We’re down to the final 128 teams in this year’s instalment of the Members Cup as Gameweek 27 saw some big community names fall by the wayside including “Doosra”, “Back Back Ballack”s “dribbler” and “Gaz Downright”, among others.

“Evs”, now up to 20th spot in the overall rankings, navigated passed “CHUBBY” by a convincing 60 vs 41 scoreline but fellow big hitter, Jonah, slipped out of the tournament: despite being tenth in the overall FPL standings, he made way as “Dilley” put pay to his campaign by a narrow three point margin (42 vs 39).

Previous Cup winner, “Fuzzy Dunlop” is going strong thanks to a 40 vs 32 win over “DBREADY” but fellow Hall of Famer, “Kippax Kikkers”, departs the tournament, turned over by “BlzBob” in a close 38 vs 34 encounter.

As for the contributors, Paul continues to fly the flag – he made it through to Round Three thanks to a 46 vs 37 victory over Rossaldinho, as Big Dunc went out to “mcginley50”.

The draw for the next round will be published tomorrow afternoon.

      I really find it hard to see how they're gonna stay up if they've forgotten how to score and their defence has got worse since Nelsen left.

          I seriously want him if I could find a decent 5th mid (lord help I'm tempted by N'Zog)

          Looking at his history it also seems he has become far more nailed on in recent weeks. It seems Clarke's love of rotation has been overcome by Lukaku's form, Long's lack thereof and Odemwingie's love of car parks.

    So, 4 out of 5 managers who have thus far voted in this week's Captains poll actually believe that there's a better armband alternative to one of the hottest footballing talents on planet Earth at the moment?

    Hmmm, Gareth Bale a differential? Nice one.

          Honestly though Bale can be great, but he's in one of his purple patches, remember his purple patch last season before Christmas, followed by virtually nothing thereafter? The patch can begin and end without warning. He's not got consistency under his belt yet. He took a long time to get going this season.

                Since when did I not believe Bale was a heavy hitter? I've been trying to find a way to bring him in all season. And the WC allowed me to do it...even forgoing Fellaini for him.

                I just think you are wrong when you say this is just a purple patch. He is consistently getting 7/8/9 shots a game and last year was different...he wasn't the focal point of the team. The Defoe injury has helped though as he has scored almost every single goal they have scored recently. Which is pretty remarkable.

                I could say the same to you about Cazorla (3rd highest points scoring mid in the game) when you were claiming he was just getting lucky etc.

                  Ben, I say this in really good faith. The difference between me and you is that I don't get attached to players and I don't feel a need to defend them. The points lead, I follow. The names are irrelevant. This difference is behind ~80% of why I can't get on with you.

                  See, this Santi you're convinced I hate. Three days ago I posted that he has been getting better returns since moving to the inside left position and is looking like a good option, certainly a DGW consideration.

                  This is really all there is it to it.

                  This is what I'm wondering, whether Bale's new position gives new consistency. The other factor is form, it tailed off late last season.

                    I think when you watch him lately he's being given a free role in his position. He's never glued to the left wing...he's walking around looking for spaces to fill and receive the ball. And once he beats his man for pace the rest is just easy right now for him. Then add in that his free kicks are at times phenomenal.

                    He's moved somewhat more central since Holtby arrived and it's made a big difference that he's not stuck on the left flank like against United. A pretty fluid situation though.

            I remember at the start of the season when the merits of midfielders were being discussed, Mark made the observation that Gareth Bale was the player who he fully expected to "kick-on" from the rest. He was most definitely right.

            Without doubt, Bale's in a purple patch at the moment but who's to say that it won't become incandescent crimson? It's shaping that way.

            Choosing him as captain this weekend brings back fond memories of Ronaldo. Anything less than double figures will be a disappointment!

              Ooohh, don't set your expectations too high! I don't trust Arsenal's defence at all, so it's tempting for me to captain him, but I'm eyeing Lambert and even Baines too.

    Tempted to go ahead and being in Lambert for Giroud this week rather than waiting until wk 29. Sensible or wait another day or two until we know full extent of blanks? Giroud dropping in price tonight

        As the article says, council housed and violent was made up a long time after.

        It originated round my corner of Kent in the 90s, and there aren't many public schools here. I'm pretty sure when it first started out it was aimed at people hanging out on street corners wearing shell suits 😉

        I remember having to explain to people in the late 90's what a chav was, never thought the word would go big like it has.

