The FA have this afternoon announced Luis Suarez will be banned for 10 games following Sunday’s biting incident with Branislav Ivanovic at Anfield. Suarez had accepted a violent misconduct charge yesterday but had argued against this being extended beyond the standard three matches – an Independent Regulatory Commission met earlier today and has subsequently added a further seven games onto the standard suspension.

The FA have confirmed Suarez has until midday this coming Friday to appeal the additional seven matches, though, while in a statement on the club’s official website, managing director Ian Ayre would only say:

“Both the club and player are shocked and disappointed at the severity of today’s Independent Regulatory Commission decision. We await the written reasons tomorrow before making any further comment.”

Unless he successfully appeals, then, this means Suarez will play no further part in the current domestic campaign and brings a bitter end to a season that has seen him flourish under the guidance of Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool. The Uruguayan is second only to Robin Van Persie for goals scored, with 23 strikes to the United forward’s 24 – the Golden Boot now looks safe for Van Persie, with Gareth Bale (18) his nearest challenger now.

While the Dutchman’s game time over the remainder of the season is perhaps in question by some – given that Sir Alex Ferguson’s side have the title sewn up – Suarez’s absence for the first six games of next season merely heightens Van Persie’s importance to our Fantasy squads when 2013/14 gets underway. For Liverpool, Daniel Sturridge will now be afforded the chance to lead the line over the final four fixtures this term and the first six games next time round – the Reds’ remaining matches hands them trips to Newcastle and Fulham, in addition to home showdowns with Everton and QPR.

Indeed, the clash with Harry Redknapp’s side makes Sturridge a viable captaincy contender and at just 6.6 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) right now, is a more than budget-friendly alternative for those Fantasy managers shopping around for a Suarez replacement. With a double Gameweek 36 for six other sides, though, plenty will be looking elsewhere as our three man frontlines are quickly restructured for the final sprint over the last few matches.

    Hi mates!

    My current team lineup:

    de Gea (Cerny)

Rafael – Sagna – Wilson (Demel – Davies)

Walcott - Yaya Toure – Michu – Bale © (Maloney)

Van Persie – Tevez (vc) – Berbatov

Already did a -4 hit to bring Bale and Tevez for Fellaini and Suarez.

Planning on bringing Hart (for deGea) and Vertonghen (for Rafael) next week for the DGW.

The thing is that I don’t particularly trust my defence for this week, since Arsenal plays United (and MU might rotate goalkeepers…), so do you think that doing a -8 hit for Hart might be a good idea?

United don't have a need to rotate keepers. Lindegaard gets a medal no matter what as a reserve keeper, the rule of 10 doesn't apply. The only players that may get appearances to get to 10 are Buttner and Powell.

@ Wings of Steel, there is a major differances regards the Barton and Suarez situation, firstly Barton reacted to a situation,ie an deliberate elbow from Tevez, which was never reviewed and went unpunished. His reaction was unacceptable, but occoured because he was provoked. Not a whole lot of differance between a headbott and an elbow. Also QPR effectively washed their hands of him because of his actions deeming it unacceptable behaviour from a player representing the club. Liverpool take the opposite stance, the shocked and disappointed view which has become a trademark of theirs.

Liverpool have supported Suarez because he is by far their best player and a highly valuable asset. Not saying that morally they have acted properly but it was far easier for QPR to ditch Barton. Kudos to them for doing so though.

I think it's a bit much to compare the actions of the clubs with regards Barton and Suarez. QPR were looking for an excuse to hang Barton out to dry.. his face didn't fit with huge and he wasn't indispensable to QPR in the way Suarez is to Liverpool.

Not true, in fact QPR did everything in their power to keep Barton at the club, in a statement from Barton himself he said he only ever went there for the money. He wanted out, and made it impossible for the club to manage him.

I agree somewhat but there are loads of incidents you can pick which are so inconsistent with a 10 match ban.
Suarez is an idiot and deserves a hefty punishment but the FA just shoot themselves in the foot by their decisions which appear to be influenced by the media and they also have a habit of undermining racism.

it's not a null argument, biting is something that humans left behind as they evolved into civilisation and it's totally abhorrent. I'm not defending breaking legs, but tough tackles are part of the game and everyone knows that. Biting is not.

Cantona, just like Rooney, consistently failed on the Big European Nights. As did Ronaldo to be fair on most of the big European nights. Ronaldo is a massively improved player at Madrid.

United were in transition in Europe in the 90's. They had to adapt to the 3 foreigner rule. They still got to a semi final with Cantona, it just wasn't to be.

I have no idea what you're talking about with regards to Ronaldo. He scored in a final.

"He scored in a final"................so did Smicer, didn't make him a European Great.

My point on Ronaldo is that, at United, he was nowhere near the player he now is at Madrid in the really bidg occassions.

Ronaldo was poor in the 2008 semis against Barca and the Final. He didn't influence games like he does now...............in 2008 and in previous seasons with United, his big game performances were full of simulation and petulance, and as someone who followed United since the early 80's, i didn't like it.

He seems to have grown up at Madrid...........

Got to be Cantona - the confidence and swagger that helped the club believe they could win that first title in 26 years.

Then inspired the 'kids' with his on-field attitude, and his attitude in training (always stayed after training to practice when the old guard (Robson, McGrath, Whiteside a bit further back) would be heading to the pub.) Beckham's free-kicks and crossing, for example, would never have been so good without that extra practice.

He was the inspiration for that treble in '99 (even though he was gone by then).

The BIG problem is that the FA can't go back and look at ALL incidents.
FIFA don't want games "retrospectively refereed".............FIFA are totally wrong. Games should be "retrospectively refereed" where violent conduct is concerned, just like they do in rugby.

