With the Fantasy Football Scout Private Pool still open to entry and with TotelFootball giving away a free £10 for all new registrations, there’s still plenty of opportunity to get involved before tonight’s big Old Trafford clash. Trying our best not to get too distracted by the United vs Madrid tussle, we take a look at the TotelFootball player list to give you our view on the runners and riders for second legs of the last sixteen.

As per the rules of the competition, our team must be lined up in a 4-4-2 formation, with a further four warming the bench in a 15 man squad. You can pick up to two players per team, though if you exceed this allocation, you will be deducted five points per player over that quota.

With only eight teams to choose from, striking a balance is tricky. If you choose to go without points hits, you’ll need two players from seven teams and one player from the remaining club. The deadline is 7.45pm, though, meaning we can tinker with our picks for tonight’s two games after the official squad lists are rolled out – a real advantage for those favouring the hands-on approach.

Last 16: Week 3 Selections

Having assessed the lay of the land after the first leg encounters were played out three weeks ago, we’re leaning towards three of the four home sides. PSG, Juventus and Dortmund all supply our starting XI with a couple of players apiece as they look to clinch a place in the final eight.

Real Madrid arrive at Old Trafford on the back of two successive wins over Barcelona – confidence is high right now and we fancy Jose Mourinho’s men to prevail tonight. The script almost seems written for Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to spoil Sir Alex Ferguson’s evening, while Angel Di Maria’s creativity could also prove the hosts’ undoing. As mentioned above, with only two players per team allowed without points hits, our options are somewhat limited across the four games and we’ve opted for David De Gea ‘s save point potential between the sticks.

Our faith in Dortmund is also justified by the inclusion of a couple of their main protagonists as Jurgen Klopp’s side look to book a place in the last eight. The Bundesliga side play host to Shakhtar after a 2-2 draw last time round and, having won all three of their group games at home, are the favourites to progress here. We expect goals from both sides, though, and have opted for Marco Reus and Robert Lewandowski for the hosts, with Henrik Mkhitaryan selected for his role in “the hole†for the visitors.

Somewhat unsurprisingly, we’ve doubling up on Juventus for their home clash with Celtic. The Serie A outfit are 3-0 up from the first leg and will be keen to avoid any pitfalls – with no need to go on the offensive, we reckon they’ll keep it tight and a home clean sheet looks a likely outcome. Giorgio Chiellini and Stephan Lichtsteiner, who is classified as a defender but is likely to be fielded on the right of the midfield five, get the nod for tomorrow night’s match in Turin.

Although Zlatan Ibrahimovic is sidelined through suspension, PSG still have plenty of big-money buys more than capable of turning Valencia over in their home game tomorrow. Carlo Ancelotti’s side are 2-1 up from the first leg and will be looking to Javier Pastore to produce, while Alex’s propensity for goals from the back also earns the former Chelsea man the nod. With a spare place in our XI up for grabs, Valencia’s right-back Joao Pereira is selected for his attacking sensibilities.

they say that. but that's only cos they idiots. with 10 i guess you put yer wellbeing on the line moreso in the knowledge that you be a man down and can rely less on your teammates as one of em done got up and vamoosed. thereby it becomes more of a personal crusade to keep your goal intact. spread out over ten players it be a powerful motivation and oftentimes effective. but easier? never. all a psychological thang

Well I agree somehow. We defended with 10 men for about an hour against Barcelona last season, and did quite well, though you need some time to get things right when a player has just been sent off. In that match against Barcelona as well, we conceded 2 goals just after the sending off, and then defended pretty well.

Can i ask how you feel about Diego Lopez punching Vidic in the head? Totally unintentional but a punch to the head, no doubt. By the same rational that should be a sending off, no?

not for something so unintentional. they do crowd the refs though. just thought sergio ramos was taking the piss a bit. no other madrid player thought it was a red. you can tell mourinho didn't.

If you are going to make a post stating that you abhor 'lad' rubbish, try not to have a grav of a female with oversized breasts.

It pretty much devalues your original comment.

If you are going to insinuate that girls also like breasts in an attempt to cover up your 'laddish' behaviour, don't do it.

It will have the exact opposite effect 😉

Not insinuating about girls at all, having a shapely and attractive female as an avatar isn't anything exclusive to this new "lad" subculture. The appreciation of the female form has been a constant ever since man could draw on cave walls. To attribute my avatar to solely lad behaviour is incredibly short-sighted 😉

If you want to keep trying to wriggle out of a situation, then by all means go ahead.

No wriggling, Mr. Unreal, just telling it how it is 😉 The female form has inspired poems, paintings, song, etc.. Centuries before the inception of laddish behaviour, and that strangely popular misogynistic subculture. To attribute my choice of avatar as lad culture is way off the mark and a faux pas. I now think the Advice Mallard is now on par with Dear Deidre and Mystic Meg in terms of reputation.. That's retirement territory 😛

I'm thinking of doing Mata to Gerrard tonight to beat the rises, this would allow me to take out Sturridge for Rooney when the time comes. This sound like a good idea? My team is:-

        Begovic / Federici
        Baines / Davies / Harte / Demel / Clyne
        Bale / Mata / Michu / Walcott / Noble
        Sturridge / Suarez / Lambert

don't think united will have a better chance of winning champions league for another few years
        because:

        1) No giggs
        2) barca look to be going out
        3) upcoming teams like BVB will continue to improve
        4) real madrid won't miss that many chances in a home leg again for a while.

2)declining as well i.e. xavi declining + no defence
          3) BVB are a selling club and like lyon just won't be able to keep finding gems, bayern will be strong though

Nani is controlling the ball not kicking out at anyone. The player ran into the boot of Nani.

If intent doesn't matter here or whether the player is aware of his opponent or not, bringing the ball down in the air has to be outlawed if that's the case regardless of an opponent being near him. It's hilarious.

You're a teapot. I'm bored debating this with people who are so clearly in the wrong and want to point people to the rules. The same rules which seem to be interpreted differently by each referee.

Thats not my problem. The fact remains its against the rules to kick other people in the chest with your studs out. True or false? How other referees handle the situation has got nothing to do with how todays match official handled it. And please, refrain from namecalling and judging my football knowledge.

He didn't kick him in the chest, he made contact mainly with his arm!

If anything, Arbeloa ran into Nani's outstretched leg 😛

As A ManU fan i will accept that it was a red card. But the thing that annoys me is that refs on a whole aren't consistent. Do you remember pool vs manu in 2011, when carragher gave nani a massive gash, yet only a yellow card. In European competitions the rules seem much harsher but in the BPl they seem more relax. FIFA need to impose one rule for all leagues and matches across the world. rant over.

Anyone who has played football knows that it wasn't a red card. Those that don't know the game may think otherwise. Keanes comments were odd and probably link to something historic with Fergie.

What about the fact that RVP was offside in the build up to the united goal? Would people who have played football have known that..just checked on replay to confirm

Yeah alot of non players on here by the sound of things. Some really weak arguments. I said that about Keane earlier. He has an agenda and a huge chip on his shoulder.

Last post about the sending off I promise!

Nani seems to extend his foot slightly into Arbeloa, which made the challenge look a lot more malicious. I think that probably influenced the referee quite a lot
