Some big names went tumbling out of the Fantasy Football Scout Paddy Power Cup VII last weekend. None more so than Granville, who was handed an early exit after losing narrowly to Lrf, while fellow Scout contributor and our man in charge of the Suspension Tightrope, Anorak, also tasted defeat – he lost out 53-76.

Mark remains in the hat for the Third Round after sailing through 57-37 last time out and former world number one Iyad Zahlan also progressed, winning his tie by a four-point margin.

The full list of results can be found be clicking this link.

We’re currently in the middle of sorting the draw for the Third Round and should have that with you for tomorrow morning.

Any thoughts on what with this team? 1FT and 0.2 in the bank. On 676 points..

My thoughts at the minute are Ba to Suarez GW15 and Walcott to Silva probably funded by down grading Baines (and get him back with the January WC).

    Begovic
    McCartney Baines Rafael
    Mata Walcott Michu Puncheon
    Ba Van PersieTevez

    Subs: Tremmel Gorkss Nelsen Fellaini

    Sugguestions welcome..

Following on from my post earlier on about disregarding players in your team playing each other, I'd like to add that you should also disregard what players your mini-league rivals own/don't own/are likely to captain.

Far too often people are posting proposed transfers/captaincy decisions on the basis of wanting to 'neutralise' an opponent's star player or come up with a 'differential' to close the gap on the leader (usually a trivial amount of 50 points or something).

Allowing those kind of things to influence your decisions is madness at all but the very last stages of the season (last 6 weeks or so) where if your mini-league is your main aim you can justify factoring these things in.

I just can't understand wanting to manage your team in that way after 12 weeks of the season. It's really very simple - pick the team that you believe will get the most points. Ignore what your rivals do - if you get the most points, you win your mini-leagues.

Can't agree with that - every game week is one lost when your behind - btw 50 points is not trivial in my view

50 points is not trivial at this stage of the season?

26 gameweeks left to make up 50 points. That's less than 2 points a gameweek to make up. Or to put it another way, 1 clean sheet a fortnight.

Making decisions based on rivals' teams is a recipe for disaster in my opinion.

it can work both ways i reckon. this week i put in cuellar away to fulham as i knew my rival would play him. he his 26pts behind me and as long as im in front of him he will keep taking hits and hopefully fall behind.

cancelling him out with cuellar ended up getting me 9pts

I'm not sure but it sounds like you're saying you would make that transfer regardless of whether you really wanted Cuellar in your team which I just find very odd. Yes, it worked on this occasion but if your rival had Hangeland in his team and you'd made a 'blocking' move would you feel good about the tactic?

Well you're not if you base your transfers on cancelling out your rivals differentials. It's very easy to win weeks by 10-20 points so if you do this occasionally and match them in the rest then it's easy to catch up.

You can ignore your rivals completely if you have the guts to trust your judgment - their actions have no bearing on the scores you get.

Sure you can. Ignore them and pick the players you think will score well, and if you pick the right players (or at least more right than your rival) then you will catch up. Marathon not a sprint springs to mind.

You don't need to, that's just what you need to average across the period - it's a trivial amount over your rival's score when you look at it that way.

Fair point. I've always been fascinated by how seriously people take these mini-leagues. Especially when they're with friends/family usually. I'm in one with my bros but I honestly don't care what they do with their teams...In fact I'd prefer if they did better most of the time because I feel sorry for them if they don't.

I take the mini-league I'm in with my brother 'seriously' in that I'm very keen to beat him but only because it's a fine source of mickey taking between us. I couldn't tell you who he has in his team currently though.

Yeah but I'm a relative newbie and I don't have a real social sense of FPL like others do. My older bro got me into it and I just really enjoy it. I just have natural sympathy for my bros if they don't do well in stuff. Same goes for FPL! Then again if I was miles behind, you're right...I'd be eager to catch up.

