David Silva pulls out of the Spain squad with a hamstring problem. Reports suggest Glen Johnson could be out for 10 weeks with a knee problem. Nani is warned his game time is far from guaranteed, while Mark Hughes has concerns over a trio of Stoke midfielders ahead of Saturday’s clash with former club City:

Silva Hamstring Woe

Manuel Pellegrini will be awaiting further news on David Silva after the playmaker was ruled out of Spain’s friendly against Chile tomorrow evening. The Spanish FA confirmed earlier this morning that an MRI scan has revealed Silva has “a slight muscle injury” and “as a precaution, was sent home to avoid complications to the injury.”

The Scout Says: With a goal and assist over the first couple of matches, Silva earned a substantial bandwagon ahead of the previous home match against Hull. Having failed to produce any returns against the Tigers, he has been subject to sales but still, nonetheless, has a 20% ownership in Fantasy Premier League (FPL). While Pellegrini and the player’s Fantasy owners will be afforded a degree of optimism by Spain’s suggestion that the withdrawal is purely precautionary, the City boss may well decide to take no chances this weekend away to Stoke, with Samir Nasri and new boy Stevan Jovetic offering alternatives on the left, should Silva’s hamstring be afforded a little caution.

Johnson Fears Grow

Reports in yesterday’s Mirror suggest Glen Johnson could be out for 10 weeks with the knee injury that forced him off in the Gameweek 3 win over United.

The Scout Says: The right-back’s owners will be on high alert as they await for official confirmation from the club. Liverpool issued updates on Daniel Sturridge twice last week but have yet to comment on Johnson’s injury after he was seen leaving Anfield on crutches following a challenge by Patrice Evra. If Johnson is indeed forced out for such a length of time, it remains to be seen just how Brendan Rodgers will address the situation – Kolo Toure was expected to be forced out at centre-half by new boy Mamadou Sakho and although the Ivorian is versatile enough to switch to right-back, he lacks the dynamism afforded by Johnson’s raiding runs down the right. Toure is still struggling with a groin complaint but while his experience has proved crucial in the middle, it’s debatable whether he would get the nod over either Andre Wisdom or Martin Kelly as a replacement for Johnson. At 4.4 and 4.3 in FPL respectively, they seem more likely to vie for the role and would offer Fantasy managers a superb value route into the meanest backline in the top-flight right now.

Midfield Worries for Potters

Stoke boss Mark Hughes is sweating over the availability of three of his midfielders ahead of next weekend’s home clash against City. Both Glenn Whelan (hamstring) and Charlie Adam (back) have withdrawn from their respective national squads while Jon Walters is being monitored after missing training for the Republic of Ireland with an ankle problem:

The Scout Says: Whelan’s possible loss is the least significant for the Potters, bearing in mind he has been utilised as a sub in the last couple of games. Walters has played all three of Stoke’s league games thus far, however, while Adam has featured in the first XI in each of the last couple of matches – any possible absence for both could see Hughes bring new boys Stephen Ireland and Marko Arnautovic into his plans. Fantasy managers are hoping the latter’s versatility will persuade Hughes to field him up front but he also offers an option on the right should Walters fail to recover in time.

Nani Determined to Win Starting Role

United winger Nani has arrived on Fantasy radars after penning an improved five-year contract with the champions. While many see the new deal as an indication of David Moyes’ faith in the Portuguese star, Nani has revealed his manager has already stressed he is by no means a certain starter:

“I am very content with my new deal at Manchester United. This summer was not easy but after a lot of thought and talking to David Moyes I believe it was the best solution. I feel I can offer many things to United. I had other important offers but without a sufficient challenge to make me want to leave United. The coach would not guarantee me a place in the XI more than any other player. I know I must work hard to get into this team.”

The Scout Says: Having played a mere 630 minutes under Sir Alex Ferguson last time out, Nani has become a peripheral figure in recent times. Last week’s news has persuaded almost 2,000 FPL managers to acquire his services but the player’s statement clearly highlights the uncertainty still surrounding his game time. United are certainly well-stocked for options on the flanks and while Nani offers Moyes options on both wings, it remains to be seen whether he’s done enough to convince the manager of a starting berth just yet. With four homes games in the next six, though, the bandwagon could pick up pace if the 7.4 priced midfielder can force his way into the first XI over the next Gameweek or two.

