We take our weekly assessment of the goings-on in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game to find that the community’s grip on the race for title of champion has strengthened further. As always, we take a look at the top five in the Scout League – with a significant change in the pecking order – and analyse the transfer activity, with the market that’s somewhat slow after the hectic activicty of the double Gameweek trading.

Scout League Standings

Thereโ€™s a real shake-up at the top of the Scout League as Kelvin Travers moves ahead of the pack after scoring 87 points in Gameweek 33. Kelvin picked up 32 points from captain Robin Van Persie, while Leighton Baines, David De Gea, Michael Turner, Juan Mata and Steven Gerrard all produced six points or more as he moved onto 2,148 points – enough to clinch top spot in the overall standings.

In second position is former world number one Julian Zipparo. He falls after a 72 point Gameweek, with his decision to captain Marouane Fellaini over Van Persie proving costly. Wojciech Szczesny, Guy Demel and Glen Johnson chipped in along with Mata and Baines as Julian registered 2,142 points overall โ€“ he is also second in the world.

Weโ€™ve a new entry at number three. Matt Martyniak racked up 84 points last time out, with captain Van Persie leading the charge. West Ham duo Jussi Jaaskelainen and Guy Demel combined for 10 points, while Baines and Mata, along with Bacary Sagna and Jose Enrique, all produced. True to form, Matt is also third in the overall rankings and has 2,132 points accrued so far.

In fourth position is Evs – a familiar name on the comment boards โ€“ after an 86 point haul. He also handed Van Persie the armband, while Baines, De Gea and Sagna were also joined by single Gameweek options Eden Hazard and Adrian Mariappa as Evs climbed to fifth overall, with 2,118 points.

Sanjeev Karki completes the top five after a 66 point return in Gameweek 33. He captained Theo Walcott and also had Olivier Giroud on hand for a combined 27 points, while Van Persie, Demel, Jaaskelainen and Enrique all boosted his tally as Sanjeev ended the week on 2,112 points โ€“ enough to sit sixth in the overall standings.

With our top five all sitting in the worldโ€™s top six, thereโ€™s no surprise to see that we’ve extended our lead at the top of the “Best Leagues” to 19 points over our nearest rival. Once again, the FFS Members league sits in second position, with Julian and Evs joined by MP, Dan Jones and Jimmy Smith in our top five.

For Contributors, Rate My Team guru, Professor Chris Atkinson, remains top after a 64 point haul last week. He took a 16 point hit and doubled up on the Everton defence, with Baines and Sylvain Distin combining for 30 points, while Arsenal trio Santi Cazorla (captain), Jack Wilshere and Giroud produced 27 points between them as Chris moved to 801st in the overall rankings.

Market Trends

Midfield seems to be the most popular area for restructuring this week, with Michu the most transferred in player thus far. After his blank last weekend, the Swansea man has earned over 21,000 new owners and also has a double Gameweek 36 on the horizon โ€“ surprisingly, of the top five most acquired midfielders, only Shaun Maloney has a double left. The 5.0 priced Wigan man has been picked up by around 9,000 managers, less than Marouane Fellaini (17,000), Stephane Sessegnon (13,000) and Theo Walcott (10,000).

Up top, Robin Van Persie leads the way after scoring in both his appearances over Unitedโ€™s double. The Dutchman has earned over 9,000 new owners prior to Mondayโ€™s home match with Villa, with Carlos Tevezโ€™s strong recent form (four goals in six) allied with a double Gameweek making the City forward next in line. Further down, a trio of mid-price options are also picking up in popularity โ€“ Rickie Lambert, Christian Benteke and Olivier Giroud have been acquired by 6 -7,000.

Fantasy managers have been slow to replenish their backlines so far this week. Norwichโ€™s Michael Turner is the most popular defender โ€“ over 6,000 have snapped up the Canaries centre-half, who has three home games in five to play out the season. West Ham pair Joey Oโ€™Brien (5,000) and Jussi Jaaskelainen (4,000) have been acquired for a similar reason, while Tottenhamโ€™s Jan Vertonghen and Everton duo Leighton Baines and Phil Jagielka have all earned plenty new ownership, with Vertonghenโ€™s recent attacking exploits and upcoming double furthering his potential.

In terms of transfers out, Gareth Bale leads the way. Over 17,000 have sold the Welshman with doubts still surrounding his availability for Tottenhamโ€™s clash with City on Sunday, while elsewhere in north London, Arsenal pair Gervinho and Santi Cazorla have been sold by 13,000 and 9,000 respectively after failing to produce in the Gunnersโ€™ double. Moussa Sissoko is also proving unpopular โ€“ the Magpies man has been ushered out of 12,000 sides after a single assist in the last five Gameweeks.

