Our late-week regular is rolled out this afternoon, as we cast on eye over the goings-on at the top of the Scout League. As always, we assess the busy transfer market ahead of the weekend deadline, with plenty forward lines being restructured now Gameweek 29 is done and dusted:

Scout League Standings

We have a new leader in the Scout League this week after the six-fixture headache that was Gameweek 29. Sanjeev Karki climbs to the summit after racking up 65 points last time out, with a front three of Luis Suarez, Christian Benteke and Loic Remy returning 27 points between them. Captain Moussa Sissoko and Gareth Bale combined for 18 points in midfield, while Mathieu Debuchy, Jose Enrique and Russell Martin all delivered at the back as Sanjeev moved to second in the overall standings on 1909 points.

After a lengthy residence at the top, Kelvin Travers slips to second after registering 48 points in Gameweek 29. While Sanjeev was able to call upon 11 players, Kelvin had 10 taking the field, with captain Sissoko and Bale joined by Steven Gerrard, Steven Fletcher, Luke Shaw and Michael Turner in picking up the points. Kelvin sits on 1900 points, eight overall.

In third position is Inge Larsen, courtesy of a 58 point return last weekend. The decision to hand Suarez the armband paid off with 24 points, while Bale, Sissoko, Martin and Papiss Cisse were the key performers as Inge climbed to 13th overall, on 1,888 points.

Evs’ strong season show little sign of abating – the site regular is a non-mover in fourth after a 53 point showing in Gameweek 29. Captain Suarez, Bale, Sissoko and Mark Bunn were relied upon to produce as Evs moved to 15th in the overall standings on 1,888 points.

Finally, Paul O Gorman completes the top five after a 51 point return last weekend. Captain Bale was joined by Suarez, Sylvain Marveaux, Shaw and Debuchy as Paul slid to 16th in the overall pecking order, with 1,887 points to his name.

Our top five keep Fantasy Football Scout at the top of the best leagues, with our lead now down to just four points over the FFS Members league in second. Once again, Julian Ziparro leads the way in the Members league after a 53 point return in the Gameweek gone by. Captain Suarez, Bale, Sissoko, Marveaux and Martin were his main protagonists as he moved to 1,932 points overall – first in the overall standings, with a 23 point advantage over his nearest competitor, Scout League number one Sanjeev Karki.

For contributors, Chris Atkinson moved to top spot after playing a wildcard last weekend. His haul of 73 points was helped by Norwich defensive duo Bunn and Martin, with Bale, Gerrard, Sissoko, Remy and captain Suarez all boosting his tally to 1,793 points overall.

Market Trends

Gareth Bale and Robin Van Persie are the two most popular players this week. The duo have been snapped up by 23,000 Fantasy managers ahead of home clashes with Fulham and Reading respectively, with both likely to vie for the armband in many a Fantasy team. Three back-to-back double figure hauls has Luis Suarez next in line for attention, with 21,000+ picking up the Liverpool forward for the trip to Southampton.

Forward lines are quickly being restructured as Fantasy managers look for alternatives after a reduced Gameweek 29. Aside from Van Persie and Suarez, four other front men have seen more than 15,000 transfers in – Romelu Lukaku, Carlos Tevez, Christian Benteke and Loic Remy have all received significant investment prior to Saturday’s deadline.

In midfield, Juan Mata (14,000) and Marouane Fellaini (12,000) are next in line behind Bale, despite the Everton man moving to nine bookings for the season – if he is cautioned in any of his next four, Fellaini receives an automatic two-match ban. The cut-price appeal of Andros Townsend and Sylvain Marveaux has proven popular, which Liverpool duo Philippe Coutinho and Stewart Downing have picked up around 8,000 new owners apiece.

At the back, investment in United’s options is increasing after four successive clean sheets. David De Gea has received over 16,000 transfers in – considerably more than the second most popular keeper, Mark Bunn, with 6,000 by comparison. Rafael (13,000) and Patrice Evra (7,000) are first and third for defenders, with Jan Vertonghen separating the pair after his double for Tottenham at Anfield last Sunday.

Stoke’s poor defensive record is highlighted when casting an eye on the transfers out. Asmir Begovic and Ryan Shawcross are top of the most unwanted lists, with 10,000 and 12,000 owners parting company with the Potters pair. Michu’s recent drought has persuaded over 19,000 to cast off the Spaniard, after he scored in just one of his last nine appearances, while injury concerns to the likes of Aaron Lennon and Adel Taarabt have seen plenty trade them out. Theo Walcott has departed 15,000 teams – a strange one, given his upcoming double.

Up top, Rickie Lambert has been shipped out in huge numbers. Over 44,000 have sold the Southampton striker after back-to-back blanks but with three home games in four, he still has the platform to prosper. Surprisingly, Van Persie is second ahead of a home match with Reading. Over 11,000 have shed their teams of the Dutchman, with Daniel Sturridge and Adam Le Fondre also sold on by similar numbers.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Going with Rooney and RVP is way too risky IMO. My reasoning is:

    1. United have not been getting high scores. Even SAF is mindful of this and hopes for a change till the end of the season. So you are hoping for 2/3 goals a game spread between the two.