Jol Sweating on Hughes Fitness

Fulham boss Martin Jol is awaiting further news on the thigh injury that has forced Aaron Hughes out of Northern Ireland’s World Cup qualifiers. The centre-half missed Friday’s home defeat by Portugal and is also ruled out of tomorrow evening’s showdown with Luxemburg.

The Scout Says: With new boy Fernando Amorebieta sidelined through injury, Hughes has started all three of the Cottagers’ league matches alongside Brede Hangeland in the heart of the back-four. The fixtures fall very much in Fulham’s favour over the next few Gameweeks – home clashes with West Brom, Cardiff and Stoke, allied with a trip to Cardiff in the following five suggests an upturn in fortunes is on the cards after back-to-back defeats. Jol will be buoyed by the news that Amorebieta travelled with the Venezuela squad to face Chile, though the centre-half failed to feature, suggesting he has yet to prove his fitness – Philippe Senderos could be in the frame to start against the Baggies on Saturday if the injury situation doesn’t improve. With worries remaining over Maarten Stekelenburg and Kieran Richardson, the Fulham manager doesn’t have his defensive trouble to seek right now.

There may be no sanctioned, it's just the way that papers have written up about it. Calling it hippy crack etc, just makes people that don't know what it is think it's worse than it is.

Fair enough, haven't really read much of the coverage. Apparently 'hippy crack' is another name for it though and it is dangerous in large/regular amounts but I can imagine the reporting is a little sensationalist in some of the tabloids - balanced reporting doesn't sell to the masses unfortunately!

Lamela looks a clever player. Despite Arsenal having 10 men defending in their half when Lamela came on, he still managed to find space. Made one or two very good off the ball runs into the box aswell.

Eriksen might not go straight into the team.

Nani punt could be good but it could also be a nightmare having to get him straight back out again if he's not playing.

Saving your transfer is always good if you're happy with your team.

I dont like the Nani punt as he will still be rotated even with more PT, so Eriksen or the FT IMO.

Depends who you starting othervise Eriksen could be a great punt for that price.

Whilst all great players I'd be a touch worried about having lampard(rotation), silva(possible injury/rotation) and sturridge(possible injury) seeing as it's using a lot of your budget. Could leave you a little light if luck isn't with you this gameweek.

I'd wait on Eriksen to see where/how he plays. And I'm also tempted by Nani punt but will probably only do it if silva is confirmed out.

Only a week ago all (well not all...) rmt's were full of expencive defenders and screaming 'look what I can have without Rvp'.

Now it seems like dust has settled and many wc teams include Rvp, Walcott & Coutinho and only one, max two over 5m defenders.

Why's that, because people are too scared to go without Rvp?
I mean, there's been no games and bonus system is still the same....

    Hi All
A couple of decisions driving me up the wall in the break!

I punted on Negredo C GW3 while Benteke was out, with the plan of swapping them back for GW4. Obv the punt wasn't a horrible one, and now there's talk of him starting at Stoke.

My other forwards are Studge and Soldado. Forget Studge injury, I missed out on the first week thinking he wouldn't play lol. Soldado hasn't looked amazing but has NOR. Benteke is surely a must but for who???

Also considering Mirallas out for HBA for next week, but now Nani is being mentioned and surely Palace would be the best time to have him?

    Any advice welcomed!

Not for a hit, Nani if he starts is surely a bargain and will become a bandwagon too(meaning his price will skyrocket) if not, HBA is a viable option.

    Szczesny Camp

    Chesta - Vidic - Ivanovic - Sakho - Gabbidon

    JWP - Walcott - Lampard - Lamela - Nani

    Giroud - Benteke - Sturridge

What do you say? Does it have too many doubts? Can I get away with an 11 for the next 2 GWs?

