Clean sheets are the order of the day once again as Southampton and West Ham play out a goalless draw in Sunday’s only fixture. While the two sides continue to impress defensively, their inability to find the net is a real concern – both have notched just twice over the opening four fixtures:

The Game Changer

Jussi Jaaskelainen’s heroics between the sticks were once again crucial to the Hammers’ prospects today. Helping his side to a vital point at St Mary’s, the Finnish star denied Mauricio Pochettino’s side with five saves to register his third clean sheet in four matches – with just a single goal conceded to Stoke so far, the London outfit have been superb at the back and somewhat atoned for the problems up front which have seen them fail to score in three successive matches.

Up next for the Hammers is a home game against an Everton side that have one goal in three before a trip to Hull – more defensive points look likely before the schedule takes a turn for the worse from Gameweek 7 onwards.

The Underused

Seemingly out of favour under Pochettino, Nathaniel Clyne returned to the Southampton first XI for the first time this term. The right-back turned in an impressive showing and with a couple of bonus points also on the cards, he could return to Fantasy radars after shedding over 24,000 owners and dropping down to 4.4 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) – at least 0.2 cheaper than any other regular in the Saints’ defence.

With four kind home games (CPL, SWA, FUL, HUL) and a trip to Stoke in the next seven, Clyne looks set for further returns as Pochettino’s look to continue a run that has now seen them concede just twice in the opening four Gameweeks.

The Selection Poser

Clyne’s return was one of three changes from Pochettino today as Luke Shaw and Jay Rodriguez were also named in the starting line-up. While Shaw’s return was expected after he proved his fitness for the England Under 21s over the last week, his owners will be concerned after he was subbed off towards the end of the match – the player has since taken to twitter to reveal his withdrawal was due to cramp but his propensity for picking up niggles and failing to last 90 minutes is clearly becoming an issue.

Pochettino’s decision to hand Rodriguez a chance proved frustrating for James Ward-Prowse’s new owners. The youngster had started all of the first three Gameweeks and with a share of set-piece duties and kindly price tag, he was acquired by an extra 57,000 new FPL owners over the two-week international break. Handed an 19-minute second-half cameo towards the end of the stalemate, Ward-Prowse could be set for an exodus if Rodriguez keeps his place.

For the visitors, the second-half introduction of Razvan Rat could be a sign that Sam Allardyce is set to alter his full-back options. The summer signing hadn’t featured in the league prior to today but was sent on just after the hour mark in a move that allowed the versatile Joey O’Brien to switch from left-back to the opposite flank and saw Guy Demel withdrawn instead – perhaps an ominous sign for the Ivorian’s owners over the weeks to come.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Explode as in self destruct? Not explode with excitement and attacking might? I think they'll stay a damp squid for some time. For whatever reason all the new managers of top teams are struggling, their teams playing confused football. Only Martinez has made his team be more impressive. I don't think I even want to watch next weeks Manchester derby.

32 teams to UCL, and 48 to Europa - Though approx top 4 from each league - go to UCL, and the next 3 to Europa. That makes 4x6+3x6=40 teams. Rest are allocated depending on other criteria etc

If Lukaku is nailed on I put him ahead of Benteke

    9.1m Benteke 2800 mins 19 goals
7.4m Lukaku 2000 mins 17 goals (many bench appearances)

With Everton having the better midfield and defence I fancy him to bang them in and force mourinho to consider scrambling to halt his loan in January.

The stats suggest otherwise, I dont think you could argue against Lukaku, @ everton being better value at 7.4 in comparison to Benteke @ Villa being 9.1m

    MJ's bandwagon watch

Ramsey is back to his pre-ShawX best and a year or two more mature but will he stay fit and how nailed on is he? 7/10

Ozil seems a bit overpriced for an assist machine, especially with the new BP system 7/10
Eriksen similar to Ozil but 2m cheaper. Average position was great yesterday. 8/10

Stats for both Ozil and Eriksen both great first match, very involved.

Ben Arfa is Ben Arfa....brilliant when he is fit and on form. New formation benefits him and great price 910

Giroud is in the FPL sweet spot right now...good price, bang on form, nice fixtures, Ozil assisting him 10/10 (if his knee is really OK!)

Benteke is quality. Probably the second most reliable points-man in the game. Fixtures mixed 9/10

Coleman is one of the most attacking full backs in a solid looking defence (surprisingly), fixtures pretty good. Only downside is BP system is weighted against him somewhat. 8/10

Siggy is an old FPL favourite...capable of goals and good fixtures but how long can he stay in the side? 6/10

    Steve Sidwell 😆 1/10

I agree with all but Ozil, I think he'll be huge this season. 1 assist yesterday in a 3-1 win and he gets 1 bonus - not to bad. And I think he'll score close to 10 goals from open play, likely to be on pens too.

You need to go to FPL, see the Points tab? Click that scroll down past your team and click on the fixtures of each game. They expand and you can see. During the game click on detailed stats to see the BPS as it gets added, now you can see the final stats of each match.

You have 7 players in midweek matches.

The risk of injury is present. However a player you want will rise 0.2 in the gw.

    Do you:

    Wait

    Or

Transfer and get money with risk?

Im an accountant. My choice is obvious.

I remember towards the tail end of last year we had the 'belgian bun fight' between Lukaku and Benteke going on. Both scoring in abundance and well priced. If i remember correctly, neither player definitively closed the case of whom to choose- Benteke finished strongly though Lukaku's Fergie- crushing hat trick chucked a spanner in the works.

This time around, Lukaku is much cheaper and seemingly nailed-on in an even better, attacking side. Sure benteke is practically Villa's whole team, but I think Lukaku could emerge as a great bargain. Thoughts?

Lukaku won't be nailed on, he wasn't nailed on at WBA and Shane Long was his competition. Benteke is the best value striker in the game in my opinion. Lukaku should be a great pick too though. Nobody is stopping you having both.