    It's that simple..............

I'm sick of players getting bans for this and that. They have so much money, there should be a way of making them a) donate loads of money to charity and stop buying fancy cars or b) insist that they pay for anger management/therapy until a doctor deems them suitable to play again.

These x amount of game bans are just silly and arbitrary. You are just banning a guy from playing some games, but you are not getting to the heart of the issue. The likes of John Terry, Suarez should have been ordered to make a public apology in front of a full stadium of people and denounce their actions and explain their reasons. That way they'd feel the shame of it. Banning them for a few football games is trivial.

Liverpool have nothing to do with his behaviour, they just bought an amazing footballer.

What needs to be addressed is Suarez's mental state that he would try to bite someone unprovoked.

    Alright chaps,

I'm wildcarding this week, thoughts and suggested changes for this team?

    Robles / McCarthy
Vertonghen / Dawson (I feel it's worth doubling here especially given Dawson's price) / Nastasic / Wilson / Morrison

Mata or Hazard or Lamps / Bale / Walcott / Fellaini / Maloney
    RVP / Kone / Tevez

0.7 in bank with Mata, enough to do:

GW 36 Fellaini > Michu, 0.0 in bank

Cheers mate, i'll make a decision with that one after Thursday's semi-final game I think.

I would think Walcott but i'm still unsure, having both Mata and Hazard would make an extremely hard benching decision, and it's hard enough already, plus I don't think I can afford. Walcott is also higher in the watchlist and that's usually what I go by anyway 😀

Also would you have Wilson or Ryan Bennett?

And would you have Fellaini and then transfer to Michu or just have Michu from the start? I think I want Fellaini this week especially home v Fulham, and then can make the transfer for GW36.

        Cheers

Probably Bennett over Wilson for me.

If you've got nothing else to use the transfer on, I think Fellaini to Michu looks a decent transfer - only thing I'd say is benching Fellaini is easy enough in GW36 so may solve a problem leaving 2 FTs in GW37 potentially ...

Also, as much as I'd like Hart, I always prioritze strikers > mids > defs > keepers, and if I can't afford a keeper, i'm not going to bust a gut trying to accommodate him. I think I want to keep RVP whilst United are chasing a record points total, and since i'm keeping him, I can't afford Hart, but still have a very cheap DGW keeper in Robles.

    My 10 cents

10 match ban is way over the top 3 to 6 would have been plenty i see far worse incidents where players get badly hurt and no such punishment is dished out.Its just that Suarez/Liverpool is so high profile that that such a over the top ban has been imposed which is not fair to the player or club

John Terry got a 4 match ban to a Suarez 8 match ban by the FA for racial abuse of a fellow professional footballer which is a way worse thing to do than what he done in the Chelsea game under the heat of combat

The FA have shown that they are a inconsistent bunch of wan*ers to be honest not to mention the fact that they did not resend Olivier Giroud red card after reviewing it we all could see that the lad slipped and meant no malice but the FA upheld his red anyway?

I love English football but its going to become sterile if the FA gets its way you need a bit of fight in a game it is a contact sport after all. I leave you of this clip of a Gaelic football mach of a altercation between 2 players where the ref didn't punish either player and just said get on with the game and that was that keeping with the spirit of field sports.

People just don't get it do they?

Suarez continually breaks the rules time after time.

If this was his first incident, then yes, 3 games would have been sufficient.

He needs to learn his lesson, so the FA have given a punishment which will force it home.

3 to 10 is one hall of a jump, though. Does the extra 7 games really hammer the message home more than 4 or 5 games? 4 or 5 would show intent - it shows that this is a worse offence than your 'bog-standard' violent conduct, which is fair enough - but 10 is going to leave the guilty party feeling victimised - and may be counter-productive.

Wasn't the 8 games v 4 games racism ban because he kept abusing Evra throughout the game, whereas Terry's was a one-off in the heat of the moment? That was the FA's argument, anyway.

I thought it was because Suarez admitted it, and Terry was found not guilty in a court of law, hence the retrospective punishments.

Terry did not lye about it like suarez did, and also apoligised while Suarez did not. Suarez also used the world much more times than Terry. I think these are the points that make it reasonable. Suarez also got 7 last time he bit someone, would have been odd if he had gotten less the second time. Dont you agree?

i read that the article you posted there was ripped apart by other journalists as all quotes from Cech were taken from, before the phone call from suarez to ivanovich, right after the final whistle. i dunno the ins and outs of it but thats what i read.

This ain't gaelic games, if some one bit me I would deck them. If one of my mates got into a fight and bit someone he would no longer be my mate. What, give him an early end of season, paid holiday, let Liverpool have his full services next season. What in the name of god does that achieve? He is a vicious, spiteful man, who is protected by the laws of the game.

    Afternoon all

Finally had a good week last week despite having some non scorers (Michu, Townsend, Walcott). Have already brought Tevez in for Suarez but considering a 4ph for Townsend--> Sess.

    Bego (Fed)
    Zaba, Martin R,
Bale (C), Walcott, Michu, Fellaini (VC) (Townsend)
    Benteke, RVP, Tevez

Good to go or Townsend --> Sess for a 4ph?

    Cheers for any input

already used my FT but not happy with my team

    Ddg
    baines jones clark (davies harte)
    michu bale fellaini wally (maloney)
    rvp tevez berbs

    - will clark be fit? my defense is bad and berbs has a tough fixture…so
    A: berbs >> lukaku (-4)
    B: clark >> dawson (-4)
C: do nothing and hope for the best

let me know if you see any ways to improve this team..have 0.2 in the bank.

thinking of getting in hazard next gw for fellaini and probably fund it by downgrading baines
