Romelu Lukaku is rested to the bench as Fernando Torres leads the line in the first match of Chelsea’s double. Oscar proves his differential status by grabbing the opener from his role in “the hole”, while Roberto Soldado opens his Tottenham account with a coolly-converted spot-kick at Selhurst Park.

The Game Changer

While Chelsea eased past Hull at the Bridge, Tottenham’s narrow victory came courtesy of their summer signing from Valencia. Andre Villas-Boas’ side rolled up to Palace without last term’s talisman Gareth Bale and with the likes of Robin Van Persie, Christian Benteke, Rickie Lambert and Daniel Sturridge opening their accounts on Saturday, Roberto Soldado’s 15% Fantasy Premier League (FPL) owners were desperate for a response from their 9.5 investment.

The Spaniard may have looked sluggish but eventually delivered thanks to a smartly converted spot-kick. His manager duly admitted post-match that Soldado’s still lacks “sharpness”. Despite this, the numbers suggest good things to come: Soldado had more shots on target and created more goalscoring opportunities than any Spurs player.

A guaranteed starter, whether in a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1, he now sets his sights on a run of four home fixtures (SWA, NOR, WHM, HUL) and also has trips to Cardiff and Villa in the next eight Gameweeks.

For those eyeing up an exit route for Romelu Lukaku or who simply cannot stomach shelling out 14.0 for Van Persie, Soldado certainly presents an option if he can, as Villas-Boas’ suggests, sharpen up in the weeks to come. Conceivably, he could even become an armband contender over Tottenham’s favourable run.

The Underused

Oscar went into today’s clash firmly in the shadow of Eden Hazard and Juan Mata in terms of FPL ownership. Typically, however, he stepped up to deliver and outscore both. Moved to the role in “the hole” behind Fernando Torres, the Brazilian – with less than 5% ownership – continued the form that saw him score in three of his last five starts in 2012/13 by poking home the opener at the Bridge.

Mourinho has already suggested he is likely to field the playmaking skills of Oscar centrally more often this season but with Mata warming the bench for the entire match, there’s every possibility the Brazilian could be ousted from the XI for Wednesday’s game with Villa, with Jose giving the Spaniard a run-out. Furthermore, the introduction of Marco Van Ginkel and subsequent shift to a 4-3-3 merely compounds the potential headache we could face this season, with Chelsea’s midfield boasting an embarrassment of riches.

The Selection Poser

Jose Mourinho’s first teamsheet of the season has already signposted the Fantasy frustration we can expect up front for Chelsea over the upcoming campaign. Romelu Lukaku was the Blues form player over the summer, racking up five goals and a pair of assist across the pre-season fixtures, and was anticipated by many to get the nod as Mourinho welcomed Hull to the Bridge. Instead, it was Fernando Torres who led the line against the Tigers, earning an assist for Lampard’s stunning dead ball strike after being fouled, before making way for the Belgian on 75 minutes.

Today’s XI will, at least, afford Lukaku’s owners a fair degree of optimism ahead of the midweek visit of Villa. Surely he will now return to the starting line-up on Wednesday against Paul Lambert’s side but with a trip to United and a blank Gameweek 3, it seems the exodus is already underway.

If anyone is doubting Coleman as an FPL option, look at his totals from 2 seasons ago (when he was also a budget defender)

He may not be OOP as such, but Martinez looks like he's given both his full-back license to get forward. Also listen to Coleman's post-match interview. There is more to come yet.

Coleman looks like an easy choice, but I'm having second thoughts.
      Pros:
+ he is cheap and he is going to rise in price fast
+ he is really good for next week [WBA]
      + decent attacking potential
      Contras:
      - [car, CHE, whm, NEW, mci] after [WBA] doesn't look good for clean sheets
      - he won't be getting goals and assists week in week out, and i don't want to be chasing points
      - i have mirallas and intend to keep him long-term, so getting Coleman would mean doubling up on Everton, which is a bit meeeh

It's either him, Dawson, Toure, or Shaw for me

So...was going to transfer Terry to Zabaleta for gw2 as really can't see Chelsea keeping utd out and city much better chance against cardiff of keeping a clean sheet...but Coleman rise tonight is making me think twice, especially if moved to right mid and Everton change to a 343...I'm using wc for gw3 regardless now anyway after a poor start of 59 points with lukaku, hazard, terry and benteke to play in mid week with a random punt on lukaku as captain, what a bad call that was haha!!! Any thoughts on if its worth going transferring for the rises for more funds for week 3 or wether to stick with zaba for points? I'm inclined to points in all honesty but is first fantasy season so thoughts from experienced players wouldn't go amiss. Cheers

I'm not very tolerant of having players lose value early in the season.
At the same time, I was already planning on shipping Lukaku & Cech this week anyway... -8 is too much. Meh.

    Ivanovic -> Kompany/Zabaleta
    Lukaku -> Lambert/Bony

should i split it up over 2 gws? I think Lambert will outscore Lukaku by 4 and the same for komp/zab vs ivanovic

I was thinking about Lambert, but I am a little concerned that Southampton have just signed a new striker. I don't want to get Lambert just to have to get rid of him in a couple of weeks. I have thought about Bony but they have a touch match-up next week. I was thinking about v. Wolfswinkel but all I know about how he did yesterday was that he scored a goal. I am concerned about how nailed on he is if Hooper is healthy.

Ravel Morrison almost 50% to the drop, 1642 NTI ... Didn't know so many people even had him. And I really cannot see why he is top priority to get rid for so many.

Surely the active players wouldnt be doing early transfers, would have 3 chelsea and would want to get rid of the chelsea lads first?!!

Their website is horrendous, I seem to have lost my captain points from Saturday, although not too sure as I have no idea what points anyone got as can't find them on their silly site

Its the same every season, shambles at the start (at least this year it didn't crash). It does all quickly become sorted though, no points lost or anything like that.

Other than the United Swansea game, defenders picked up bonus in every match. 4 at the back to become vogue again?

I'm considering it as an option, can see a lot more casuals getting high scores this year since a lot of them use 4 at the back

We saw 5 clean sheets this gameweek, which I think is a bit higher than average. I'm not sure we can say for sure that defenders will benefit overall just based on the 9 games we've had so far.

Anybody going Ivanovic -> Santon or Debuchy? Newcastle have great fixtures and they are both very attacking.

Yeap. It's between Debuchy and Coleman as Ivan replacement.

I could even get both for Ivan and Mert, but zi am not sure yet.

Today was definitely an improvement on yesterday:

I have to say I was very impressed by Palace today, we showed a lot of heart towards the end, should have nicked an equaliser through Dikgacoi, but all in all a good performance. Great passion from the fans, I can see a lot of wins for us at Selhurst this year.

In FPL terms, I was glad that if anyone was to score against us it would be Soldado, solid 9 points, and a little underwhelmed by the Chelsea game, but can see Lukaku definitely adding to a strong midfielder Chelsea team (Torres was abysmal today). Hazard didn't perform extremely well, but I can see him getting a goal or assist against Villa.

Now at least I'm above the average at 44 points, looking for another 25 odd to get a decent start on with Hazard (C) Silva Ivan and Lukaka still to play. Bring on a Silva controlled game tomorrow. Hope you lads all had decent days today, especially those who had both Oscar and Lampard although Lampard was unlucky with the penalty miss, good save from McGregor.
