The final installment in our Watchlist refresh round-up has us examining the options up front, where we find the clamour for the template lineup is en vogue. Such is the form of the heavy-hitters, our forward lines almost pick themselves with five clear candidates emerging – Robin van Persie is, however, not amongst them.

There’s little argument that Fantasy managers need to consider arming themselves with a Liverpool striker. The dilemma is, of course, which of Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge should be the target. Right now, it’ s almost impossible to separate the two but, for now, we’re coming down on the side of Sturridge, with his Uruguayan strike partner showing just a little bit of rust when it comes to his shooting on his two-goal return at the Stadium of Light.

Sturridge delivered both of Suarez’s goals on a platter in the 3-1 win, earning himself a brace of assists to go with a first-half goal. That demonstrated that the England man could keep pace with Suarez and, for now, with the price difference favouring Sturridge, that’s enough to just give him the edge. Saturday’s events at Anfield could swing that back to Suarez, however.

Those two top the Watchlist rankings, leaving United’s Wayne Rooney and Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud to battle it out for our attentions. A slight injury concern and David Moyes’ obvious options to rotate Rooney in the weeks to come just give Giroud the edge, with the Frenchman holding in third following his assist in the win at Swansea. The Gunners man is without a goal in his last two and will need to get back in the saddle at West Brom this weekend if he is to avoid a sudden cull, such is the competition for a place in our forward lines.

Romelu Lukaku’s emergence in Monday night’s 3-2 win over Newcastle added to that fierce scramble for our striker slots. The Belgian is, without question, a major consideration given his form and price point. Enthusiasm is tempered somewhat by the trip to City this weekend but, following that, the Goodison clash with Hull will surely lead to increased investment. While he doesn’t boast the kind of favourable fixtures that bless the Liverpool pairing and Rooney, we’ve every reason to believe that Lukaku will prove a handful for any rearguard and offer points potential that could well keep pace with the heavy-hitters currently ranking above him.

That all means that both Robin van Persie and Roberto Soldado drop out of our top five. For Van Persie, his recent lack of pitch time has been hugely damaging. With Rooney scoring consistent points via his dead-ball strikes, the outlay for Van Persie can hardly be justified, particularly given the current trend that makes three strong scoring forwards the tactic of choice. Those holding the United man will need to see an upturn in form that surpasses Rooney and the Liverpool pair for him to prevent more owners from jumping ship. Blank at Sunderland and we would anticipate major sales over the international break.

Soldado is another striker of huge potential who is currently struggling to convince. The two spot-kick goals that opened the season perhaps disguised the fact that the Spaniard was taking his time to adjust. Spurs are creating chances, they’re just not resulting in goals and, while we see an upturn in fortunes for Soldado, it’s questionable if he can currently be backed above the established form strikers right now.

Indeed, there’s a strong argument that both Rickie Lambert and Loic Remy should be above the Spurs man in our rankings. Both notched in Gameweek 6, with Remy now having scored three in three matches for Alan Pardew’s Magpies. Lambert has the fixtures to boost his tally further, with St Mary’s meetings with Swansea, Fulham and Hull in the next five. Remy is not so blessed and will need to show fixture proof form in his next two home encounters with Liverpool and Chelsea.

The 7.5 spend on either Lambert or Remy could, arguably, be the minimum outlay on a forward right now given the consistency in the higher price brackets. Budget options are available but perhaps not advisable as investments. Cardiff’s Frazier Campbell has fixtures that could see him add to his two-goal tally thus far, although there is some threat from Peter Odemwingie here if Malky Mackay chooses to field Craig Bellamy and bring the Nigerian inside.

With Southampton’s Jay Rodriguez an uncertain starter, it leaves us looking at Darren Bent of Fulham at 6.5, Andreas Weimann of Villa at 6.0 and Sone Aluko of Hull at 5.0 as options. West Brom’s Saido Berahino, at just 4.5 in the FPL, is another candidate to monitor. Offering a rock-bottom budget option, if he can cement a starting role over both Nicolas Anelka and Shane Long, he would certainly provide an option for those requiring to free up frunds from their forward line.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

The more and more I think about it, the more I'm tempted to captain Giroud...

