After one long, drawn-out Gameweek we’re finally edging towards the weekend’s deadline. Before we get there, we take our regular look at the Scout League standings and analyse the transfer trends, with a certain Tottenham wide man proving the most popular acquisition so far:

Scout League Standings

Kelvin Travers remains at the Scout League summit after racking up 99 points in Gameweek 26. He opted for just three players from Liverpool and Swansea, with captain Luis Suarez, Michu and Ben Davies picking up 49 points between them, while Robin Van Persie, Rickie Lambert, Theo Walcott and Gareth Bale all produced the goods. Kelvin now has 1753 points and has moved to first in the overall standings.

In joint-second spot sits Dan Jones, thanks to a 113 point haul last time out. He went with four players for the double, with captain Daniel Sturridge, Steven Gerrard, Michu and Jose Enrique picking up 65 points between them. Van Persie, Lambert and Walcott all boosted his tally, as did Cesar Azpilicueta and Wojciech Szczesny, as Dan moved up to sixth overall on 1726 points. Intriguingly, he still has a wildcard in hand, too.

Nicolas Boutar moves up the rankings after producing 100 points in the previous Gameweek. He chose a trio of players for the double, with captain Suarez, Sturridge and Michu providing 58 points, while Lambert, Bale, Walcott and Szczesny are chipped in as Nicolas ended the Gameweek on 1726 points, joint-sixth overall – similar to Dan, he also has a wildcard left to wield.

Sitting in fourth spot in the Scout League is Paul van de Kerkhof after he picked up 120 points in Gameweek 26. His decision to pick four players for the double paid off, with captain Suarez, Sturridge, Michu and Enrique registering 77 points between them. Bale, Walcott, Van Persie and Rafael all helped Paul climb to eighth overall, on 1722 points – Paul also has a wildcard left.

Finally, T.I. completes the top five after an 84 point Gameweek. He went with three Liverpool players for the double, with captain Suarez helped by Sturridge and Steve Gerrard in picking up 48 points, while Bale, Walcott, Jason Puncheon and Joe Cole all produced attacking returns from midfield. T.I. sits in eleventh position overall, on 1720 points.

Thanks to the endeavours of our top five, the Fantasy Football Scout league remains top of the Best Leagues. We now have a lead of 10.6 points over our nearest rival, which remains the FFS Members league – Julian Zipparo leads the way there on 1751 points, which is second in the overall standings. Julian chose just two players with a double – captain Sturridge and Michu – while Van Persie, Lambert, Bale and Szczesny, in addition to Russell Martin and Patrice Evra helped him rack up 96 points last week.

For contributors, Mark remains on top after an 84 point return last time round. Captain Sturridge, Michu and Ben Davies were his three double Gameweek players, while Van Persie, Robert Huth, Edin Dzeko and Mark Bunn all produced to keep Mark inside the top 1,000 on 1618 points.

Market Trends

Gareth Bale’s recent scoring exploits have made the Tottenham midfielder the number one target for Fantasy managers heading into this weekend’s deadline. The Welshman has earned over 121,000 new owners after notching back-to-back double figure returns and has risen from 9.8 to 10.1 ahead of a trip to West Ham. Moussa Sissoko has been welcomed into over 53,000 new teams, having scored or assisted in each of his three appearances for Newcastle, while Jason Puncheon, Theo Walcott and Marouane Fellaini have all been drafted in by over 29,000 managers.

Up top, Rickie Lambert’s rise to third in the forward standings has had a significant effect. The Southampton striker has been acquired by 77,000+, more than double the next most popular forward, Christian Benteke, with 35,000 transfers in. Edin Dzeko’s mid-price appeal has persuaded 23,000 to take the plunge, while Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney have been snapped up by a combined 34,000 ahead of United’s trip to QPR; Rooney’s 15,000 new owners will be kicking themselves after reports suggest he is unlikely to feature in that one. Indeed, a similar amount have invested in Arsenal duo Lukas Podolski (19,000) and Olivier Giroud (17,000) as Arsenal prepare to welcome strugglers Villa to the Emirates.

At the back, investment has been less frantic overall. Seb Bassong, with 18,000 transfers in, leads the way over United full-backs Rafael and Patrice Evra, with 17,000 and 14,000 respectively, while cut-price options such as Ian Harte, Nathaniel Clyne and Michael Turner have all earned around 12,000 new owners. Between the sticks, Simon Mignolet has been far and away the most popular keeper – the Sunderland keeper has earned 11,000 transfers in.

For transfers out, the double Gameweek 26 protagonists lead the way in light of their upcoming blank. Liverpool players, in particular, have seen significant sales – Steven Gerrard has shed more than 85,000 owners, Luis Suarez has been sold by more than 79,000, while Raheem Sterling and Daniel Sturridge have both been shown the door by over 41,000 managers. Swansea trio Michu (38,000), Jonathan de Guzman (27,000) and Ben Davies (23,000) have also been sold on by plenty.

Elsewhere, the rotation issues up front up Chelsea and City continue to frustrate. Demba Ba has been shifted by over 44,000, while 38,000 have had enough of Carlos Tevez. Somewhat surprisingly, top scoring midfielder Juan Mata has earned over 24,000 sales – the result of Rafa Benitez’s decision to bench his compatriot for the 4-1 home win over Wigan.

