Another strong Villa display. Another Christian Benteke goal. This time, however, Paul Lambert’s blossoming side fall short as Branislav Ivanovic is allowed to stay on the pitch to nod home Chelsea’s winner.

The Game Changer

Arguably, referee Kevin Friend was the most influential individual on show. There’s also a strong case for Christian Benteke who struck his third goal of the season and has now scored nine league goals in his last 10 outings. Branislav Ivanovic’s goal proved the difference, however, and rewarded those who invested their double Gameweek funds whilst underlining the goal threat previously on show in Saturday’s win over Hull.

Friend’s decision to brandish a yellow for Ivanovic’s lashing out on Benteke was undoubtedly the turning point. It allowed the Serbian to demonstrate his ability at set-plays as, just minutes later, he headed home Frank Lampard’s dead ball delivery.

Ivanovic was the only Chelsea defender denied Fantasy Premier League (FPL) bonus points from the Hull victory. Despite escaping a red card and being left for dead by Gabby Agbonlahor for Villa’s goal, Ivanovic looks set to earn bonus to make him Chelsea’s top scoring double Gameweek asset.

The Underused

While Benteke will earn huge investment following another goal and effective display, those who are struggling to stretch their funds to the Belgian will be eyeing the impact of Gabby Agbonlahor. So impressive during Villa’s run at the end of last season, he has started the new campaign in stunning form and yet claims less than 2% FPL ownership.

Instrumental in the victory at the Emirates, it was his turn of pace and delivery that set up Benteke for his equaliser. Agbonlahor has scored five goals and earned four assists in his last ten league outings.

The Selection Poser

It’s hardly a poser. Jose Mourinho’s decision to start with Demba Ba and leave Romelu Lukaku shackled on the bench disappointed Fantasy managers and Chelsea fans alike. His introduction for the ineffective Ba on 65 minutes provided little consolation. Lukaku played fewer minutes than any other Chelsea striker in the double Gameweek, having looked primed to start the campaign following a convincing pre-season.

Mourinho’s reluctance to hand Lukaku a central role on the Premier League stage is a puzzle. Perhaps he will start at Old Trafford on Monday and face a defence which he terrified on the final day of last season at the Hawthorns. It’s unlikely to make a difference – Lukaku’s ownership and price look set to slide.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Which midfielder should I get for 6.5m??

    Currently thinking Snodgrass.

But, will he fall in price soon or will his yellow flag dissapear?

Do any of you think there are better options to replace Ivanovic (to free up money for Lukaku > Soldado) than Lescott?

How many gameweeks will he play?
How long is Kompany out for and how long until Nastasic is back?

depends if you are set on a city defender or not. If yes then he is good option, if not i quite fancy Lovren, seems like a player who could rack up bonus points to me and is pretty decent threat at set plays

    a) A bit off topic but getting my gcse results today. Just wanted to ask whether people think doing Maths, Accounting, Computing and Economics in college is a good choice?

    b) Seems like Arsenal are teasing their fans again with big names. Not happening imho.

    c) I hate Mourinho. Now I need to take Lukaku out earlier than I intended to. Dzeko it is, although I want Sturridge 🙁

Good luck, them picks depend entirely on what you want to do when you're older, however I'd be wary of Accountancy as apparently it can be hard transitioning from A-Level to University level as they can teach you in completely different styles or something, some people claim it can be a hindrance, although I'm quite clearly not speaking from experience!

    From the rules;

    "Rebounds
If a shot on goal is blocked by an opposition player, is saved by a goalkeeper or hits the woodwork, and a goal is scored from the rebound, then an assist is awarded."

That means Dzeko should have a assist from Silvas goal right?

This gameweek was a majorrrr outlier.....

-Aguero hasn't played a lick of football AND injury concern...starts first game, scores and assists
-Negredo play very well in preseason.....sub appearance, goal wrongfully disallowed
-We all knew Lukaku was a risk yes.....plays a cumulative 35 minutes
-Bony was said to be the main striker.....jetlagged45 min only, and luckily a goal
-Dzeko, just as jet lagged.....plays the whole game with barely anything to show for it.
    -Arsenal.....
    - The number of penalties given AND penalty saves
    - Koscielny ._.

    Summary:
    - I hate Mourinho....Lukaku would be a straight starter in any other team, except United and City

Bony's finish looked so easy....I think this indicates a predatory striker. It was a class finish, first time. he knew where he needed to put it before the ball came to him.....and put it there.

He will live of those little through balls from the likes of Hernandez, Routledge, Dyer, Michu.

I wish I could live of through balls.

Haha I was thinking the same myself. Torres, Ba and then Lukaku to start the next match. It's as if its destiny that he will start because of his hatty vs them last yr. Was thinking of Solado alright, then had Dzeko in mind because of his fixtures but I really can't be assured that he will start because of City's wide range of strikers

73.85 was the final average in ROE.

I think La Liga would be even higher. Just refreshing it atm.

Btw did you do Lukaku -> Dzeko already, with plans for RVP GW4?

Wow, congrats to ENR and 4vets for getting centuries.
Decent enough start yourself considering the amount of time you put into your team 😉

Hey, that's our secret. You know I took someone's team here, and made a few changes. Three of which I distinctly remember were Ivanovic, Silva and Soldado. I don't like to brag, but it was almost like a Midas touch. 🙂

Btw it's 5.30 in the morning, and I still haven't decided whom I want instead of Lukaku.

I'm hoping I can sell Soldado for £14.5mill....then I can get van Persie in. 😆

      That a 5mil increase. I don't think even a 100% ownership would get him that high! 🙂

I think it was more about how Spurs negotiate etc....Sky-rocket price of Bale, Daniel Levy etc. Explaining it just takes the fun away.

Bale's going tonight apparently. Next few hours.

Shame to lose such a good player from the league.....and I support Liverpool.

Zab for an extra 0.5 is well worth it. But if you need that saving then yes Lescott is a very good option for next 2 weeks at least.

Not to bad for GW1. Bad choice of keeper, A Benteke goal, and the Tonev 7 min cameo......onwards and upwards.

Get Dzeko instead of Lambert. I don't think I could watch that game without any City players.

not sure i want another rotation risk. Osvaldo signing has completely screwed Jrod for me. Lambert in now gives me a week to work out who to get in for Jrod.