I'm afraid I'm guilty of that. My mini league is small and my enemy and I are both competitive and want to win! I'm always trying to work out who he's bought in and how to counter it!

Just ask my wife when I'm like a bear with a sore head on a Saturday night after the enemy have just beaten me by 17 points, like this last GW.

Add to that the defeat being self inflicted by my "genius" in getting in Fellaini for Cazorla and captaining RVP it does make me think that my analysis does go a little too far and, indeed, may cloud ones judgement.

There were numerous warnings here not to get rid of Caz, for example, as Spurs, Arsenal is usually high scoring, but I went and did it because I knew my rival had Fellaini.

Which actually proves your very point 🙁

Caz over Hazard for me. Mccarthy over Cerny. Possibly Fletcher over Ba with double GW to free up money for transfers in future. Upgrade Obrien or Nelsen if Ba>Fletcher. Thats my opinion anyway, still looks good 🙂

Haven't done an RMT since August, but I'm being indecisive regarding transfers:

    Bego, Foster

    Baines, McCartney, Gorkss, Clyne, Davies

    Mata, Fellaini, Michu, Caz

    RVP, Tevez, Berba

    I have 1m in bank

Head says Clyne to Cuellar, heart says Foster and Fellaini/Michu to Tremmel and Silva next week.

Keeping Baines, so don't try it.

      Strong team.

Agree with keeping Baines, otherwise defence would be like Poundland.

Cueller in would give you a DGW player and Sunderland better defensively I think than Southampton.

I would keep Michu as good value and plenty of goals I feel over the season for him.

so everybody thinks Roman has done the wrong thing?

I've no high regard for RdM and they did enjoy a lot of good fortune in the Bayern & Barca games but to write 'the ucl the fa all were fluke wins' lacks a smigden of credibilty, more of someone with an agenda.Sacking him less than 7 months since he won a double, smacks of a gigantic ego subtly blended with large spoonful of ignorance.

I know i need to improve my defence but i dont know how to get the funds to do it, i was thinking Mertesacker > Cuellar giving me 0.6 and then i could do Nelsen > Jones/Wisdom for a -4 and have 0.1/0.0 left which would sort my defence situation but dont really want to take a hit
    PLEASE HELP ME

Mig likely to do better over dgw - lots of potential saves from chelsea will make up for lack of clean sheet. Fulham will concede over next few games...

That is a great shout to be honest never really thought of that, was just thinking to try and get Cuellar in which would most likely make me transfer Mertesacker out, thanks for the advice

Only bad thing is Fulham and Stoke rotate well so if i bring in Mig, Begovic will be left on bench when he has home games, so should i do Mertesacker > Cuellar so i get the Sunderland cover and i can just play Beg when Fulham are away?

I know but it is not as stupid as it sounds.
Your weekly score does not take into account the points hits. So I guess that FFS managed to find a way to impact any extra transfers on the weekly score, and I hope that they just dont treat 2 FT the same way as a -4...

If you play any H2H leagues you will see that you or you're opponents score is deducted -4 for that that particular gameweek, H2H cup ties are treated the same.

Hits are counted in h2hs, free transfers are free. FFS just use the FPL scoring. Simple 🙂

Just as long as you never ever bench Berbatov, you`ll do fine. Its probably a toss-up between Llallana and big Raheem as for potential this weekend. I can totally see Liverpool getting multiple goals against a shaky Swansea defence, but same applies to Soton.

Will backfire knowing my luck but im 90 % getting fletcher in after this GW provided sunderland show good form v WBA.

    Reasoning

    Good fixtures
    DGW

    Who to sell

Ba - Get the feeling he should be the one to go i got so lucky on sat captained him and got 8 points in injury time maybe its a sign the luck will run out soon.

Berbs - so key to fulham and they look fill of goal no matter who they face , sun was an exception with the red card IMO

Suarez - As much as i dot like him hes quality and the form player of the league and he is key to liverpools goals
