Clean sheets are the order of the day once again as Southampton and West Ham play out a goalless draw in Sunday’s only fixture. While the two sides continue to impress defensively, their inability to find the net is a real concern – both have notched just twice over the opening four fixtures:

The Game Changer

Jussi Jaaskelainen’s heroics between the sticks were once again crucial to the Hammers’ prospects today. Helping his side to a vital point at St Mary’s, the Finnish star denied Mauricio Pochettino’s side with five saves to register his third clean sheet in four matches – with just a single goal conceded to Stoke so far, the London outfit have been superb at the back and somewhat atoned for the problems up front which have seen them fail to score in three successive matches.

Up next for the Hammers is a home game against an Everton side that have one goal in three before a trip to Hull – more defensive points look likely before the schedule takes a turn for the worse from Gameweek 7 onwards.

The Underused

Seemingly out of favour under Pochettino, Nathaniel Clyne returned to the Southampton first XI for the first time this term. The right-back turned in an impressive showing and with a couple of bonus points also on the cards, he could return to Fantasy radars after shedding over 24,000 owners and dropping down to 4.4 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) – at least 0.2 cheaper than any other regular in the Saints’ defence.

With four kind home games (CPL, SWA, FUL, HUL) and a trip to Stoke in the next seven, Clyne looks set for further returns as Pochettino’s look to continue a run that has now seen them concede just twice in the opening four Gameweeks.

The Selection Poser

Clyne’s return was one of three changes from Pochettino today as Luke Shaw and Jay Rodriguez were also named in the starting line-up. While Shaw’s return was expected after he proved his fitness for the England Under 21s over the last week, his owners will be concerned after he was subbed off towards the end of the match – the player has since taken to twitter to reveal his withdrawal was due to cramp but his propensity for picking up niggles and failing to last 90 minutes is clearly becoming an issue.

Pochettino’s decision to hand Rodriguez a chance proved frustrating for James Ward-Prowse’s new owners. The youngster had started all of the first three Gameweeks and with a share of set-piece duties and kindly price tag, he was acquired by an extra 57,000 new FPL owners over the two-week international break. Handed an 19-minute second-half cameo towards the end of the stalemate, Ward-Prowse could be set for an exodus if Rodriguez keeps his place.

For the visitors, the second-half introduction of Razvan Rat could be a sign that Sam Allardyce is set to alter his full-back options. The summer signing hadn’t featured in the league prior to today but was sent on just after the hour mark in a move that allowed the versatile Joey O’Brien to switch from left-back to the opposite flank and saw Guy Demel withdrawn instead – perhaps an ominous sign for the Ivorian’s owners over the weeks to come.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    Migs

    Williams Dawson Toure

    Lamps Wally Ramsey Eriksen

    RVP Giroud Benteke

If I wanted to drop RVP I'd just go to Studge and bank the money

I genuinely think your team is in good shape. Don't like Gunnardson's fixtures and would try to upgrade him. Not much in the 6M range though. I also own Soldado and he may come good but he's doesn't look good value right now. Selling him would free up some funds which could be used next week. It's a long season and there's not much between the top 20K and 300K

Ye Nolan was bought in with a long term view of Carroll coming back in to boost his potential but that's gone now. Want rid of him but might give him one more home game?

I don't know with Soldado he looks likely to do well but it's very hard watching the likes of Giroud and Sturridge score every week while he still waits for his first open play goal, especially when the saving for downgrading is so small.

I like Gunnarsson having seen a bit of him in the championship, and sounds like he was getting into good positions on Saturday too, since he was mentioned as having a few good chances on Soccer Saturday, can't see any better replacement apart from maybe Ramsey but it's not a priority when funds could be used elsewhere.

Nolan out anyway maybe Soldado to Sturridge or Giroud and upgrade Nolan to Erikson to keep spurs coverage? Frees some cash up also for following week

I was thinking of Nolan to Eriksen but that stops me being able to upgrade the defense the week after.

Was also thinking of Murner to Coleman?

I'm reluctant to do Soldado to Giroud because I believe Soldado will start scoring sooner rather than later and Giroud won't score every week...

I did Nolan > HBA and not Erikson because of that same reason.

Am also thinking of Soldado > Giroud after UCL.

Ha I'm the same. I'm going to end up with Ozil-Walcott-Coutinho-Kagawa-Eriksen-Sturridge-Benteke-Lukaku. It's costing me points though ignoring Giroud. All he does is score near post tap ins, the classiest most elegant near post tap ins, but given how knackered he is and his limitations..he can't possibly score the exact same goal 20 times in a season. Maybe a few headers as well. Walcott's fault for trying everything to not score. But if fpl is about short term gain and canny picks then I've missed a few. Actually a lot..

