Our weekly look at the goings-on in the Sky Sports game is rolled out again this afternoon. As always, we cast an eye over the Scout League’s main protagonists, where the leader made significant ground in his quest for the overall crown last weekend. We also analyse the recent trends in the transfer market and check in with Fenners and Merse ahead of tonight’s fixture with the Fantasy Football Club.

The Scout League

With his top spot threatened last week,Chris Pearce turned in a storming performance to sprint away from the chasing pack. Chris’ side “UtakaDefoeKingPearce” was just 13 points clear at the summit prior to the weekend’s fixtures but is now 45 points ahead of Paul McAnulty in the race for the Scout League title. Paul’s “Housewives Favourite” is a further 31 points ahead of Chris Tuck’s third-placed “Vuvuzela Symphony”, while Simon Davis’ “Nags Head Rovers” and Pascal Evans’ pair of Covport teams are tucked in just behind.

Chris Pearce’s Gameweek not only helped establish a solid lead over the rest of the Scout League, it boosted his chances of finishing first in the overall standings. Although Chris remains third overall, he is now just 37 points behind Simon Ward at the summit in the race for the Sky Sports crown and £25,000 top prize – having approached last weekend some 85 points behind Ward, he’s clearly picking up momentum at the right time.

The Scout League now have seven managers in the overall top 20 rankings – as a result, we remain the top Private League on show, extending our lead from 10 to 15 points over our nearest rival.

A reminder that if you’re playing the Sky Sports game and have yet to join our league, you can still sign up to the FFScout League with this Pin: 8004519. We have a home cinema system, worth £600, available to the winner.

Market Trends

Five goals in his last four appearances has made Dimitar Berbatov the most sought-after player in the Sky Sports game this week. With a double Gameweek just around the corner, the 7.5 priced Fulham forward has been party to 5.12% of all transfers in ahead of Sunday’s trip to Newcastle – over the last five weeks, the Bulgarian has racked up 31 points, the third highest tally of any player.

Gareth Bale was second most popular prior to last night’s turn of events at White Hart Lane. The Welshman had been subject to 4.94% of all transfers made but, having been stretchered off against FC Basel with an ankle injury, is almost certainly out of this weekend’s home clash with Everton and has a blank Gameweek 33 to follow.

With a home game against West Ham on Sunday afternoon, Liverpool duo Luis Suarez and Steven Gerrard are amongst the top five transfer targets this week. Suarez has racked up more points (45) than any player in the last five Gameweeks and, while Gerrard is fifth for this respective statistic over the featured period, his 28 points is greater than any midfielder.

Robin Van Persie, on the other hand, has been the third most unpopular player ahead of the Manchester derby. Only the suspended Marouane Fellaini and injured Theo Walcott have been sold on by more managers, with the Dutchman part of 5.62% of all transfers out. While Van Persie’s recent goal drought is clearly an issue, his owners still had plenty faith as United rolled up to Sunderland last Saturday lunchtime – over 23% handed him the armband, with Suarez second most popular captaincy pick (9%) and Chelsea’s Eden Hazard (6%) further back in third.

The Fantasy Football Club – Tonight 10pm

Chris Coleman is the guest on tonight’s edition of the Fantasy Football Club. The Wales boss joins Fenners and Merse from 10pm on Sky Sports One, with a certain Tottenham winger’s ankle injury sure to be discussed.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

There was a reason Mata was taken off yesterday. He'll definitely start.

    Even thinking of captaining him.

I think he'll start too, but his stats have been too mediocre of late for me to captain him. He could also be taken off after 60 minutes or so if Chelsea are winning.

He will be rested for our game in Russia due to an important FA cup game. So he could play even 90 against Sunderland.

So if I went for Gerrard I would be priced out of getting Fellaini AND Walcott (if needs be)

I don't like this as it's restricting my options greatly and I do believe if Wally is fit I'll want him in.

So it has to be cheaper and even Silva restricts me from that freedom.

That's why I'm looking at a lower price and I'm seeing Cabaye or Sissoko as the best option and that means I don't double up on Liverpool.

I'm swaying towards Cabaye after looking at his stats and they are very strong, particularly at home. And they have 3 home games in 4 coming up now.

Add to that he has free kicks, corners and pens. So there are arguably more opportunities for him to score points over Sissoko.

I honestly can't see any better options even if you factor in DGWer midfielders...Gervinho isn't assured of starts, Arteta isn't showing as strong stats as Cabaye and I wouldn't want to triple up on Arsenal mids, the other options Osman (I'd rather Fellaini/Pienaar and his fixture isn't good this week), Duff (meh) and Nolan (awful form and difficult DGW fixtures)

So in that bracket I'm seeing Cabaye as the best option for me, but maybe Sissoko is equally a good option.

Thoughts on this predicament? Thanks for reading

Cabaye's points are reliant on set pieces and long range strikes. He plays much deeper than Sissoko, and rarely gets into the box at all.

I can see the attraction of Cabaye, but prefer Sissoko myself as the best option in our midfield.

Also, you talk of stats, what stats are you using? Try looking at shots in the box or positional data.

I know he doesn't take a lot of shots in the box. I'm aware of his style. But neither does Gerrard and he costs 3m more and as I've highlighted, he restricts future transfer movement significantly. I could even use Cabaye as a 5th mid eventually which is quite convenient.

I've looked at all the games since he has returned. I know there's an element of luck in set pieces etc but a) he is brilliant at free kicks b) he has monopoly on the set pieces and c) the penalties is a nice bonus.

Plus he has been creating chances (often more than 3 in a lot of games since his return)

        That's what I'm going by.

I like Sissoko too but from looking at the stats Sissoko has actually been less impressive for all round attacking contributions in my opinion.

Not a bad option but for 2m extra you can get a genuine goal threat in Cabaye/Sissoko and better fixtures, I like Coleman but an assist is probably the best you can hope for. He's a handy 5th mid though. I just think since I have the cash I might as well get some higher goal threat

It will be interesting to see how will be reclassified into a new position next year. Of the obvious names Michu, Coleman, Mierellas, Agbonlahor, Ruiz, Gouffran, Rodriguez, Gardner, Rose, Boyce who do you think will start next year in another position? Most of these players it would help a ton (i.e. Mierellas, Agbonlahor, Ruiz, Gouffran, Rodriguez if they were midfielders in the FPL game)

Anybody interested in Kevin Nolan? I wouldn't play him this week but he'd be part of a -4 to get Suarez in - don't think I dare go without Luis when the other captaincy choices look as dodgy as they do.

So if i do Benteke to Suarez I only have 6.5m for a midfielder which leaves slim pickings.

It is, but I'd be able to bench him this gameweek and just play him in the double and the good fixtures after that.

Got Sissoko and Townsend who I am happy to play

I like him, although Carroll is out this week.

Usually nailed on (subject to his toe injury).

Ill probably do Bale > Nolan, as it allows me to get Rooney next wk.

Nolan would be the actual Bale replacement, although in theory it would be Suarez replacing him as he is who the funds would be used for.

Evening gents. Thinking of taking a punt and taking Bale out for Gervinho. Would leave me money to do Sissoko + Hill > Fellaini and Baines next week

Bale + Sissoko + Hill OUT

Gervinho + Fellaini + Baines IN

So over 2 weeks it would cost me 8 points but leaves me 8 DGW players. No other midfield options seem attractive enough to me. Hazard or Silva maybe but would rather a DGW option now then possibly bring them in later.

Worth it? Will Podolski challenge Gervinho for starts?
