Have toy considered Gerrard over Bale & Demmel to Pearce to achieve this? Your team is very similar to mine and I am considering my options, although I allow myself the luxury of getting Bale back if needed.

I've built up from running for 1 minute to running 6.5 miles today - this since last August.

I'd suggest using a treadmill, rather than 'real' running ... and each day bump up your dsitance by just a bit.

Interval training is a good one. I hate it, but a good sprint followed by a brisk walking pace is better than just setting the treadmill to your preferred speed and jogging along to Girls Aloud, I mean Kasabian.

Continue to do the 2 mile run as the more you do it, the easier it will get. Also try and do some quick, powerful cardio at home e.g. burpees, mountain climbers, jumping press-ups etc.

Do you gym? The rower is good for building it up fairly quickly.

Depends on what you want to do:

At gym if you don't have much time a good workout is called giant sets. Basically 3 sets of 3 different exercises one after the other to tire the muscle and your heart rate goes through the roof. You do that 3-4 times with two muscle groups. I got some of my best results from that in terms lowering body weight and increasing definition.

Or if you just want cardio can do a 3 way split: 10 mins treadmill , 10 mins rower, 10 mins bike etc etc.

Or just join a boxing club, you'll be doing lots of body weight exercises paired with bag / pad work. Hitting a heavy bag non-stop for a few mins at a time is great.

But with all of these...it's what you put in that matters, if you are half assed or take it easy you'll achieve nothing, but if you go in and give it everything you'll make huge progress.