I want to captain Rooney, but I am unwilling to risk captaining a flagged player...

Sure Giroud hasn't scored for a couple in the league, but he scored midweek so will still be high on confidence, Arsenal are playing some lovely football at the minute, and there will definitely be goals in this one... (2-2, 2-3, 1-2 in recent years)

I know Sturridge (or Suarez, for those who have him) is the favoured option for almost everyone, but I just have this feeling they will struggle to score like they always do against these teams...

Mariappa and Reading did this to them last year, and he has a chance to do it again, even though every man and his dog would tell you to captain Suarez or Sturridge, I just have to go with my feeling on this and avoid them...

I don't know if I'm trying to convince myself or convince you guys, or whether or not I'm just saying this so I am forced to go through with it, or whatever... I am basically just thinking out loud, but as of now...

    Giroud (c)

    And it feels good...

Realistically, even if I'm wrong and Liverpool do score 3-4 goals, I really only need Giroud to get 8-10pts to soften the blow...

Even then, it depends entirely on how the points are split... Liverpool could score 3 and Sturridge could still blank... it's possible...

Zep, anything is possible. But if we are talking probability, very slim chance that Sturridge won't be involved in any of the 3 goals. In fact, he has a crazy goal involvement rate at Liverpool.

The only point I like in your argument is that Liverpool could struggle against Crystal Palace, just like they do sometimes against smaller teams. I feel I haven't gone for a differential in a long time, so I want to go either Ozil/Eriksen over Sturridge, but can't say where the armband will end up.

The thing is, if I'm wrong Liverpool score 2-3, but then Giroud matches Sturridges points then parity is restored...

But if I'm right and Sturridge blanks, then I could make a decent leap up the table with a Giroud haul on Sunday...

Tbh I can't really be too focused on Suarez, since I wouldn't have his points anyway regardless of how he performs...

The only risk is Sturridge scoring well, and then Giroud blanking, but that is just as likely as the it being the other way around IMO...

I agree with you on a few points.

Firstly, big teams often fail to provide the kind of points we expect against lesser teams. I have dozens of examples of this. Liverpool are one of the main culprits as well!

Secondly, Arsenal are playing well, look to be dangerous going forward, have the best assister on the planet ... captaining their nailed on CF isn't too big a risk.

Ian Holloway is stupid enough to leave his weak, injury ravaged defence exposed.

But Holloway insisted: "It's a wonderful opportunity for us to put right what's been going wrong.

"We have to be more attacking, it's who dares wins. That was the Blackpool approach, to be more daring. We've worked hard on that this week.

"We have players who can attack but they are coming back too far to defend, so we have to be a little bit braver and we are working on it.

"The proof is in the pudding, can we get at Liverpool? Can we take our chances, and will life look a little bit better afterwards?

"It's tough, it's not easy at this level but you have to believe in what you do. We'll keep plugging away. People will rubbish us but no one knows how many points we'll get.

"If we keep doing what we are doing we'll get what we've got, which is nowt. So we have to be adventurous."

      From http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/liverpool-v-crystal-palace-ian-holloway-ready-to-go-on-the-attack-at-anfield--who-dares-wins-8859249.html

Hmmm, that is a very insightful post, but I question his intentions in saying all that...

His quote at the end is quite revealing IMO...

"Yes, we've worked on it, we've got to deal with it and then we've got to say 'how can we counter- attack and throw that punch'?"

This suggests to me that what he is talking about it is his teams ability to strike when they have the chance, not recklessly attack and leave themselves exposed at the back... cos if they do that, they will get hammered...

I'm convinced they will be more defensive than you might at first think after reading this article...

        Thanks for the link...

Suarez was an exceptional case. He was nailed on but hadn't played before because of a ban.

Mata is a different matter, as he is still not nailed on.

I'm trying to decide on which Tottenham mid to bring in for HBA. I would go for Eriksen, but I'm worried he won't play on Sunday.

Which of these do we think will start: Siggy, Paulinho, Eriksen?
