Despite being handed a harsh lesson at the Etihad, it seems that the number crunchers at Paddy Power are tipping a United backlash come three o’clock at Old Trafford on Saturday. West Brom look to be in the firing line with Paddy’s odds suggesting goals for the front pairing and a day off for David De Gea in goal. Here’s the current anytime scorer and clean sheet odds from our bookmaker friends ahead of the Gameweek.

While Fantasy managers wait on news of Robin van Persie’s availability, Paddy has no qualms about backing the Dutchman to deal damage this weekend. Van Persie is at 1/2 to notch anytime against West Brom at Old Trafford, with team-mate Wayne Rooney also strongly tipped at 4/5 to find the net. With an array of the midfield also ranking high on the odds list, it’s clear that United are expected to recover from the derby day mauling to dish out some punishment to Steve Clarke’s side.

City’s own Sergio Aguero is next up on the goalscoring odds, with Paddy lining him up at 5/6 to notch at Villa Park. Paddy clearly see this one as another one-sided affair and, again, there’s a batch of City players well fancied with the likes of David Silva, Yaya Toure and Samir Nasri all ranked highly when it comes to midfield scorers.

Surprisingly perhaps, Southampton’s Rickie Lambert is strongly backed to score only his second goal of the season when he faces up to the Crystal Palace defence at St Mary’s. Priced at 10/11 by Paddy Power, Lambert ranks above the likes of Luis Suarez, Daniel Sturridge and Olivier Giroud here, giving Fantasy managers some food for thought going into the Gameweek. With just the opening day spot-kick to show for his efforts, the Saints’ striker has suffered heavy sales in recent weeks and has dropped back down to 7.5 in the Fantasy Premier League price list.

Romelu Lukaku is clearly another mid-price asset to consider. Priced at evens to score his second goal for the Toffees against Newcastle at Goodison, having opened his account from the bench at Upton Park last weekend. Again, Fantasy managers will look on this with interest given that the Belgian is currently more fancied to find the net than Sturridge and Giroud.

Lukaku’s team-mate and compatriot, Kevin Mirallas, is the highest ranked midfielder on show at 9/5 to score against the Magpies. He leads a string of United options and Swansea’s Michu, who is 2/1 to score against the visiting Gunners. Interestingly, both Aaron Ramsey and Mesut Ozil, who have enjoyed substantial Fantasy investment this week, are out at 3/1 to score at the Liberty. Indeed, Stoke City’s midfield pairing of Jon Walters and Marko Arnautovic are considered more likely scorers in the Gameweek at 21/10 and 23/10 respectively for their home tie with Norwich.

If you’re considering a dabble on any of these odds, you should know that Paddy have a big Money Back Special on offer for all Premier League matches over the Gameweek. If a match should end in a draw, Paddy will refund all losing First Goalscorer, Last Goalscorer, Correct Score and Scorecast bets on the match.

Just as Van Persie and Rooney dominate the scoring odds, the United back four is strongly backed at 5/6 to come away with a shut-out when West Brom pay visit. The Baggies may have notched three goals against the Black Cats but the odds are against them making a dent on the United back four.

Mauricio Pochettino’s steely Saints are up next, with odds of 10/11 on a clean sheet at home to Ian Holloway’s Palace. The visitors are struggling for a cutting edge and with Southampton having conceded just two in five league outings, they look primed for defensive investment in the Gameweek.

Paddy can’t separate Liverpool and Man City at 6/5 with both teams facing away trips against sides with clear issues up front. Liverpool’s opponent, Sunderland, have concerns over Steven Fletcher’s fitness, while Christian Benteke is out and Gabby Agbonlahor a doubt for Paul Lambert’s outfit when they entertain City.

Leighton Baines’ owners will take comfort in seeing Everton ranked next at 5/4, with Stoke offering the next best value in the mid-price bracket with odds of 13/10 for the shut-out against struggling Norwich at the Britannia. Marc Wilson seems a sound investment and likely Scout Pick, then, as Stoke look set to present the best all-round differential package in attack and defence. Fulham are their rivals in the Gameweek – neglected by Fantasy managers thus far, they are at 8/5 for the clean sheet against Cardiff at the Cottage, with Dimitar Berbatov and Darren Bent at 6/4 for an anytime goal.

