The only thing more shocking than Miley Cyrus’ VMA performance this week was that Fraizer Campbell scored a brace against City and notched up a huge points haul. That result raised more eyebrows than Miley ever could. Luckily for managers with City men littered throughout their squads, it really should be business as usual this week.

According to Paddy Power’s odds, five of the six most likely players to score over the Gameweek wear City’s sky blue. Great news if you can get a couple of them in your squad, but bleak reading if you’re without City cover, or, indeed a Hull City Tigers fan.

Sergio Aguero is the hot favourite at 1/2 with Paddy to find the net at anytime. He’s likely to be partnered by Edin Dzeko, who is 5/6 to notch: the duo have already opened their Premier League accounts and appear to be Manuel Pellegrini’s favored strike partnership, with Alvaro Negredo is kept on the leash, at least for now.

Robin van Persie disappointed many after drawing a blank against Chelsea but that will quickly be forgiven if he scores against Liverpool on Sunday: an anytime goal is evens with Paddy. It’s also worth noting that Paddy are refunding losing bets (First Goalscorer, Last Goalscorer, Correct Score and Scorecast singles) if the Anfield clash ends all-square.

Either side of Van Persie in the betting we find further City players. David Silva has a goal and an assist to his name already this season and is 6/5 to find the net at anytime against Hull – the top ranked midfielder on show in the Gameweek. The aforementioned Negredo has played just 31 minutes of Premier League football but opened his account at Cardiff and is odds-on at 5/6 with Paddy Power to register again on Saturday.

Olivier Giroud has notched two goals in consecutive league outings this season and makes the list of top 10 most likely players to score. All 13 of his Premier League goals have come in London and, if you follow that bizarre trend, Giroud at 6/4 with Paddy to score at anytime against Spurs looks decent. If that derby ends in a draw, Paddy Power will also refund your losing bets (First Goalscorer, Last Goalscorer, Correct Score and Scorecast singles).

Behind Silva, Swansea’s Michu is the most fancied anytime scorer from midfield with Paddy offering 17/10 on a strike at the Hawthorns. Arsenal’s Theo Walcott is at 21/10 to register against Spurs, with West Ham’s Kevin Nolan just behind the Gunners man and Yaya Toure at 9/4 to get on the scoresheet against the Potters.

Hull are yet to score from open play this season and Manchester City had the best defensive record at home in the top flight last term. That, in a nutshell, is all you need to know when it comes to picking out a likely clean sheet this weekend. If you’re nursing any City defenders in your squad after Sunday’s setback, at least you’ll be confident in them keeping a shut-out this time around; they’re at 4/6 with Paddy Power.

West Ham are hard to break down at Upton Park, and they square up to a Stoke side that scored just 13 on the road last term. The Hammers are 7/5 to keep Mark Hughes’ men out on Saturday afternoon in what looks set to be a muscular war of attrition.

The biggest revelation on show in these odds is perhaps Newcastle and Crystal Palace being amongst the top five. The pair have just one Premier League point between them but are 9/5 and 2/1 respectively with Paddy Power to record a shut-out in the Gameweek. The Toon Army welcome Fulham to St James’ Park and Palace host a Sunderland side that have won just one of the last eight league games on their travels.

    Still undecided! 🙁

Rival has Aguero (C) and RvP (VC). The rest of his team is relatively weak.

I have RvP, Silva, Soldado, Dzeko and Wally to pick from.

Would like Silva but not a fan of having my C play in the first game.

Silva is a good option, likely hood they wont concede at Home that's 3 points and surely he will get an assist minimum so 6 points, could score much more aswelll. I think the NLD will be tight

Worst thing you can do at this stage of the season is consider what your rivals are doing.

Make the call that nets YOU the most points.

I'm not looking forward to it for the same reason as you.

I'll probably discover at 11.45 tomorrow that Silva's not playing, he comes on to get a 1 point cameo and ruins my Gameweek, and the next fortnight through the international break.

And then England will lose to Moldova and Sturridge and Gerrard will get injured and Liverpool will be fooked

Need some more opinions on this hit next week:

Coutinho + Mirallas + Dzeko --> Brady, Paulinho, RVP (-8)

Swing in fixtures for Spurs, United and Hull.

Mirallas and Cout not producing, Everton's fixtures turn sour.
    Dzeko rotation risk.

Would give me front 8 of:

    Walcott Silva Paulinho Brady Williams
    RVP Benteke Soldado

I'd wait to see how Coutinho and Mirallas perform this week.

To be honest, I have both and am itching to get them out as well, but my transfers are tied up elsewhere.

An 8 point hit is always tough to swallow, especially for H2H. I'd avoid it at all costs.

Between the three, I'd get rid of Dzeko first.

      Smells like a knee-jerk move.

      Be patient.

Wait to pull this off after the Int'l break.

Taking an 8pt hit & then finding out you lost someone would be awful.

Further, the three you are transferring out all have a strong potential to get offensive returns this wknd mate. (vs. MAN, CAR & HUL)

I feel I can't be too careful this early in the year.

When we're dealing in blocks of .5mil any drop / rise has a huge impact.
(e.g. a 4.5mil defender drops .1mil effectively meaning our only replacement is a 4mil defender)

As the season progresses & prices rise/fall this is obviously less of an issue...

        This is close minded.

Players who are very successful are able to make the correct captains choice week in week out.

RVP may well score against Liverpool, especially if Toure is out,

Personally I don't have him as I don't think he justifies his price, but if you have him, and don't have a city attacker then by all means captain RVP

Gotta love posting at the end of old articles!

Still undecided on the (C) between Theo and Dzeko. Don't fancy Migs to keep a CS but doesn't feel right playing Marshall when I'm playing Coleman and Mirallas. Everything else look where its supposed to?

    Migs
    Coleman - Collins - M. Turner
Mirallas - Coutinho - Walcott - Ben Arfa
    Soldado - Dzeko - Lambert

    Marshall - Kim - Toure - Chester

    Bank: 4.4M

Seriously considering captaining Zabaleta for some reason. I just love a gamble and it's the first game of the weekend. Could be a joyous or suicidal decison.

Can't wait for the line ups tonight. Gonna be funny if both teams play a 4-6-0

PS- It's gonna be carnage on here for Forca when JT keeps Mandzukic in his back pocket all evening

Most people pick the person they intend to captain in the captain's poll, not the person likely to score the highest points.

More people on FFS have Silva rather than Aguero, hence Silva has a higher % captaincy

Yes, generally i think people vote for who they think/hope will score highest out of the players they have rather than the best option overall. Statistically/logically that option this week is Aguero.

It's been a bone of contention for me for a few seasons now on here. 'Who's the best captain?' and 'Who are you captaining?' are two separate questions and I'm not sure that everyone is answering the same one when they're voting.

Spot on. Its generally why i ignore the poll 🙂

          Current ownership:

          Silva: 19.4%
          Aguero: 12.4%

enough to skew the result, although i also think that Silva's ownership as a proportion of those who come here vs Aguero's is likely higher still.

I think a lot more people here own Silva than Aguero by a long shot. And they are too unsettled about Dzeko starting to captain him, so Silva ends up being the best MCI attacking player they own, therefore he gets the armband.

While they get a lot of stick, which Bendtner deserves a lot more of due to his ego, I think both are decent ball players and have but in the graft for Arsenal when they were asked to. I actually hope Palace sign him and make them into the players they're capable of being (that's just me though 😀 )
