With the Fantasy Football Scout Private Pool still open to entry and with TotelFootball giving away a free £10 for all new registrations, there’s still plenty of opportunity to get involved before tonight’s big Old Trafford clash. Trying our best not to get too distracted by the United vs Madrid tussle, we take a look at the TotelFootball player list to give you our view on the runners and riders for second legs of the last sixteen.

As per the rules of the competition, our team must be lined up in a 4-4-2 formation, with a further four warming the bench in a 15 man squad. You can pick up to two players per team, though if you exceed this allocation, you will be deducted five points per player over that quota.

With only eight teams to choose from, striking a balance is tricky. If you choose to go without points hits, you’ll need two players from seven teams and one player from the remaining club. The deadline is 7.45pm, though, meaning we can tinker with our picks for tonight’s two games after the official squad lists are rolled out – a real advantage for those favouring the hands-on approach.

Last 16: Week 3 Selections

Having assessed the lay of the land after the first leg encounters were played out three weeks ago, we’re leaning towards three of the four home sides. PSG, Juventus and Dortmund all supply our starting XI with a couple of players apiece as they look to clinch a place in the final eight.

Real Madrid arrive at Old Trafford on the back of two successive wins over Barcelona – confidence is high right now and we fancy Jose Mourinho’s men to prevail tonight. The script almost seems written for Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to spoil Sir Alex Ferguson’s evening, while Angel Di Maria’s creativity could also prove the hosts’ undoing. As mentioned above, with only two players per team allowed without points hits, our options are somewhat limited across the four games and we’ve opted for David De Gea ‘s save point potential between the sticks.

Our faith in Dortmund is also justified by the inclusion of a couple of their main protagonists as Jurgen Klopp’s side look to book a place in the last eight. The Bundesliga side play host to Shakhtar after a 2-2 draw last time round and, having won all three of their group games at home, are the favourites to progress here. We expect goals from both sides, though, and have opted for Marco Reus and Robert Lewandowski for the hosts, with Henrik Mkhitaryan selected for his role in “the hole†for the visitors.

Somewhat unsurprisingly, we’ve doubling up on Juventus for their home clash with Celtic. The Serie A outfit are 3-0 up from the first leg and will be keen to avoid any pitfalls – with no need to go on the offensive, we reckon they’ll keep it tight and a home clean sheet looks a likely outcome. Giorgio Chiellini and Stephan Lichtsteiner, who is classified as a defender but is likely to be fielded on the right of the midfield five, get the nod for tomorrow night’s match in Turin.

Although Zlatan Ibrahimovic is sidelined through suspension, PSG still have plenty of big-money buys more than capable of turning Valencia over in their home game tomorrow. Carlo Ancelotti’s side are 2-1 up from the first leg and will be looking to Javier Pastore to produce, while Alex’s propensity for goals from the back also earns the former Chelsea man the nod. With a spare place in our XI up for grabs, Valencia’s right-back Joao Pereira is selected for his attacking sensibilities.

Ok, never a red off course.
But, Utd didn't lose when it was shown. I am surprised by SAF's lack of reaction. He should've made a change. Bring in fresh player. Stop Real's momentum. Come on the pich and kick ref. . . Something.

I agree. Loads of teams have managed to hang on/win in the past with 10 men. Inter and Chelsea come to mind in recent times (both against Barcelona). United needed to stop complaining and get on with the game.

I'm a Chelsea fan, and don't like United much, but the people on here celebrating are pissing me off too. I think the game was United's had Nani not been sent off. It did shut some people though, the tactics really worked.

So IF Nani's foot was high and his studs were showing when he tried to bring the ball down - and Arbeloa WASN'T there that would also be a red? - its equally as dangerous. The red card was BS.

No because kicking the ball is not the issue here. It's whether or not that challenge from Nani is deemed to be dangerous or not. Nani doesn't know Arbeloa is there. To him he is merely bringing the ball down. If it doesn't matter if Nani meant it or not the foot that high needs to be deemed dangerous or not dangerous regardless of where the opponent is.

Good point. Apparently intent doesn't matter here but the player still has a responsibility to ensure he isn't endangering anyone on the field. Nani doesn't know if there is a player at the end of his boot so that would indicate he is in a dangerous position bringing the ball down like that unchallenged or otherwise.

    #BBC SPORT
aside from the referee's eyesight, there have been some interesting sightings at old trafford.

England manger Roy Hodgson was apparently at the game and greeted by Manchester United fans chanting the name of Rio Ferdinand.

There have also been some blurry camera phone pics doing the rounds on Twitter which purport to show Tottenham tyro Gareth Bale arriving to take up one of the posh seats.

If you are going to make an attempt to control a ball at chest height, make sure you are in at least 20 yards of space.

That way, you won't run the risk of a harsh red card for scraping someone's arm who just happens to be in the vicinity.

      Aye.

I was thinking of keeping Walcott but he's going down in price again and Arsenal's next Prem game is away to Swansea, which I don't see them getting much out of.

Walcott may well be down to about £8.9m by GW 31 so it wouldn't be too hard to get him back. I'm thinking of doing him for Gerrard this week and keeping Stevie G for Liverpool's trip to southampton before looking at getting Theo back.

Gerrard makes it a lot of easier to get Walcott back without having to make multiple moves.

So... how high is a player allowed to raise his foot to control a ball? Is he allowed to raise his foot if no-one is near him? What iof he raises his foot and someone runs onto it? etc. etc.

Nani has an eye only for the ball which both he an Arbeloa were going for. Roy says Nani should have seen Arbs approaching and pulled out (or something similar). Surely Arbeloa should have see what Nani was doing and taken avoiding action? 6 of one, half a dozen of the other.

Shouldn't Crouch have been given a red for the Collinson indecent this w/e if this is true?

1st goal was Modric on his own. He had no space, dribbled to still have no space and shot over Evra's head to score a ridiculous effort.

2nd goal Higuan managed to cross whilst, the crucial bit, Welbeck was back defending in the LW spot. Hence had Nani been on Welbeck would not have been back, no extra man.

But as I said, ManU may well have scored themselves.

Modric got space from the midfield players being over ran outside the box, 1 or 2 over committed and the space was there. Of course it had a MASSIVE EFFECT.

until the red, nani was playing well imo. Welbeck was awesome. Giggs supreme.

Giggs was a real surprise for me, thought he would be the flop, but everyone did very well.

Giggs was brilliant in the 1st half but ineffective in the 2nd unfortunately

Absolutely. Welbeck was terrific imo. His close control and composure on the ball really helped Utd keep possession in the first half. Plus he completely nullified Alonso.