Four back-to-back blanks have persuade over 12,000 to part company with Luis Suarez ahead of Liverpoolโ€™s home game with Chelsea, while Dimitar Berbatov and Wayne Rooneyโ€™s double Gameweek failures have persuaded 10,000+ and 5,000+ respectively to move the duo on. At the back, Stokeโ€™s Asmir Begovic and Ryan Shawcross continues to shed owners in light of one clean sheet in 15, while Arsene Wengerโ€™s decision to field Kieran Gibbs for both Arsenalโ€™s games in the double has seen Nacho Monreal exit over 8,000 squads.

Depends if you prefer a higher expectation or lower variance. I rarely play safe but last week I certainly got badly burnt for this attitude (not buying RVP cost me a lot of points and I knew I could cover my opponents by buying him!)

For overall rank, I'd play double Norwich. in a season these risks pay off because you make better choices in sum BUT with a head to head it is more risky especially if the remainder of your team has the edge

Exactly. If you think the rest of your team is superior, play safe. Double Norwich could also push you over the line if your attackers lose out though!

I notice something about Lukaku that he was handed very little time when playing against the likes of MUN, CHE, LIV, MCI, etc. However, handed more starts than he knew against middle-to-low teams and did exceedingly well. This might suggest he could very well start the next set of games with the exception of the MCI game.

santi imo, these last two weeks is the only time i owned him this season (i think). hes not an ideal FF player i think - despite his unbelievable points total - (compared to Michu, walcott, mata, bale, fellaini(for most of the season).

its like people who play the metro game say,,,if this game really reflected the most talented and game changing players we'd all have different teams. but its not. its about predicting who gets goals/assists/bps or CS - right?

Bunn beats ddg, martin beats sagna(you both bench demel who outscores you both) luiz/hazard get owned by gj/wally and rvp brings it home for you by a distance. no problemo A.F. (highest scoer is snod-g who he benches)

Lukaku not playing v top teams surprises me. I thought he'd have extra incentive because he'd score Brownie points with chelsea if he scored against top 4 contenders (as would the manager re future loans)

Plus I think he can score vs anyone.

    i have defence problem.

Evans (i'm sure he'll play now - vs Villa),
Mertesacker (i have Berbatov so i don't hope he'll get clean sheet, but he's good for set-pieces threat - vs Fulham),
Turner (BAP magnet, in form, and he'll play vs Reading),
Demel (West Ham are in good form recently, and his last assist will turn on his confidence to produce more ๐Ÿ˜† - vs West Ham),
Zabaleta (his style of play to always cut inside to box appealing me - vs Tottenham).

could anyone pick 3 to play please?

currently: Evans Mertesacker Zabaleta (2nd sub: Turner, 3rd Sub: Demel)

    good to go?

      okay, Turner in. ๐Ÿ™‚
but still need to consider between Mertesacker or Zabaleta.

Why did Fulham conceded by John Terry twice? Are those goals from set pieces? (Didn't see the highlight until today) so Mertesacker looks appealing...

Zabaleta will play after rested vs Wigan and will be one of fresh players at next match.

Lebron has locked up all of the "youngest to ____" records.

Lebron = 3 MVPs, and a 4th one coming this season.
                Kobe = 1 MVP

Kobe has more rings, but Lebron is only 27.

Lebron is the most dominant force that the NBA has ever seen at that position.

Kobe is brilliant. Probably top 10 all time. Not one single aspect of the game he is better than MJ, though. Appreciate you like him. But your opinion is not shared by all. So booking Kobe in any spot that high is questionable. Lots of rings, but one MVP. MJ and Lebron will end up miles ahead in that category. Of course, rings count for a lot ...

And obviously Lebron is unbelievable. Best player of the moment, no question. His leaving Cle to win titles will always play against him. But he's going to win a few more. And his all around game might only be matched by Oscar Robertson (not that I saw him play).

In the end, all nice players. Could make most teams. Even the Raptors.

No no no. I assure you I don't rate players by rings - Barkley was a great winner. So was Stockton. Malone choked in important games repeatedly.
He is stil a top 30 player of all time of course, but some people put him as the greatest pf of all time, which is ludacris - I will take Duncan and Barkley ten times over Malone.

i have respect for all the other teams in the PL - even man u (who i naturally hate). Rotation is mainly an issue for them two right? its because they spend enough to pay for 2 teams each good enough to compete in the league. its not fair on smaller teams, they dont go about winning stuff in a way that i can respect. Maybe i'm just bitter...but i always respect man u when they win - SAF plays players i didnt see coming throughout the year every year (not so much this year-although cleverly has impredssed me this year). Half of man u/arsenals team are worldwide known, the other half most fans havent heard of (we on here have, but we know more than almost every football fan) they both have players who were unkown before they played for them. City/Chelsea have 2 teams worth of world class players. Chesea are the worst, the way they own so many - SO MaNY players, throughout europe. It's neigh fair - fuuuuck em yeah? who's with me?

fair enough. I take it you hate the likes of RM, PSG, etc. as well?

