In our latest look at the Sky Sports game, we bring you the usual Gameweek data ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, bonus point winners and the current market trends all come under analysis before we examine the forthcoming Gameweek and our preferred captain setup.

Gameweek 5 Man of the Match Awards

Listed below are last weekend’s top performers according to Sky Sports reporters, with each recipient of the Man of the Match award earning an additional 5 points.

FixtureMoTM
Norwich vs Aston VillaBrad Guzan
Liverpool vs SouthamptonDejan Lovren
Newcastle vs HullSone Aluko
West Brom vs SunderlandMorgan Amalfitano
West Ham vs EvertonLeighton Baines
Chelsea vs FulhamOscar
Arsenal vs StokeMathieu Flamini
Crystal Palace vs SwanseaMichu
Cardiff vs TottenhamDavid Marshall
Man City vs Man UnitedYaya Toure

Last weekend’s fixtures saw two goalkeepers, a couple of defenders, five midfielders and one forward shared the awards. West Brom’s new midfield acquisition Morgan Amalfitano has now achieved MotM in both his games so far. Having also produced a goal and assist, the Frenchman has amassed an impressive 22 points already and looks to be decent option at only 5.4m, although there are tough fixtures for the Baggies ahead. Hull’s Sone Aluko also deserves a mention – he seems to be quite a favorite of the Sky reporting team and has claimed two MoTM awards so far.

Gameweek 5 Bonus Points

Last weekend, six goalkeepers achieved bonus points as a result of making five saves or more. Simon Mignolet and David Stockdale were in impressive form again and both have now achieved bonus points in three matches so far. Cardiff’s David Marshall racked up an impressive 11 saves at home to Tottenham, narrowly missing out on a clean sheet due to Paulinho’s late goal.

In defence, 12 players fetched bonus, nine for tackles and three for passes completed – Southampton’s centre-back Dejan Lovren has managed bonus points in three of his five games; he was also the top points scorer overall (19) last weekend, for his role in the Saints’ shock victory over Liverpool.

In midfield, 17 players picked up bonus -11 for tackling and nine for passes completed. Gareth Barry and Jon Obi-Mikel were the two players managing both although neither will be likely to see much investment due to their deep-lying roles and lack of attacking potential. Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsey is the real bonus magnet at present, achieving bonus points seven times in 5 matches – on average it takes him just 34 minutes pitch time to gain bonus.

Fantasy Football Scout members can access all information regarding bonus points using player stats and clicking the Sky Sports tab.

The Transfer Trends

Top Transfers Out

NameTeamValue% of Managers
CoutinhoLiverpool7.86.92%
Van PersieMan Utd105.63%
BentekeAston Villa95.18%
RoseTottenham4.74.11%
WalcottArsenal8.52.45%

Injury dominates Fantasy managers’ thoughts here. Philippe Coutinho, Christian Benteke and Theo Walcott are definitely ruled out this weekend, though the latest news however suggests that Tottenham’s left-back Danny Rose could feature from the start and that Robin Van Persie could play some part in Man United’s home tie to West Brom, according to David Moyes earlier today.

Top Transfers In

NameTeamValue% of Managers
RamseyArsenal5.87.97%
OzilArsenal8.85.75%
GiroudArsenal8.54.96%
Ben ArfaNewcastle5.94.04%
OscarChelsea7.63.65%

Maintaining the theme from the last few weeks, Arsenal players find themselves shifted into Fantasy teams at an ever increasing rate – form and fixtures continue to justify heavy investment. Chelsea’s Oscar – seemingly Jose Mourinho’s preferred option to be fielded in “the hole” – comes in at a respectable 7.6m, though it remains to be seen if he will fall victim to further rotation in the coming months as the schedule picks up pace.

Gameweek 6 Proposed Captain Strategy

Time to cast an eye at Gameweek 6 and where to place the captain’s armband. Again we highlight two options, one with the potential for three captains (albeit with a transfer used) and the other a more cautious approach with only two captains used – this tactic will prepare you for the next Gameweek.

Captain Option 1

You have a captain playing in Saturday’s fixtures and use a transfer to switch to one taking part in Sunday’s encounter; you then use your captain change to select a player from Monday night’s game. If you followed our advice last week you should be coming into this Gameweek with the armband on a Manchester United player. For example:

Our Strategy:
Wayne Rooney → Luis Suarez → Romelu Lukaku

Using the above strategy you would go into Gameweek 7 with the armband on Romelu Lukaku who plays on Saturday October 5 away to Manchester City.