    3 questions:

A playing mid for 4.5 or less, who is the obvious choice?

Also, since Cabaye is back, is he likely to garner points once again? I know Ben Arfa was one set pieces and penalties during his absence, but will it revert back to the former?

Eriksen dilemna? I think he is very good, and see Spurs scoring goals and him getting the assists, is this such a bad option?

      Ward-Prowse

Wait and see, HBA is on penalties over Cabaye but Cabaye will probably take some of his set pieces.

No it's not a bad option but it is a punt at the moment.

Actually, this could be a factor I think as when downvoting was allowed, the Scouts and Mods were upvoting to counteract what they perceived as unjustified downvotes. And, their upvotes were worth a lot more rep than other people's downvotes

        I think.

how's this for a WC team?

boruc, given (would ideally like to get a 4.5 guy in here)

    coleman, koscielny, dawson, moxey, turner

    silva, lamps, michu, ward-prowse, barkley

    rvp, soldado, giroud.

    0.4m in the bank.

obviously lots of room for manouvering in midfield/attack, could bring in lamela for michu and downgrade soldado > benteke? this would free up cash to get myhill. i think lamela would be a punt at the moment though.

Nani will rip it up vs palace and will be in everyone's team for gw5.

Thanks guys. Both options carry heavy risk but first option I can do for free in a straight Mirallas > Nani swap. Might be worth the punt but will sit on it for now and wait to hear news on Rooney.

Just a point for anyone who posts a rate my wildcard. If your team looks the same as all the template teams then it is fine. There is no need to post. Please only post if your team has some differentials in or stick to..."which player combo should i choose" etc.

So has anyone worked out(or is there an article/link) how the new BAP system rewards points?

E.g - how much for an assist/CS/goal scored for different positions?

Doing a 4-3-3, but wondering if my light-weight midfield is a good or a bad idea.

      From the FPL site:

      Bonus Points

A new Bonus Points System (BPS) has been created which utilises a range of statistics to create a BPS score for every player. The three best performing players in each match will be awarded bonus points. 3 points will be awarded to the highest scoring player, 2 to the second best and 1 to the third.

Examples of how bonus point ties will be resolved are as follows:

If there is a tie for first place, Players 1 & 2 will receive 3 points each and Player 3 will receive 1 point.
If there is a tie for second place, Player 1 will receive 3 points and Players 2 and 3 will receive 2 points each.
If there is a tie for third place, Player 1 will receive 3 points, Player 2 will receive 2 points and Players 3 & 4 will receive 1 point each.
How is the BPS score calculated?

Players score BPS points based on the following statistics (one point for each unless otherwise stated):

      Playing in a game
      Playing over 60 minutes
      Scoring goals
      Goalkeepers and defenders (4 points)
      Midfielders (6 points)
      Fowards (8 points)
      Assists (3 points)
Goalkeepers and defenders keeping a clean sheet (4 points)
      Saving a penalty (5 points)
      For every 3 saves
For every 3 open play crosses
Creating a big chance (a chance where the receiving player should score)
For every 8 clearances, blocks and interceptions (total)
      For every 8 recoveries
      Providing 3 key passes
      Making 3 successful tackles (net*)
Scoring the goal that wins a match
Pass Completion (after making at least 30 passes)
      70% completion (1 point)
      80% completion (2 points)
      90% completion (3 points)
*Net successful tackles is the total of all successful tackles minus any unsuccessful tackles. Players will not be awarded negative BPS points for this statistic.

Players lose BPS points based on the following statistics (one point for each unless otherwise stated):

      Conceding a penalty
      Missing a penalty (-2 points)
      Yellow cards
      Red cards (-3 points)
      Own goals (-2 points)
      Missing a big chance
Making an error which leads to a goal
Every 2 errors leading to an attempt at goal
      Being tackled 3 times
      Conceding 2 fouls
      Being caught offside 3 times
Missing the target with 3 shots
Data is supplied by Opta and once it has been marked as final will not be changed. We will not enter into discussion around any of the statistics used to calculate this score for any individual match.

      Hope this helps 😉
