Clean sheets are the order of the day once again as Southampton and West Ham play out a goalless draw in Sunday’s only fixture. While the two sides continue to impress defensively, their inability to find the net is a real concern – both have notched just twice over the opening four fixtures:

The Game Changer

Jussi Jaaskelainen’s heroics between the sticks were once again crucial to the Hammers’ prospects today. Helping his side to a vital point at St Mary’s, the Finnish star denied Mauricio Pochettino’s side with five saves to register his third clean sheet in four matches – with just a single goal conceded to Stoke so far, the London outfit have been superb at the back and somewhat atoned for the problems up front which have seen them fail to score in three successive matches.

Up next for the Hammers is a home game against an Everton side that have one goal in three before a trip to Hull – more defensive points look likely before the schedule takes a turn for the worse from Gameweek 7 onwards.

The Underused

Seemingly out of favour under Pochettino, Nathaniel Clyne returned to the Southampton first XI for the first time this term. The right-back turned in an impressive showing and with a couple of bonus points also on the cards, he could return to Fantasy radars after shedding over 24,000 owners and dropping down to 4.4 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) – at least 0.2 cheaper than any other regular in the Saints’ defence.

With four kind home games (CPL, SWA, FUL, HUL) and a trip to Stoke in the next seven, Clyne looks set for further returns as Pochettino’s look to continue a run that has now seen them concede just twice in the opening four Gameweeks.

The Selection Poser

Clyne’s return was one of three changes from Pochettino today as Luke Shaw and Jay Rodriguez were also named in the starting line-up. While Shaw’s return was expected after he proved his fitness for the England Under 21s over the last week, his owners will be concerned after he was subbed off towards the end of the match – the player has since taken to twitter to reveal his withdrawal was due to cramp but his propensity for picking up niggles and failing to last 90 minutes is clearly becoming an issue.

Pochettino’s decision to hand Rodriguez a chance proved frustrating for James Ward-Prowse’s new owners. The youngster had started all of the first three Gameweeks and with a share of set-piece duties and kindly price tag, he was acquired by an extra 57,000 new FPL owners over the two-week international break. Handed an 19-minute second-half cameo towards the end of the stalemate, Ward-Prowse could be set for an exodus if Rodriguez keeps his place.

For the visitors, the second-half introduction of Razvan Rat could be a sign that Sam Allardyce is set to alter his full-back options. The summer signing hadn’t featured in the league prior to today but was sent on just after the hour mark in a move that allowed the versatile Joey O’Brien to switch from left-back to the opposite flank and saw Guy Demel withdrawn instead – perhaps an ominous sign for the Ivorian’s owners over the weeks to come.

    Migs - Lewis

    Vidic - Kosc - Wisdom - Burner - Chester

    Walcott - Eriksen - Lampard - Whittingham - JWP

    RVP - Benteke - Giroud

    Should I:

    A) Lampard -> HBA with my FT
    B) RVP -> Rooney and JWP -> HBA for a hit
    C) Save my FT (although I'm desperate to get HBA for his next three fixtures)

I concur with Clyne i had him at 4.5m and he dropped to 4.4m but felt that he would soon regain his spot and he has. Also Southampton defense looks solid this season and I can see more clean sheets especially against teams that are short on attacking stats.

Even though Ben Arfa has done well so far, I feel us non-owners have missed the boat now. Fixtures look miserable for Newcastle after this week. Though I can still understand why so many are buying him. Very little options in that price range.

Worth taking hits in the first couple of months of the season imo to jump on bandwagons and hoover up team value. If the transfer ultimately fails, at least you gained value, if it succeeds, you've gained value and points. If you take a modest estimate of needing 2000 points over the season from 100m, that means each 0.1m gained is worth about 2 points. (Very crude calculation, it is worth more the more GWs are remaining, which is why it's best to gain team value early).

Hoping to delay the WC for a time when I have more information.

Nice one. WC is a tradeoff between info and team value gains imo, might do it later. But happy to take hits. Got Ramsey and Giroud in on Saturday night and should be gaining 0.4-0.6 price on them this GW, maybe 0.2-0.3 sale value.

    D:For -4 HBA & Coleman ..Drop Nolan & GJohnson

What you do is people suggest entries. Then you put them against each other and have rounds and people vote for which one is better or they prefer out of the two. And the progress to the next round etc

Just occurred to me what a supreme effort it involves to save your WC for the assumed FA Cup DGWs in the spring.

We're talking up to 6 months of not using it!

Hoping to do the same this season.

That's the plan. Particularly as the sides that get the DGWs are typically sides with CL commitments, ie great sides. A Man United/Chelsea DGW could be huge.

It takes a lot of determination though. Saving FT as much as possible and avoiding punts is key.

I used mine last season sometime near the end, big DGW and was very happy having it. Can't seem to be able to look it up. 36ish? Anyways, was much better than using it sooner. Every other season I screwed up so badly I needed it before week 10, and being able to save it was great. I tend to think people who use it early are just wasting its potential, unless they got very unlucky with injuries.

Sorry for Repost...HBA...in 15min min, price will rise according to Total
Coleman maybe again will rise, already did last nite

    Migs (Boruc)
    Ivan - Merts - Lovren - (GJohnson) - (Baker)
    Michu - Paulinho - Lampard - Nolan - (Colback)
    Giroud - Benteke - Soldado

    Should i do:

A--Nolan for HBA (tonite BEFORE his price rise?)
B--wait another GW --(see how both HBA and Nolan do, and risk HBA rising .2-.3?)
C--GJohnson for Coleman --(save $.5, he rose .1 yesterday and not risk Coleman rising .2-.3 this week?)
    D:For -4 HBA & Coleman ..Drop Nolan & GJohnson
E--NOT DO anything and have 2 FT next week, so as to drop GJ AND baker next week

A: When will Carroll back? Nolan has not much chance without him. Fixtures look difficult too.
B: No point to buy HBA in Gw6. Fixtures turn bad.
C: GJ will be out until Oct. You better have playing DF.

A & C look ok for me. Up to your priority.

No way. He didn't start away to Everton because he played both internationals and at 35 Mour thought he could do with a rest. Well that blew up in Mours face and now it is clear how valuable Lampard is to the side. Chelsea now have a must win at home to Fulham who they always beat and Mour won't mess his line up anymore than he has to. Lamps will start and score and assist.