Captain Option 2

You have a captain playing Saturday and use a captain change to a player featuring in Sunday’s/Mondays matches. Missing out on 3 captains but keeping hold of a valuable sub. For example:

Our Strategy:
Alvaro Negredo → Luis Suarez

Using this method you would come into Gameweek 7 with Luis Suarez as your captain for Liverpool’s home clash with Crystal Palace next Saturday.

The Fantasy Football Scout League

Make sure your joined up to our own Fantasy Football Scout League this season which is currently top of the Private League rankings. Ronh you were wrong,
So read this like a song.
      Pellegrini did not rest,
As the red flag does attest.

      As for RVP,
      You surely do agree,
He has not played just yet,
So has not found the net.

If you wanted to be right,
There's a striker with more bite,
      He is playing Sunderland,
      And deserved the Captain's Band.

Just did a quick scout of Arnautovic from the Match of the Day highlights of Arsenal v Stoke. Couple of other observations from that game but will focus on Arnie. If you want to spot him, Arnie is #10.

    http://www.footytube.com/video/arsenal-stoke-city-sep22-225983?ref=tchan_ov_vidgrid

3.06 Arnie runs onto a cross from a left wing position and hits the post, getting an assist from Cameron's rebound. Jones definitely playing as the CF there but drifted right allowing Arnie to run in.
3.58 Arnie very deep at left wing, behind the play.
4.12 Arnie behind the play and making very little effort to defend on the left wing at walking pace while Arsenal cut through them. To be fair his direct opponent Gnabry was also behind the play but he showed little awareness of those around him including Sagna, who wasn't behind the play.
6.50 Defending better on the left wing tracking Ozil's run
9.06 Pennant has been brought on for Jones. In this attack down the left, now Arnie appears to be playing right wing, not center forward. Walters is in a center forward position.
9.26 Arnie on right wing and again very deep.

In summary based off these limited observations (full replays of the games are my holy grail) Arnie is deeper than I expected and also contrary to my expectations was shifted to right wing instead of center forward after the center forward Jones was subbed off. Generally speaking he looked very apathetic and barely broke a sweat. All in keeping with his high skill low effort 'Ibra' stereotype, I guess.

    Other general observations:
Ramsey still playing advanced, often one of the two most advanced players, and continuing to get shots in the box. May differ against the much better midfield of Swansea though.
Gnabry dribbling well and had a few shots without end product.
Stoke defence looks much more disorganized than last season, with all three goals conceded from set pieces, against Arsenal of all people. Probably a side effect of playing admittedly much more open and attractive football under Hughes. Admittedly they did keep CS against West Ham and City, though West Ham offer very little threat and City were playing their second team. Putting me off getting Wilson despite their good fixtures.

Surely the point has to be made that away to Arsenal, Stoke will generally play deep, without the ball and attempt to hit on the break.

We may find out more from the coming run of winnable fixtures, though having said that, it may be too late by then.

That's why I snapped him up late last night 😉

Oh of course yeah it's reasonable to expect Stoke, and Arnautovic to attack more in fixtures that aren't away to Arsenal.

Definitely one of the perennial dilemmas in fantasy football, information against time to act on it. I think I'll just have to take the risk of waiting to see how he does against Norwich. Good luck.

Not seeing the Oscar appeal at the min, ramsey in red hot form and oscar doesnt seem much of a goalscorer just yet, struggling to see where to improve this as I dont think pumping it into defense is the way forward

    Oh well it's too late now I've already done the unthinkable and gotten rid of RVP. Did;

Soldado for Rooney/Suares Dilemma: advice please

    1--For HIT -4 Would u rekomend dropping Soldado for Rooney x Wbr h/or Suarez x Sun a
(hopping either can outdo the hit -4 w/a goal or assist etc)
    or
2--Play Soldado x Che h? (and drop him tomorrow for FT)

Meh. Final WC team i think. Not that happy with it. Would love some help:

    Mignolet Davis
    Coleman Nasty Wilson Fonte B.Turner
    Ozil Eriksen Brady Barkley Michu
    Sturridge Rooney Giroud

    Worried about:
-Studge over Suarez (can't afford the u'grade)
    -Nasty over Zab (same problem)
-Brady (Clearly injured (subbed twice)) - but cant think of anyone better at that price.
-Fonte over Clyne -sensible or save the 0.3?

    Suarez - Rooney - Lukaku
