it very difficult to drop tevez after 16 points!! But think RVP will hit big this week, and leaves me with enough to do Morrison-Michu in the near future

    Cuellar – Nelson – Mertesacker - Fonte - Gorkss

Defence week. But then, Defensive points are hit and miss anyway.

        Aguero is more key.

I guess i will have to wait till aguero makes a full 90 to make that judgement.

I don't doubt that but Tevez is a very creative player, even before Silva came back in he was doing a lot for the team. Whereas Aguero looks more like he'll score more but won't get as many assists.

His all round game is class. I think that once the CL games are finished, Tevez, Aguero and Silva will be part of City's first 11.

Just hope Bobby Manc doesn't rotate too much

Thoughts on Sessegnon as a short term punt. Nothing this season to back it up but the fixtures are fantastic and the price is looking good. Surely this run of poor attacking form can't continue forever. Too much of a punt at £7.3m?

Not for me. Baines will finish as one of if not the top defender. Who else will be in that list is highly debatable. Don't fancy throwing away easy points. Baines is not in the team for clean sheets (they are just a bonus).