    It's a bit heated on here tonight!
    I think what Rafa said was from the heart and I've nothing but respect for him. All the discussion on here tonight has been about his managerial record/ whether he's past it as a manager etc.
    I'm not going to even go there.
    But as a person, as a human being, the guy is a legend to LFC fans and always will be. The FSW thing is disrespectful immature imo.

    READ THIS ;

    Rafael Benitez has donated £96,000 to a support group set up for victims of the Hillsborough disaster exactly a week after he was relieved of his role as Liverpool manager.
    During his six years at Anfield, the Spaniard continued to underline the importance of remembering the 96 Reds supporters who were crushed to death on the Leppings Lane terrace at Sheffield Wednesday's ground during the FA Cup semi-final in April 1989.
    Two months ago, on the 21st anniversary of the tragedy, he said: "Since I've been here it's always been very, very emotional.
    "All the players and all the staff are always there trying to support the families because it is a very important day for the club.
    "The first time I went to the Memorial Service I was so impressed by what happens at this club. You can see the people and all the feelings.
    "It's a poignant occasion to keep everyone remembering."

    AND READ THIS ;
    Liverpool FC's former manager Rafael Benitez has donated an undisclosed amount to the Rhys Jones Memorial Fund.
    His cash injection will help build the new community centre in memory of the 11-year-old who was shot dead in Croxteth in 2007.
    The new Inter Milan boss arranged for a cheque to be delivered to the Jones family on Thursday.
    Mr Benitez said: "In all my time at Liverpool this is one of the stories that affected me most."
    Rhys Jones was gunned down while walking home from football training through the Croxteth Park Estate.
    His killer Sean Mercer was convicted two years later after a lengthy police investigation and scores of arrests of gang members across Liverpool.
    Mr Benitez added: "I am doing this on behalf of the people that cannot. I know that every person on Merseyside would have loved to give the fund a donation but they are in hard times and can't find the extra cash.

        We all have our favourites. Many teams deserve more than they get, I just happen to remember British teams more than the others.

        Was this the same Valencia team that when protecting a lead against Arsenal in the QF, decided to foul every 30 seconds (slight exaggeration) in an attempt to ruin the game?

        See - Massive British team bias here.

    Next season in FPL I think they should change the rules so you can sell a player and hold cash for a bit (within a GW) before deciding who to buy. More 'real world' and means you don't have to make your mind up straight away having sold a player whose value is about to fall. Just a thought.

      wouldn't help for players you want that are going up, which seems the usual scenario. i would rather they freeze prices every week, only applying the rises with the weekly deadline, then we would not have to worry about this crap during the week and also you could wait for all the injury/rotation news instead.
      i'd also like to see no more extra transfers for hits, only the 37 free transfers you get each season. its gotten to the point where everyone has the same bloody team and i think that would go a long way to make the game more about skill than luck.

          Ofcourse not, but at least if spurs win you'll have a nice points haul from Bale. No need to sacrifice points due to hating a team..

        I've got Fellaini but I was soooooo disappointed to here that he is expected to play this weekend. I know I'm going to keep him because he's up against a dire Reading team but I also know he'll probably end up accumulating next to zilch nonetheless.

        If only he had an injury worth moaning about. I'd have Sissoko in without a moments thought.

      I agree with you. I've never captained a player against my own team. Having someone playing against them is bad enough but I couldn't walk over the line and actually captain.

      Mata, Suarez, Lambert, Fellaini, Walcott? Sorry didn't look at your team.

      Surely Roman cant fire two manager in one season, three in the space of 12 months. And if he does do so won't the fans finally turn on him rather than the managers, or are they really that obtuse?

    The way to make the fans like/love you is the Pardew way. I remember when Chris was fired the Toon Army was not happy, but Alan was working his part and look what happened. That is the only and the real way.

    De Gea, (Bunn);
    Johnson, Davies, (Dawson), Clyne, (Pearce).
    Bale, Mata, Walcott, Sissoko, Taarabt;
    Aguero, Sturridge, (Lukaku)

    1FT; 6.0m in bank.

    Thinking of doing Pearce to Wilson, can see a Stoke cleanie, and benching Davies but saving a FT would be the smart thing to do right? Don't have huge issues with GW29 thankfully!