@ Granville, I think you need to seriously rethink. Apart from Ozil, Rooney, baines and Suarez, none o four players are WC essentials.

I think you need Michu and to downgrade Baines and Suarez to give yourself more balance with the likes is Giroud and Coleman

Also mignolet is a total no brainer

Oscar - Yaya - Michu - Barkley (whittingham)

If you are tempted to take a few hits or even Wildcard, log out of FPL for the next 24 hours.

There might be some positive team news tomorrow - or even news of a few more surprise injuries, and waiting until you have all of the necessary information from press conferences could be critical before making such big decisions.

Any update on van Persie? Any news from M:shock:yes?

I know Rooney is rising at the moment, but I want to be 100% sure that van Persie is out before I even contemplating a - 8. If van Persie is out and I do take the risk, Rooney will also be my captain choice this week. He looks really up for it, in form, confident and as fit as I have seen. He is everywhere at the moment and also getting into the box. With van Persie out, he'll be on the FK's, pens and a few corners. When van Persie is back, dont be surprised if he still takes a fair share of the corners and the FK's. He's been lethal with them of late!

I think the likelihood of him getting a brace, or a goal and a assist, or even possibly more than that, is more likely than West Brom frustrating and keeping the scores low....in my opinion. 😆

    - I support Liverpool if thats worth anything at all? But I know and appreciate class when I see it, and Wayne Rooney has been CLASS so far under M:shock:yes.

Anyone care to look at my team and vote on WC or no WC. Already done Soldado and HBA to Rooney and Barkley for -4. Did the moves before the RVP and Walcott news and now I am in trouble with Chester out as well and some general shaitness in my team along with horrible team value. Id probably hold on if RVP was fit but I really cant see him playing if they have any doubts over him.

WC is wasted if you play it on a Thursday night, you want to be capturing price rises by playing it at the start of the game week.

You have got money stuck on the bench admittedly, but you can get out 11 out, Lamps admittedly a rotation risk but think he will probably start against `Spurs

Hot Buys and Ones to watch

    Dejan Lovren 5.0M (3.7% ownership)
The former Lyon defender was always regarded as talented defender and has competed against the best attacks in Europe in the Champions League. His arrival at Southampton was something of a coup, and he has presented himself well in his few appearances for the club. A solid tough-tackling defender who showcased his aerial presence with a neatly taken headed goal to hand league leaders Liverpool their first defeat in the Premier League. Southampton have managed 3 clean sheets already and he nailed the maximum bonus on 2 of those occasions and has benefited from the Bonus Points System (BPS). A thoroughly reliable performer, you could have him in for the long run as well as the short term with that price.

    Leighton Baines 7.5M (25.1% ownership)
Although many have baulked at his premium price before the season began, he still managed to land up a sizeable ownership level and the bandwagon looks to be starting as early as the 5th Gameweek. Despite him being priced at almost a midfielder’s level, he has shown time and again each season that his price is representative of his value. Overshadowed by his fellow fullback partner Coleman in the earlier weeks, one game and two free kicks later, he is the highest scoring player in the #FPL bar none. This has to be compared against Premium level strikers such as Van Persie and Giroud and Sturridge. And this is why we want you to assume that he is a defender who is almost as good as many other midfielders at similar prices. He has been a bonus-point magnet with 10 in 4 games (of which 3 were clean sheets), and has a mouth-watering clash this week against the inconsistently bad Newcastle. I tip him to topple the 200-point barrier this season.

    Robbie Brady 5.2M (8.6% ownership)
The former Man United youth prospect, who failed to get many opportunities at Old Trafford, is now living it up with top-level players of the Premier League. The most talented of the newly promoted Hull side, he has set pieces and penalties in his locker as well. With such a budget-friendly price, it’s no surprise to see that he is rapidly gaining more and more selections in the FPL squads. Has already notched in 2 goals and an assist, he was the savior of many a depleted squad last weekend. Expect him to provide able backup in your squads as a rotating player who also has a tidy home game against West Ham this weekend.