This is my second full season. When I first started to play it, it was in January, and I remember getting scores of 70 or 80, with no double gameweeks. I didn't know what a good score was. I even made a good pick in Chamberlain and put him on the bench when he got about 14 points. I thought sub points counted or that automatically if a subbed player gets more points he'll be included in your eleven.

My first full season I tried to pick by fixtures, but it never works like that. I panicked in about week 3 and bought 3 swansea players, then Dyer got a red card a few weeks later. This time I've done so much research it's kind of sad. I like the continuous puzzle of it though.

I'm going to try to never take a hit on a player. I think last season I didn't realise that it was a long game in regards to picking players you think that by the end of the season will have the most points. Players on top now just have Yaya in their team, or Mignolet, or Ramsey. I'm hoping if I stick with Coutinho by gw10 he'll be in the top 5 midfielders. Same with Walcott. Both Ben Arfa and Ramsey have shown their form previously to this gw, but if you take a points hit you think they so could easily not do anything.

I've sold rvp for Lukaku and have 8.6m. I'm thinking that if I leave enough in the bank I could swap out any 4.5 midfield player I have for the one in form, without having to do two to afford it and take a hit I mean. I might try to leave money to do things like that. I wonder if Hernandez will show consistency from last week's haul...

It's a puzzling game, so hard to say who's wrong. You're RVP downgrade is bold but could just pay off handsomely if you reinvest well.

Good luck for the season! I hope the faith in youre players pay off, unless of course my mini league rivals have them then I hope they crash and bun 😉

      The back is really nice.

      Forwards are good.

Only Mirallas has a question mark for me and he could turn it on soon.

If you're really unhappy just do a -4 and that should get it looking a lot more pleasing.

    Advice

1--Keep Oscar till next week, see how Che mids rotate

    3--Oscar for Ramsey (save 1.8)

Missed rises and missed points, so it's chasing points a bit. Form and fixture certainly gud tho. I'd keep Oscar this week anyway, he's just had his "rest". Ship long term tho, che midfield is a minefield!

Centre Backs Bonus Bonanza : Dawson

Having bought Dawson and Vidic (despite have Rio in there all week...aaargh) on my WC last week, I found myself taking particular interest in that most mundane part of the game - watching intently as the centre backs play the ball out of the back via short back and forth passes with mids and defs. After watching Rio prance about with the ball in the safety of his own half for most of the game I turned my attention to Michael Dawson and I was quietly confident of a Bonus haul with every touch. He seemed to demand the ball and even sent out 30 yard passes that hit the mark and executed at least one great covering tackle that was heralded with cheers from the Lane faithful. This, allied with the fact that he likes the odd gallop up the middle and his threat from set pieces made me think I had made at least one correct decision on CBs for the week. But, no, Vert gets 2 BAPS and my other spud Eriksen only gets one despite an assist and being in the thick of everything. All I saw Vert do was complain, occasionally lose the ball and get fleeced once or twice, although he does get forward a bit I spose (possible exaggeration due to sour grapes)

The CB bonus plan is a good one judging from my limited 'pass counting' mission on Saturday but, once again, I'm left a bit bewildered by Fantasy Towers and their algorithms of annoyance.

Vidic to Terry methinks this week

Cardiff third in the league for most shots in the box conceded (37). Only Fulham & Crystal Palace are worse. He should come good. Might even (c) him.

I bought Giroud for 8.6 and he is now 9.0

I have gained .2 in total. 0.1 tonight

Does this automatically add to my funds?

E.g. I had 7.9 in the bank before the rise tonight, I should have 8.0 in my bank now, yes?

Yeah, I was actually pretty cross on Saturday about 6pts and thinking of all sorts of points hits, to get him out and strengthen squad but in the end he is explosive and consistent like no other and those fixtures are great. The only argument left for me now is the less reliable streaky Rooney. Sure rvp will score more but 3.5 more?

I saved mine during the international break. Oddly, needed to spend a lot of time on here watching everyone else freak out about their wildcards, transfers and hits - that's what kept my head cool enough to keep my FT. Used them both now (couldn't wait, wife having a baby in the next 48 hours or so I think), but I've got money in the bank to get Suarez next week on a free and it's all good.

    BPS doubt
any reason why BPSare more suited for CB than fb?

ex: Everton Distin and Jagielka each got 2...
I think Coleman outplayed Distin, why did Distin get them? (yes granted baines got 2bps)

      You get BPS for pass completion %. 90% = 3 BPS, 80% = 2 and 70 = 1
CBs make many short passes between each other and generally have a higher pass accuracy than FBs
