Michu climbs off the bench to net yet again for Swansea, while Kieran Gibbs and Lukas Podolski are amongst the goals for the Gunners ahead of double Gameweek 23. Daniel Sturridge is handed a role through the middle and opens his Liverpool account at Mansfield as Luis Suarez adds to his season’s tally with a somewhat dubious strike to seal their progress:

Swansea 2 Arsenal 2
Theo Walcott was shifted back to the flank for the Gunners’ trip to the Liberty, with Olivier Giroud leading the line once again – a concern for Walcott’s owners ahead of double Gameweek 23. Kieran Gibbs continued to impress in attacking terms ahead of the double; the left-back, who has produced three assists in the last four league games, grabbed the visitors’ second, with Giroud supplying the assist, while Lukas Podolski emerged from the bench to notch.

The result means that, if they win their January 16 replay with the Swans, Arsene Wenger’s side will play seven games in 21 days – hardly reassuring for Fantasy managers eyeing up Arsenal’s assets. When asked post-match if his side could cope with the upcoming fixture congestion, Wenger went on to say:

“Today we had four players at home, and I didn’t bring on Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Francis Coquelin or Tomas Rosicky. Abou Diaby is coming back and if we find one or two on the transfer market, then why not.”

The Arsenal boss also took time to comment on Giroud and Gibbs. Wenger was full of praise for the left-back, who continues to look an assured starter in the XI:

“Kieran Gibbs had an outstanding game. He gets better and better. When you see this kind of game, it’s very positive.”

Giroud, apparently, had an issue with his knee, though his manager alleviated any fears by confirming:

“He has a big scar but I think he should be okay now.”

Michael Laudrup made four changes from the side that drew against Villa last midweek, with Danny Graham leading the line again, as Michu dropped to the bench. Graham vindicated his manager’s decision by notching his third goal in as many games and also supplied the assist for Michu’s goal, after the Spaniard notched within two minutes of climbing off the bench.

Similar to Arsenal, Swansea face a packed schedule over the next few weeks. With Capital One Cup semi-final duties to consider, Laudrup’s side could face eight games in the next 24 days if they win their replay – while rest and rotation will undoubtedly play a part, the Dane revealed Michu’s exclusion from yesterday’s starting line-up was more of a fitness issue – something of a worry, given the upcoming run of fixtures:

“He wasn’t 100 per cent. He picked up an ankle injury in the game against Reading and he also had a slight back problem.”

Mansfield 1 Liverpool 2
Brendan Rodgers made numerous alterations to his first XI for yesterday’s clash. Daniel Sturridge was handed his debut through the centre, with Stewart Downing once again starting for the Reds – Steven Gerrard was omitted from the squad altogether, while Raheem Sterling and Luis Suarez were named on the bench. Sturridge made an instant impact by notching the opener, courtesy of a Jonjo Shelvey assist, before making way for Suarez on 55 minutes. The Uruguayan grabbed a controversial second to secure his side’s progress and while Rodgers spent time downplaying Suarez’s handball in the lead up to the goal, his post-match thoughts were also focussed on Sturridge’s contribution:

“I thought he was excellent. He’s nowhere near fit yet, he’s come in off the back of an injury and hasn’t done a lot of training. I think you saw in that cameo today of 55 minutes his pace, his power and he scored a good goal. He probably could have had three goals. It was a good introduction for him, a tough one because Mansfield were very committed. He got his goal and that will give him confidence – he’ll look to keep scoring.”

It’s worth noting that the arrival of Sturridge has done little to quell Fantasy interest interest in Luis Suarez. Sturridge has seen roughly 10% of the transfers in that have gone the way of Suarez with the Uruguayan enjoying over 100,000 transfers in so far in the Gameweek. Rodgers brought us this on his new strike partnership, post-match…

“They can play together, there’s no problem with that. Obviously we want to fit in good players and that’s the most important thing, to keep the squad strong and build up a competitive group. They are both wonderful players, they have both got different strengths but the idea was bringing in players that are multifunctional and can play in a couple of positions and that is what Luis has shown he can do and Daniel also. They are both tactically strong, flexible in their play.”