    Oscar 8.7M (11.9% ownership)
The Brazilian wonderkid who is now rapidly progressing into a world-beater, he has been tipped by Mourinho to take up the mantle of the attacking midfielder in the hole, replacing last season’s excellent Juan Mata. As nailed as can be with the plethora of choices in the Chelsea midfield, Mourinho’s insistence in molding his team around Oscar lands him firmly in our sights. Already chipped in with 2 goals, and 2 maximum bonuses, he is rapidly entering his bandwagon period and you would do well to snap him up before he rises further. An easy selection for many who need to replace the injured Theo Walcott in their teams.

    Sergio Aguero 11.0M (11.3% ownership)
The man who orchestrated and clinched the Premier League title for Manchester City, he endured a barren season last time with persistent injury problems from the start, and lean spells of scoring for Mancini’s City boys. Looks to have returned fresher this time around, his big game influence showed once again as he helped demolish their eternal rivals last weekend. A natural born goal scorer with oodles of pace, he looks to have added that steel and strength into his tiny frame to cope with the struggles of the Premier League. He is certainly City’s number one option in the forward line, and despite the threat of rotation around Champions League games, he simply is too important for them to leave on the bench. Took his tally to 3 goals last game with 2 assists as well, he has returned attacking points in 3 of the 4 games he has started. And another who has claimed the maximum bonus points twice, whenever he scores, City look to be on the rampage for goals. Choose him carefully and he might reward you with another outstanding season. Not to mention the tasty fixture of Aston Villa next up.

    Luis Suarez 10.9M (3.4% ownership)
The definition of the “Hot Buy” this weekend, Suarez returns raring to unleash his pent-up fury at Premier League defences for another season. A player who tallied 23 goals and 10 assists last season despite his numerous suspensions on various occasions, there can be almost no better option for our strike force. His explosive potential is highlighted by his 2 hat-tricks and 3 braces last year, and is rightly considered an armband choice whenever he is available. Linking up with in-form Sturridge provided initial doubts, but his performance in the COC game against Man Utd neatly deflected those doubts away. Liverpool even trialed a 3-4-1-2 formation in that match, with him partnering Sturridge with Victor Moses behind them. Expect another outstanding season from this maverick forward who has bottom of the pile and manager less Sunderland for his first game in his FPL season.

    Ones to Watch/Cheapies

    Michael Dawson 5.1M (11.0% ownership)
Tottenham have managed to keep out their opponents 4 out of 5 games this season. With Dawson keeping his place despite competition from Kaboul and Chiriches, it might still be profitable to have him until he is dropped from the first team.

    Marc Wilson 4.5M (1.9% ownership)
Stoke may be playing a different brand of football, but their strong defensive steel and resilience does not look to have disappeared. Have already kept two sterling clean sheets, and with Wilson playing as an ‘out of position’ player in the midfield, he could be profitable when Stoke can keep their opponents out, and he just might pop in with a goal/assist.

One thing I noticed about Wilson that troubles me, as he lost his place to Palacios a more defensive mid it might be a factor. Wilson has been dribbled past the most in the PL so far so he seems to be struggling defensively despite looking well overall.

    (A) Ozil and Lukaku or (B) Paulinho and Suarez.

On my wildcard, already have Ramsey, and and leaning towards the latter as Suarez is most viable captain choice of those 4 against inferior opposition (starting w/ Crystal Palace next gameweek).

Lukaku at 7.4m is extremely tempting and will be at 7.8m+ within a month if he can bang them in at Everton but Suarez didn't disappoint me last season.

Worth noting my other two strikers are Rooney/Sturridge and I would trade Sturridge (or Suarez) for either Soldado or Benteke in a few weeks after Liverpool's fixtures weaken. Any takers?

Think so - I read some comments from Mourinho when he went on loan justifying the move because he would play "every week" so surely Martinez guaranteed some type of starting role when discussing w/ Lukaku. 17 goals last season and just 7.4m even if he ends with 12-14 in the league will be a bargain.