    2. Cost. 25m + on two players in the same forward line. Whereas one + a mid priced forward allows a stronger midfield for the upcoming DGW's.

    3. One may be rotated with the other. Unlikely but could happen.

    4. If both do play, Rooney will play deeper, in a CAM position best covered by a MF slot.

Solution? -- For me it is RVP/Rooney Suarez and a mid-priced forward (rotate between Lambert/Lukaku/Benteke, etc depending on form/fixtures)

Regards to point 1. If they cost so much and are unlikely to get that many goals, why are we buying either of them?

The potential for goals is there. For me, you have to have United attacking cover, they are the league leaders for a very good reason, I just wouldn't have both in the hope they share the points.

Aye, it is a 1/2 week gamble for me. My thinking being, United are the most attacking team in the league, and Reading defence is poor. No Federici either. I love having my 3 United strikers this week.

Regards to point 4. Why bother with Rooney at all then? And why has Rooney tended to outscore RVP when they do play together? And who is this MF slot you intend to cover him with?

I sit in the RVP camp, so wouldn't get Rooney for this reason. RVP is the centre forward, not Rooney.

Any CAM (Bale, Walcott, Michu, etc...) You could have 5 MF's who offer similar potential. Rooney is priced based on being he main Utd striker from last year and the source of goals. Not so this year.

Rooney will get you points, he may even outscore RVP on occasion, so either player is a must have for me, just not both.

They both drift in and out of positions to be fair, especially at home. And FPL-wise Rooney is the player on form atm. RvP has looked decent, but has i think 1 goal in the last 8-9 games, which is horrible.

Sturridge has been raring to go for a while now. In the meantime, Suarez has painted the town red and all managers without him have dropped like a stone. Nevertheless I would still play him ahead of Walcott.

I've seen such a lot of people saying 'bench Sissoko' this week.

I understand that it might be an option for some but I don't get why it's such an obvious move - in-form attacker against Wigan, who have conceded 13 goals in their last 4 home games.

Can anyone explain why it's such a no-brainer to bench him?

I don't think it's a no brainer, but Wigan are showing some signs. A couple of clean sheets, on the road against Everton in the Cup and against Reading in the league. I know they weren't home fixtures, but it doesn't really make sense that they'd continue to be so bad at home if they're playing so well away. I'm starting Sissoko, but I don't think @ Wigan is as easy a fixture as it looks.

OK, that helps to see why some might waver. I've also been reminding myself that in this fixture last year (around the same sort of time, oddly enough) with Cisse and Ben Arfa at the height of their powers, Wigan thrashed them 4-0.

Still don't get the unequivocal response.

Hey guys, anything else I should do to this team? (Transferred in RVP, 0 FT left)

    Begovic (Cerny)

    Martin R.--Samba--Davies (Clyne, Harte)

    Walcott--Michu--Sissoko--Mata--Bale

    Suarez--RVP (Pog)

I am thinking if I should do Davies-->Baines for a 4 pt hit?

I've got a transfer in mind for next gameweek so even if I bring it Baines next week for his favourable fixture vs. Stoke it will still be for a 4 pt hit. And since it is a long term transfer until at least his DGW 33, should I go ahead and do the transfer?

I can't see Swansea keeping many clean sheets the rest of the season because they've got difficult fixtures and also Davies might not be nailed on anymore because Taylor is back.

Comments and suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks! 🙂

I think Clyne should provide enough options to cover your back. I don't think a 4pt hit for Baines is worth the shot. At most, I'd probably be looking at Evra, though heard of claims of him suffering from fatigue.

Utd are not confirmed to have DGW 33 yet- Baines will definitely have a DGW 33.

Do you not think I should bring him in at any time before the DGW?

Fair point with the DGW. This is my perspective.

I wouldn't invest in a 7.0 to 7.5m defender for DGW. The probability of them scoring an assist or a goal is less likely than a DGW midfielder or forward. I would instead take the money and put it all in on DGW attackers or form players. If any, the cheapest defender for the DGW for the cleanies.

DGW attackers, including on-form midfielders have been gold this season.

    Suarez (vc) – RVP (c)

    Benteke RVP(c) Sturridge

Probably used my FT somewhat unnecessarily on Lambert > Benteke - slightly regret not saving it now. 50/50 on N’zogbia or Sissoko atm, know I already have Benteke but bought N’Zogbia in for a 2 week punt, would be annoying to bench him

But yeah, I'm not going near a West Ham forward, Mirallas/Giroud could be decent punts, but I wouldn't necessarily sell any of yours for them. But Rooney/RVP are too much for me to resist.
