Sunday finds Spurs go head-to-head with Arsenal. The irresistible force of Gareth Bale, facing off against Theo Walcott’s emerging talent. Fantasy managers look to the encounter with much anticipation, then, with the neutral surely banking on yet another North London derby goal-fest.

Our Dugout Discussion Chatroom is now open to all-comers, whatever your allegiance.

The team news from White Hart Lane finds Andre Villas-Boas shuffle his defence again, with Benoit Assou-Ekotto recalled at left-back, shifting Jan Vertonghen to centre-back alongside Michael Dawson, as Steven Caulker makes way. Gylfi Sigurdsson is, perhaps, a surprise starter – he comes in for Lewis Holtby which could see him deployed left, with Gareth Bale playing central up in support of Emmanuel Adebayor. Jermain Defoe is fit enough to return to the bench. As for the Gunners, they make just one change with Aaron Ramsey earning a start in midfield at the expense of the injured Abou Diaby; Lukas Podolski is again amongst the subs, then, as Santi Cazorla is set to retain his role on the left-flank, with Walcott patrolling and cutting in from the opposite wing.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

The only way I see this system working if Arsenal manage to dominate 70-80% of the possession. Cause they dont concede a lot of shots. But most chances they concede are 1 v1 with the keeper.

I'm not expert but yeah the high-line is proving catastrophic. Once upon a time Arsenal had a back four that could play this, they;d all step up in unison and catch people offside time and time again. It worked brilliantly because they worked so well together. Today the current defence doesn't seem to have much understanding at all so it's; all over the shop.

Arsenal are trying to press higher up the pitch so they can try and dominate the game. They want to win the ball higher up the pitch and keep it recycling around in the opposition's half as much as possible. If they sat back a team like Tottenham would likely dominate them and Bale would see more of the ball. It's not a poor theory but Wenger simply doesn't have the personnel to do it right now.

High line works when four things are present. Each of the four is equally important
1 The back 3/4/5 or whatever it is keep a straight line and do the same thing at the same time. Very hard for even supremely talented and experienced defenders, impossible for the players at Arsenal.
2 You have at least one exceptional leader at the back who always knows what to do and gives orders and signals to the other players about what to do, where to be etc (Baresei, Adams, Maldini, Ferdinand, Terry, Carragher etc)
3 There is ALWAYS pressure on the ball in midfield. By this I mean you have 10 outfielders who are committed to giving the opposition no time on the ball to play. As soon as you give a quality player the time to thread passes you are totally screwed.
4 You have a keeper who likes and is brilliant at coming off his line - Reina, Valdes etc.

Therefore you are 100% correct, Arsenal have no business playing a high line V Bale, Lennon etc

Would have said the defence is pretty poor, Ramsey is poor too. Giroud never was and never will be a top striker.

That is a completely different statement to what you just said. I dont think that Arsenal can challenge for the prem given our current state, but that doesnt mean we are useless. Top four year in year out is a major achievement and I just wish people would respect that.

I do respect that. I hope Arsenal finish top 4 each year, but I don't get the "Wenger out", when he is doing a pretty good job to keep this current squad in 5th place.

I think we miss Song more. When our fullbacks go a wandering he acted as a sweeper giving us 3 at the back to deal with counter attacks. Players like him are rarer than decent strikers.
