While we’ve the decadence of a Wembley final to enjoy with our tea, our afternoon football fix is limited to just a single Premier League encounter. Aston Villa host top four chasing Chelsea up in the midlands, in a clash that prompted much consternation from Fantasy managers prior to the teamsheets being announced.

With heavy rotation anticipated in Rafa Benitez’s lineup, the Spanish supremo has, in the main, come good courtesy of a starting XI that ticks many of our boxes.

Eden Hazard is the surprise starter – fit after a minor calf injury, he’s thrown into the midfield along with Juan Mata and Victor Moses. Frank Lampard stats as expected as he chases the club’s goalscoring record, while Oscar is parked on the bench. David Luiz is perhaps major casualty for Fantasy mangers, rested for the midweek Europa League final, it’s John Terry and Gary Cahill in defence at Villa Park, as Branislav Ivanovic is also preserved. As for Villa, they make one forced change: Matt Lowton is ruled out with an thigh injury, paving the way for Eric Lichaj to earn a start at right-back.

Our Dugout Discussion chatroom is now open to steer your real-time thoughts through this one, ahead of tonight’s teatime final.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Has Rafa Benitez been a success as Chelsea boss?

4 points behind United when he came in, manages to scramble into Champions League spots 16 points behind the leaders.

Did well in Europa League, can’t criticise him there.

League Cup, Club World Cup both lost despite being strongest team left in competition in both.

Went out with a whimper in FA Cup.

Theres rotation, and then there's Rafatation. Some of it seems so unnecessary, but then he's the manager, I'm not.

The Southampton game springs to mind, seemed no need to rest Mata who was scoring goals for fun at the time (if my memory serves me correctly)

He cares more about his own CV than the club, hence going full throttle for a EL win over a better placed league finish.

swansea fair enough, corinthians are a very good side in a one off match + chelsea fatigue etc (eg luiz cm was necessity due to injuries and suspensions stretching the chelsea side to the limit).

if he seals top 4 and wins a trophy he's done his job. no shame in losing the semi to man city in the fa cup. chelsea didn't have a realistic chance of winning the title, they were 4 points ahead of man utd after 6 games, then 4 points behind 6 games later when rafa came in, momemntum had changed, fixtures had flipped.

I don't think I could accept allowing a 4 point deficit turn into a 16 point one and narrowly avoid missing out on Champions League football.

He's done the bare minimum, but if that qualifies as a good job to you then fair enough.

you've said in this convo he hasn't won anything? he still can on wednesday.
you've also just said and narrowly avoid missing out on champions league football. they've basically just clinched 3rd today.

it's a good job if they win on wednesday, only the league and champions league really matter for elite clubs, benitez wasn't given a proper crack at either, he's done the next best thing if they win on wednesday.
chelsea have progressed this season, as they should have admittedly with their summer spending, remember 12 months ago newcastle finished above them

He hasn't and isn't going to win any of the competitions that RdM progressed in or left him in. They weren't in the Europa League when he left. That's what I referred to.

I wouldn't say 0 trophies in comparison to 2, or 1 trophy in comparison to 2, is progression. Nor is falling 12 points behind the league summit.

rafa managed one match in the champions league and won it 6-1. how on earth can you make the points that chelsea were still in the champions league when he arrived as some sort of negative

and falling 12 points behind would only be devestating if anyone actually believed chelsea were going to win the league, was clear after 12 games it was between the manchester clubs again.

if chelsea win on wednesday he's done a good job, if they lose it's satisfactory at best. he's leaving anyway so i doubt he'll care, he was expected to work miracles from day 1, no bedding in 3 months, 6 months, season etc, such is chelsea's trigger happy heirarchy

PSG. Doesn't have a great working relationship with Moyes, and 2 attempts to leave in 3 years will be too much for most fans.

I think he is done at United.

As for a foreign move theres no chips peas and gravy in Paris or Munich.

And for a professional sportsman he is in awful nick fitness wise cant see the continent tolerating that.

really hope that Suarez will take Roonie ' Sullivan advice and talk with dr.Peter

since he overtake ,,the rocket'' he is unbeatable and with Suarez amaizing football talent only his brain can stop him to not be in top 5 players on planet
