Do Rooney and RVP not get on with each other? Rooney wants nothing to do with him on the pitch.
Think Rooney has taken to heart Moyes comments about Van Persie being the main man. Given the effort Rooney puts into every game, tracking back, helping the team, for a manager to say that then it's like throwing all of that in your face. There's bound to be some resentment there and Rooney being more selfish to spite Moyes (which may be a positive thing for United).
All this "Rooney bad for RVP" nonsense. As an RVP owner, I look for Rooney on the team sheet!! United play MUCH better with Rooney linking midfield with attack, and that's great for Van Persie's chances.
Before someone quotes me David Moyes stating Rooney will play up top with Van Persie, first think about it. Rooney's natural game is to drop a little deeper... he's always been a no. 10. In my opinion, Moyes said that simply as a charm offensive because he needs him.
Is RVP worth 3.5m more than Rooney? Time will tell, but looking at the Manchester derby with United away, as an RVP owner I definitely want a fit and firing Rooney pulling the strings.
The shots get split between the strikers, even if the total shots increase. As an RVP owner I don't want him around.
But United don't look like creating chances without Rooney?
Check the stats from last season. RVP's PPG dipped considerably when he played with Rooney. He drifts out wide more.
And further check the stats. Rooney's PPG dropped notably when he played with RVP.

Teams always ease off slightly after the first goal (subconsciously or otherwise). With Rooney on the pitch then there's simply someone else on the pitch capable of scoring that first goal.
I haven't examined the stats - maybe there are other factors responsible - but just looking at the way United play, RVP leads the line and Rooney links the play.
