With the Fantasy Football Scout Private Pool still open to entry and with TotelFootball giving away a free £10 for all new registrations, there’s still plenty of opportunity to get involved before tonight’s big Old Trafford clash. Trying our best not to get too distracted by the United vs Madrid tussle, we take a look at the TotelFootball player list to give you our view on the runners and riders for second legs of the last sixteen.

As per the rules of the competition, our team must be lined up in a 4-4-2 formation, with a further four warming the bench in a 15 man squad. You can pick up to two players per team, though if you exceed this allocation, you will be deducted five points per player over that quota.

With only eight teams to choose from, striking a balance is tricky. If you choose to go without points hits, you’ll need two players from seven teams and one player from the remaining club. The deadline is 7.45pm, though, meaning we can tinker with our picks for tonight’s two games after the official squad lists are rolled out – a real advantage for those favouring the hands-on approach.

Last 16: Week 3 Selections

Having assessed the lay of the land after the first leg encounters were played out three weeks ago, we’re leaning towards three of the four home sides. PSG, Juventus and Dortmund all supply our starting XI with a couple of players apiece as they look to clinch a place in the final eight.

Real Madrid arrive at Old Trafford on the back of two successive wins over Barcelona – confidence is high right now and we fancy Jose Mourinho’s men to prevail tonight. The script almost seems written for Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to spoil Sir Alex Ferguson’s evening, while Angel Di Maria’s creativity could also prove the hosts’ undoing. As mentioned above, with only two players per team allowed without points hits, our options are somewhat limited across the four games and we’ve opted for David De Gea ‘s save point potential between the sticks.

Our faith in Dortmund is also justified by the inclusion of a couple of their main protagonists as Jurgen Klopp’s side look to book a place in the last eight. The Bundesliga side play host to Shakhtar after a 2-2 draw last time round and, having won all three of their group games at home, are the favourites to progress here. We expect goals from both sides, though, and have opted for Marco Reus and Robert Lewandowski for the hosts, with Henrik Mkhitaryan selected for his role in “the hole†for the visitors.

Somewhat unsurprisingly, we’ve doubling up on Juventus for their home clash with Celtic. The Serie A outfit are 3-0 up from the first leg and will be keen to avoid any pitfalls – with no need to go on the offensive, we reckon they’ll keep it tight and a home clean sheet looks a likely outcome. Giorgio Chiellini and Stephan Lichtsteiner, who is classified as a defender but is likely to be fielded on the right of the midfield five, get the nod for tomorrow night’s match in Turin.

Although Zlatan Ibrahimovic is sidelined through suspension, PSG still have plenty of big-money buys more than capable of turning Valencia over in their home game tomorrow. Carlo Ancelotti’s side are 2-1 up from the first leg and will be looking to Javier Pastore to produce, while Alex’s propensity for goals from the back also earns the former Chelsea man the nod. With a spare place in our XI up for grabs, Valencia’s right-back Joao Pereira is selected for his attacking sensibilities.

Stranger things have happened. And ok, technically "in the Champions League", but in common parlance "in Europe".

        Silver linings...

Of course, geographically, they're all in Europe.

it's the fear factor, once he's gone i don't think they'll be that consistant. I don't know any other manager that has that.

They've used wingers... they've used diamond... they've had just about every system they've ever played under their belt. That's why they've scored so many goals and got so many wins I think, they are able to unlock any defence.

Now that United are out and Sturridge is apparently fit, I'm keeping RVP (for the short-term at least) and considering how to use my other FT this week.

Onuoha is dead wood and swapping him would allow me to play 4-4-2 (team below).

You guys reckons it's worth the transfer? I wouldn't have any moves that I'd be desperate to make for GW30 and obviously I'll wait until Friday/Saturday for team news before doing it. My options are Ricky Martain (double NOR GW29) or Clint Hill

    Bunn

    Enrique Wilson Harte ???

    Michu Sissoko Bale Puncheon

    Sturridge Lambert

Me neither, but it is basically anywhere between 1-6 more points this week (barring OGs or RCs of course).

It also give me a playable defender in GW34 when my current defenders have bad fixtures (although I might have swapped them by then!)

Or do you reckon I should just play 10 and save the FT for another DGWer? I already have Szcesney, Zaba, Wally and RVP and I'll have at least 3 weeks to get in more.

The only differences I can see between the 2 are:

QPR this week spreads the risk

I could play Martin in GW36 but not Hill (not sure if I will need to of course)

Martin is £0.1m cheaper and carries more goal threat.

Is it even worth using the transfer though...

Don't want one. Not worth the money IMO. Already have Zaba and Enrique so only need 3 players rotating for one spot (ignoring this week of course), hence me primarily looking at cheap defenders with a good fixture this week.

going to swoop in, give my opinion just like that scamp roy keane who dared to have one, and swoop out.
    1) i'd have given nani a yellow, but considered red, flirted with it, looked for an orange card, realise i didn't have one and given a yellow. (man utd unlucky / madrid lucky)
    2) i'd have given real madrid a penalty for rafael's handball, then due to letter of the law for handball on the line a harsh red for rafael, harsh in that there was no real cheating intent there on his part. however intent is irrelevent to the rule, he made himself illegally a bigger barrier (basically arms up and out), whether by accident or not. (man united lucky / madrid unlucky)
    3) near the end i thought evra could have had a pen, a bit of a soft one but i see enough in it. (man utd unlucky / madrid lucky)

the khedira and ramos handball shouts don't even merit discussion

Right, before I catch the train...

Trying to bash together a decent Shortlist of midfielders for this week (obviously we have limited options)

I have sissoko, Michu and Bale so need one to plug the gap. LFC have a tricky tie for LFC so I'm edging away from Gerrard or Courhino (yet to be proven) so who does that leave us with...

    THE SHORTLIST.

    Sess ?
    AJ?
    Snodgrass ?

You are keep Baines over Fellaini? This is why you are not top of the scout league 😉

Joking aside... I would / am ditching Baines.. don't have Fellaini but for me the options are Walcott / Mata or Baines out...

If you must get Fellaini out then I would punt on Coutinho / Sess.. Coutinho looked good as I am sure you know

Was planning on getting Rooney for GW30 but ever since the lineups last night, Phil McNulty has been convinced that it means Rooney is out of favour and will leave in the summer.

I can't see any truth in that. Rooney's still a fine pick over RVP for the daring, right?

Hmmm, I see what you mean but you would have said that for whole season and it hasn't harmed Rooney's point production so far. Or does Kagawa's reboot make it more troublesome?

It is Welbeck's ability to hold up the ball. Makes Kagawa possible, and negates Rooney's all round game less necessary.

Double Pool attack, and 2 strikers at that. Could use that 3rd striker spot to go for a differential and spread the coverage.

I see no other mid-priced striker as a better option than Sturridge for the foreseeable. Lambert hasn't the greatest fixtures, Benteke plays for Villa, Fletcher is, well, Fletcher and Lukaku still has a few question marks over his head.

Add to that that Suarez, is Suarez...

Exactly. Suarez is all you need. He covers most of Pool's points.

With the Sturridge money, I'd personally go Lukaku. In form, nailed, and on pens. Same with Lambert, but yeah his fixtures are tough. However, we've seen that he's relatively fixture-proof.

Another great 3rd striker pick from GW30 onwards: Kone

I think it suits Suarez more to be central, and that will only happen if it's a 4-2-3-1 or if Sturridge isn't playing.