I think that bigger clubs should be able to go out and buy some big name players but I agree with you that they should also be looking to develop players as well.

i dont dislike RM - because i really dislike barca

i dont dislike psg - cus i lurv Zlatan and beckham and lavezzi and all the rest of the badmanlegends they have.

I guess it doesnt bother me so much when its in other countries/leagues that i dont follow.

of course they should be able to spend, if you look at how much english teams have spent - or their profit-loss overall stats, Man U spend shed loads. but they have ad the same manager for like forever, they develop players they believe in, they create careers for young players.

OK HERE it is - Man U create careers for young players, Chelsea and Citry kill them off. is that agreeable or too much?

just wondering, why do you dislike barca?

I agree with you (for the most part) about creating vs killing careers. though I think the same could be said about RM for example (Kaka is a prime example, as is Modric I reckon). Varane could be the counter argument for RM though.

I guess you could say that City and Chelsea improve the careers of some young players but those are the careers of players that are already recognized stars. they haven't really developed anyone like you said

I dislike Barca because - no.1 i'm jealous, i don't like to see a team dominating, if I see a team doing too well then I automaticallt dislike them - I think that comes from supporting a team like birmingham - a part of me is just bitter

no.2 my friends who act like they know about football all 'like' barca, because they watch messi and read the daily mail. my point being that people who really care about footy maybe dont want to think that the same team can be the best every year...

no.3 they cheat like there's no tomorrow, obviously we all knopw busquet's game, and we know messi is really a great guy in terms of not trying to win fouls when opposing teams target him like they are the SS in the early days of Warsaw. They foul, dive and complain worse than most teams we watch play, and they so dont need to.

I like the way they handle their money, that the fans get to own shares and what not. but getting sponsered by Unicef was not them supporting the good cause the Unices (can be). Now they're sponsered by Qatar something, right?> like isnt that encouragiung the disgraceful decision to hold an international football tournament in a country where being gay is illegal? where they kbnow FA about european/south american/ african football. where it counts. im drunk, typing too much and not reading back what i wrote - hopefully it makes sense

no.2 *what i meant to add to that is people who dunno about football rate barce because mainly of messi, then also iniesta and xavi. but barca have much more to them, i guess my point there is that casual fans like to think they are watching the best team/player/player combo ever - when it aint.

Zidane, Gazza, Henry - any one of them three >>> Messi

fair enough on all those accounts.

however I don't see how you can apply the idea of dominance to barca and not to other teams. for example, RM and Bayern have been the later stages of the CL the last several years as well. and since the 2000-2001 season Barca have 6 league titles (assuming they win this year) whereas United have 7 (assuming they win this year) and Bayern have 7.

also barca is the prime example of a team developing talent (yes they also buy but they have a big focus on player development)

I agree that Busquets dives way too much! as does the whole team at times though sadly most players tend to dive.

I don't think judging a team based on their sponsors is entirely fair. and they aren't sponsored by Qatar, they're sponsored by the Qatar foundation which actually has good motives. this gives a bit of background into the organization: http://www.fcbarcelona.com/Sponsors/qatar-foundation/detail/card/qatar-foundation

    Hello deadzone,
I am in the States this week and starved of all things fantasy or football.
Can anyone look at my team and suggest some tings?
    It's:

    Jussi (Tremmel)
    Baines Monreal Rafael (Clyne) (Harte)
    Ramirez Fellaini Kagawa Cazorla Gerrard
    Giroud Berbatov Suarez

Guys on my radar: Mata, Ivanhoe, Tevez, Silva, Clichy, Zabs, Adebayor, Vertonghen, Michu

I am thinking - Gerrard > Michu this week?

yeah i'll probably wait a week on bale.

not sure about michu... haven't had him since gw 20 but might be getting him back. maloney is my other main target

well, i dont think this is true. its not that michu is 'fixture proof' in the way bale or rvp are, but he does score in the most unlikely of situations.

if there is a player on fpl, classed as a mid, playing as a lone striker, for a half decent team, you need to own him, no matter fixtures or reasons to play or anything. he's not even that expensive.

With the exception of United players or Michu, if you could bring in one player this week who would it be? I plan on using my WC next week so I might as well use my free transfer. I'm struggling to figure out who might do the most damage this week, fixtures don't seem all that enticing.

The way chelsea play is not good for picking fantasy players, who knows who's gunna get the goals for them

my main tactic is and has always been to try and pick players what who the goals go through - the main goal providers for teams, if they have one (chelsea /city dont). Like RVP, Benteke, Berba, Michu, Fellaini, Bale, Lambert,

sometimes the weaker keepers get good points through saves against the better teams. When i'm choosing between two lower teams keepers, each playing way better teams - exactly as you are now - its about who you think will get the saves (Jaaskelainen)
