Clean sheets are the order of the day once again as Southampton and West Ham play out a goalless draw in Sunday’s only fixture. While the two sides continue to impress defensively, their inability to find the net is a real concern – both have notched just twice over the opening four fixtures:

The Game Changer

Jussi Jaaskelainen’s heroics between the sticks were once again crucial to the Hammers’ prospects today. Helping his side to a vital point at St Mary’s, the Finnish star denied Mauricio Pochettino’s side with five saves to register his third clean sheet in four matches – with just a single goal conceded to Stoke so far, the London outfit have been superb at the back and somewhat atoned for the problems up front which have seen them fail to score in three successive matches.

Up next for the Hammers is a home game against an Everton side that have one goal in three before a trip to Hull – more defensive points look likely before the schedule takes a turn for the worse from Gameweek 7 onwards.

The Underused

Seemingly out of favour under Pochettino, Nathaniel Clyne returned to the Southampton first XI for the first time this term. The right-back turned in an impressive showing and with a couple of bonus points also on the cards, he could return to Fantasy radars after shedding over 24,000 owners and dropping down to 4.4 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) – at least 0.2 cheaper than any other regular in the Saints’ defence.

With four kind home games (CPL, SWA, FUL, HUL) and a trip to Stoke in the next seven, Clyne looks set for further returns as Pochettino’s look to continue a run that has now seen them concede just twice in the opening four Gameweeks.

The Selection Poser

Clyne’s return was one of three changes from Pochettino today as Luke Shaw and Jay Rodriguez were also named in the starting line-up. While Shaw’s return was expected after he proved his fitness for the England Under 21s over the last week, his owners will be concerned after he was subbed off towards the end of the match – the player has since taken to twitter to reveal his withdrawal was due to cramp but his propensity for picking up niggles and failing to last 90 minutes is clearly becoming an issue.

Pochettino’s decision to hand Rodriguez a chance proved frustrating for James Ward-Prowse’s new owners. The youngster had started all of the first three Gameweeks and with a share of set-piece duties and kindly price tag, he was acquired by an extra 57,000 new FPL owners over the two-week international break. Handed an 19-minute second-half cameo towards the end of the stalemate, Ward-Prowse could be set for an exodus if Rodriguez keeps his place.

For the visitors, the second-half introduction of Razvan Rat could be a sign that Sam Allardyce is set to alter his full-back options. The summer signing hadn’t featured in the league prior to today but was sent on just after the hour mark in a move that allowed the versatile Joey O’Brien to switch from left-back to the opposite flank and saw Guy Demel withdrawn instead – perhaps an ominous sign for the Ivorian’s owners over the weeks to come.

            Benteke RVP Sturridge

Worth taking Sturridge out for Giroud? I was going to bring in Ozil for Silva and I already have Theo so I guess I can stay without Giroud. But he is their striker and if somebody is going to get goals in Ars its him.

Tough call. Personally I would lose RVP. But I can understand why u wouldnt. If you go for Giroud you will undoubtably make money and Sturridge is the one to lose if you do. I just think I would fix any other problem in my team aead of it as you have 3 good forwards already

Depends what value you can expect by upgrading elsewhere..i.e who you would be upgrading and for who.

I'd rather have one of Benteke, Giroud, Sturridge than Rooney. But that's just my opinion, Rooney wont score a freekick every week.

So I could go that route.

Front line is currently RVP, Sturridge and Giroud.

Would love to WC and would consider Benteke for RVP.

But I guess I don't have to pull the trigger just yet.

RVP's fixtures vs Benteke fixtures over the next 6. I would expect RVP to outscore Benteke heavily then you will be kicking yourself.

Well that's it for Kagawa's career at United. Unless Moyes plays Rooney alongside rvp, or Kagawa likes running the channels. Btw it wasn't a great free kick, it was completely standard, the wall didn't bother to jump, and it shows how lethargic and heavy legged Rooney is that he can't be bothered to move when he scores now. Great long ball for rvp though, that's pretty much the only good thing in his game now. I quite like the idea of a front 3 of Kagawa, rvp and Rooney, with Januzaj on the left, Nani on the right. There's a hole in midfield anyway, lets just put Fellaini there on his own and make him run around.

Considering a WC too. At least five I want out which would be a 16pt hit. A WC I might do 7-8.

With the new players in and fixture qualities changing next week or so. I might wait till the October break.

Looking for a stoke defender for gw6 and onwards, looking at pieters and wilson. Wilson 0.5 cheaper, oop but only on paper, as his avg positions are almost the same as the ones of pieters.
Wilson had a few more shots, Pieters a few more crosses, but everything else looks pretty similar.

I didn't watch any of stoke's games, can anyone give me some input about these two? Is either likely to get dropped etc.

He really is unlucky not to score, he hit the post and got denied a penalty from a blatant handball. I think he should come good, but wouldn't blame you for shipping.

Its a move that could pay off should Lukaku get the start immediately at Everton.

Lambert is frustrating ATM - I am sticking with him as his numbers suggest a goal or 3 is just around the corner. Good fixtures also

While things are slow, I may as well ask again... What should I do with Kolorov? I have no other transfers to make this week. Should I keep him and save the xfer or ship him out? If so, who for at 5.3 or under?

If Toure's out Kolarov will come in... if he holds onto his spot for which I think there's a decent chance.

I'm going off the chances Wally's had. Odds wise I think I have to go with Walcott and the rewards are greater.

On fire against Stoke in GW1 creating something like 4 big chances. Subdued in avl game as Rodgers deliberately parked the bus to prevent the Villa counterattack. Subdued in MUN game, ditto. Could be moved to centre against Swansea so see how he does. Keeping him for Southampton this week, these are the two final chances I'm giving him.

I've been unusually patient with Mirallas, Walcott and Coutinho and the one time I have been patient it's not paid off so far. I think the odds are in your favour with those players because of the number of chances they get, but if they're not going to put them away, there's nothing you can do.

    hello sleepyheads

it may seem like an unimportant matter but what are your approaches to bench players?

I feel Ive spent 0.5 too much on one of my bench players, whitts, who's just gonna sit on my bench each week and occasionally come up with returns that'll just be wasted on my bench.

should i have just got a 4.5 and pocketed the rest? do you like your bench fodder to be playable (like collins at 4.5 who got a cleanie today for example)?

Cant believe I dont own him

I own nearly every other player who has great underlying stats and below average returns atm

What's about opponents? I can't remember who he played last year.

Also, he just joined the team last season. That might be a reason too.

He only started 2 of the first 4 last season. Probably only played 220 mins

Hi, I've had to delete I'm afraid as its not fair on members to publish data that is exclusive to them. Feel free to post that Rvp 's stats look better, but not to copy the stats themselves. Cheers.

Another interesting spot. Surprised to see his stats are better. Bear in mind he had a disrupted start to the season coming on for a cameo in the Everton game. That will reduce his stats per game, though not his minutes per attempt.

RVP's shot accuracy and goal conversion is usually very good. He'll have his ups and downs. Against Swansea he got two goals out of barely any chances. Against Crystal Palace he missed 6 shots in the box. Will average somewhere in the middle.