When I added him to my squad I felt he was a risk and just went for him because of his price. As it turns out, IMO he is now clear first choice, albeit likely to get the odd rest due to his advanced years.

      Good assist potential too.

Hey everyone.....Have not been on with regularity.....Baby CF is keeping me busy.

2 Questions; When the stoke defense is fit and playing, what is their likely defensive line up?

    Cameron/Huth/ShawX/Wilson ???

What is the status on Cameron? noticed that he was just a sub last week.

Season 4 of The Wire - The fat homicide sergeant (Jay Landsman) is angry that Lester Freeman is uncovering the Marlo Stanford bodies in the abandoned buildings adding to their case load yet a few episodes previous you see Lester carving his wooden furniture, Kima sitting with her feet up and Jay looking at a porn magazine waiting to "catch a body"??

Yeah I think so but 1 body or 10 if they are all boarded up and sealed shut in that way you are dealing with the same person/people committing the murders and disposing of the bodies in that way so you solve 1 murder you solve them all.

IIRC most were decomposed, very difficult to solve and get off the books. Plus in the 'hood and likely to be related to the drug trade, unlikely to be families pressing for the police to do something.

Carcetti was elected a few episodes previous. Good point from Mobb. They used lime and the bodies were unidentifiable. Jay referring to a bunch of John Doe's so it was actually a nightmare from a Homicide perspective.

I just think with Shaft(Lester) anything is possible.

this game is about future points not past. also people have strikers with a blank, good chance to take a punt, cisse has good fixtures, newcastle have been a better team since france arrived, so you shoudn't really look too far when evaluating cisses form/potential

yeah i've had him since gw2, so i suppose id lose value, but i feel his returns will dry up from here. Will try watch and watch the Newcastle game tonight and see if Sissoko plays/how he performs/his position and make a decision based on that. Haven't watched much of the toon army this season.

Unfortunately I have the uncertainty of having to play Guthrie and Demel, hence considering the hit. Would probably shift Guthrie for Puncheon the following week and rotate Sissoko and Puncheon.

That's the transfer I did this week, though not for a hit.

I'd say at this stage of the game the value saved up in Michu is worth reinvesting somewhere else, even if you only get half of it to spend. There's the traditional Carling Cup hangover to consider, plus his fixtures are not good.

Here an update from a United fan

He phoned the FA today enquiring about West Ham away and was told that a date of Monday 4th March has been marked down for a potential FA Cup replay between Chelsea and Middlesbrough. Chelsea have apparently agreed to this, regardless of the outcome of their Europa League adventure. It looks as if United vs Middlesbrough/Chelsea will NOT be moved from Sunday 10th March at 16.30KO.

No word yet as to when West Ham/United has been moved to, though. Premier League told him to call back next week after that FA Cup game.

The simple answer is yes we have forgot. I think a lot of people are still of the opinion that Bale is streaky and will have his barren run shortly. I think he's a different beast this season though.

A lot of time wasters but just seen some decent stats on the title race off Twitter (courtesy of @FPLExperts):

    - For City fans... in 7/20 EPL seasons a team with 53 points or less after 26 games has went onto to win the title. Faith.

    - What about City? The last time a team with 53pts or less after 26 games won the title was Utd (53) in the '02/03 season 10 years ago. Hope.

    - Only 3 EPL teams have had +60pts after 26 games & not won the title. Newcastle (60) '97/98. Arsenal (63) '07/08. Utd (61) '11/12. Spurned.

    - United's 65pts after 26 games is the joint second highest behind Chelsea's 66pts in '05/06. Chelsea also had 65pts at this stage in '04/05.

    - Only once in Premier League history has the gap after 26 games been bigger i.e. 15pts in 2000-2001 season. Utd 62pts v Arsenal 47pts. Walk.

    - United's 12 point lead after 26 games, is the biggest since the 2005/06 season when Chelsea's 66pts eclipsed United's 54pts. Gap.

P.S. I've always wondered, your 'name' sounds Bulgarian. Any connection?

It's a Gothic name, so it's possible he was born in that neck of the woods - though I believe the Bulgarians were still wandering around in the Ukraine at that point.

A Vandal, not a Goth apparently.

Do we really think that Titus Bramble is a preferred starter in that back-four? In other words, how likely is Cuellar to be still sitting on the bench this GW? I always thought he'd walk right in, is it time to start getting worried for GW27? If I was going to take him out it would be for a hit, so I guess I have no choice but to wait it out.

From the looks of it he might get to keep his place until he makes a terrible mistake.

Thanks for the feedback. I guess I can't do anything but cross my fingers though, hard to take a hit to remove him as he is VERY good value if he gets his spot back, which I think he will.

Davies and Demel -> Turner Debuchy for free sound good? The red flag just came off Simpson but there no way he gets his place back right?

      RvP.

no need to take risks. GW29 will cause enough problems and give a chance to catch up.

Think of it the other way around...if RvP does well and Cisse fails, you will be even further behind 😀

    Afternoon,

Any help really appreciated, stuck this week in what to do. Can field 10 currently if Demel plays, nothing in the bank.

    Begovic

    Harte - Zabaleta - Demel

    Mata - Bale - Walcott - Puncheon

    RVP - Podolski

    Bunn - Michu - Johnson - Sturridge - Davies