I am very reluctant to give up on Suarez, as I would stand to lose 0.3 on him, and I actually think he will tick along quite nicely with points, even in the so called "tough" games...

Unreal, another reason why I went with Wilson was to give Shaw the chance to play in the DGW, I was looking at getting Martin at 4.1 in, but if I did that then I'd likely play him instead of Shaw, and I don't see the point in getting Shaw if I don't play him in the DGW...

If you've watched Arsenal play Sagna has been absolute rubbish. There is talk of him losing his place to Jenkinson and Sagna did say a while ago he wants out. Gibbs pretty much plays at the attacking end of the field every game and is bound to get some attacking points and Arsenal have one of the best defences statistically this season.

    GK Begovic/Jussi

    DEF Cahil/Demel/Hughes/Cuellar/Nelsen

    MID Puncheon/Walcott/Michu/Mata/Bale

    FOR Suarez/RVP/Prog

Once the DW over this week then switch Cahil to Gibbs...
This will then leave 1.2 in the bank... Any advice on changes for a WC then end of Jan?

1.) - Is a S'hampton player essential this DGW? I have none so thinking of Clyne or Shaw but not convinced.

2.) If I go no Saints DEF this GW, who is the best DEF priced at 4.6 for one GW only? I aready have Demel, Nelson and Davies. So maybe one of Lowton, Hughes/Briggs, R. Martin in ?

Is Mata really that important to go for? I ditched him earlier, and at 9.9, it imbalances the team a little with Suarez and RVP already in. So I was thinking of going with Cahill and Ba only, having Fellaini over Mata..

Thinking the same. It's him or Fellaini and with that price tag I am finding it hard to do without destroying other areas..

How is this looking for a WC team (yes I know it's the template midfield)

    Jussi/Bego
    Azp Mert Demel Shaw Davies
    Bale Mata Walcott Fellaini Michu
    Lambert RVP Ba

Plan to do Ba to Podolski next week.

@ Santi contray to your comment on captaining Rvp for the rest of the season with Tevez as vice i remind you of your previous comment in my Mata V Rvp captaincy debate for this week :
"No-one knows with any absolute certainty although the fact that he was only just rested suggests he’s in line for a run of consistent starts.
He has been so productive this year that captaining him over two games seems too good to turn down. So much upside despite the gamble."
Your implying that you would capt Mata and now you say Rvp , that's disingenuous.

I'm seriously considering dropping Bego when i use my WC at the end of the window. He's almost 6m now, and Wilson will be available at 4.0m. That's a huge difference. Reina is the same price, and i think i'd prefer him than doubling up with Bego and Wilson. Madness? He is the top scoring keeper after all.

5.1m. I see your point, but there are cheaper Stoke defenders to get, so whilst on a WC, i may as well cash in.

The fact that he's almost 6m doesn't mean that's what you own. You own a 4.5m Stoke keeper remember and that's a bargain. But nevertheless I wouldn't be totally against ditching him.

I disagree that he's a £4.5m keeper. It's his selling value that counts.

To me he's a £5.2m keeper and he's worth that. If his selling value somehow magically rose to £7.0m, he wouldn't be worth that to me and I'd sell.

Yes crazy. Bego will take on more shots as Stoke park the bus. He will most likely get more CS as Stoke is unbreakable at home. Liverpool are too inconsistent. Can beat Utd on their day but also get dominated by Reading the next GW

Any chance of a Facer article on Aguero? Or the evidence just too scant?

I could do with knowing whether I need to shape my WC team with an eye to getting him in after DDGW-apolooza or whether to forget about him for the foreseeable.

    Afternoon guys,
1 question i have 2 free transfers and already own Hazard, i will be bringing in Ba for Aguero with one of the transfers but the other one.....

1st option bring in Mata (double up on chelsea mid but then have no chelsea defence)

2nd option bring in Bale and a chelsea defender ( no Mata)

3rd option Hazard to Mata then still have room for a chelsea defender

The last 2 options would require a 4pt hit, thanks for reading plz help!?

Despite being ranked 1.1m, my cup opponent has a very capable team. He's played his 2FT and one of those will have spent on reducing his Chelsea contingent.
