[sbu_large_image] Suspensions

The FA have this afternoon announced Luis Suarez will be banned for 10 games following Sundayโ€™s biting incident with Branislav Ivanovic at Anfield. Suarez had accepted a violent misconduct charge yesterday but had argued against this being extended beyond the standard three matches โ€“ an Independent Regulatory Commission met earlier today and has subsequently added a further seven games onto the standard suspension.

The FA have confirmed Suarez has until midday this coming Friday to appeal the additional seven matches, though, while in a statement on the clubโ€™s official website, managing director Ian Ayre would only say:

“Both the club and player are shocked and disappointed at the severity of today’s Independent Regulatory Commission decision. We await the written reasons tomorrow before making any further comment.”

Unless he successfully appeals, then, this means Suarez will play no further part in the current domestic campaign and brings a bitter end to a season that has seen him flourish under the guidance of Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool. The Uruguayan is second only to Robin Van Persie for goals scored, with 23 strikes to the United forwardโ€™s 24 โ€“ the Golden Boot now looks safe for Van Persie, with Gareth Bale (18) his nearest challenger now.

While the Dutchmanโ€™s game time over the remainder of the season is perhaps in question by some – given that Sir Alex Fergusonโ€™s side have the title sewn up – Suarezโ€™s absence for the first six games of next season merely heightens Van Persieโ€™s importance to our Fantasy squads when 2013/14 gets underway. For Liverpool, Daniel Sturridge will now be afforded the chance to lead the line over the final four fixtures this term and the first six games next time round โ€“ the Reds’ remaining matches hands them trips to Newcastle and Fulham, in addition to home showdowns with Everton and QPR.

Indeed, the clash with Harry Redknappโ€™s side makes Sturridge a viable captaincy contender and at just 6.6 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) right now, is a more than budget-friendly alternative for those Fantasy managers shopping around for a Suarez replacement. With a double Gameweek 36 for six other sides, though, plenty will be looking elsewhere as our three man frontlines are quickly restructured for the final sprint over the last few matches.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

The FA stated they are stamping down on violent conduct which includes dangerous tackles. Good finally we can stamp it out of the game. Players can expect hefty bans from here on in.
    Racism however isn't that bad

While I think this is around the area I expected (about 8 games banned) I feel a little uneasy knowing that the reasoning is the FA's crackdown on violence in matches yet Aguero hasn't faced any retrospective discipline for his stamp on Luiz. I can't see how this is not an act of violence

Yes this was the reason. But its a ridiculous rule they need to change because a ref cant issue a ten game ban on the pitch. Its like saying as long as the ref sees it your punishment wont be as harsh. Crazy

Yep. On a related note, I think they should learn from the NBA, when they don't like something they just overrule it, regardless if the ref has seen it or not. This "the ref saw it" excuse is a bit ridiculous to me.

    @ New owners of Defoe:

Are you not afraid that he could be used as super-sub? Adebayor might have been crap in last match (infact overall this season) but he did score few goals recently.. It's true Defoe started the season very well but later when he was given further chances (before he injured) he wasn't impressive.. Besides Defoe was always good at bringing energy to attack in 2nd half & AVB might continue to adapt him in the same way..

Makes sense.....escalation of punishment......very normal in any work place.

Let's face it, if he wasn't a valuable asset to LFC, he would have been sent packing by now. See Barton for similar escalation and pseudo-dismissal.

I think it's completely fair however I do wish the F.A would be more consistent especially where English players are concerned.. Didnt Defoe escape any violent contact charges for his little nibble a few years back? And the comparison between John Terry's and Suarez punishments regarding the race storm was truly laughable and suarez comment wasnt even derogatory. I think if anything it's a lenient punishment but let's see more consistency please.

Don't agree with the length of ban, it should be shorter, especially when Defoe got just a Yellow card for an identical incident. Terry and Suarez bans also show inconsistent the FA are

Didn't realise how much Sissoko had dropped in price. Should I sell for Maloney before he drops again tonight?

Parden my ignorance, but has vertonghen’s recent attackin points come from his time playin as LB or as CB? Walker looked much more attackin than him vs City with verts as CB.
