The community has spent the two-week international break assessing some long-term transfer decisions and pondering whether there is now an established template team – and, if so, how the devil do we dismantle it? The concept of a “power three” at the back was also discussed, while an array of community tournaments rumbled on.

The Hottest Topics

The Sarjeant has been undertaking some long term planning research and come up with this handy guide to the fixtures and potential form right up until Gameweek 20’s January wildcard. This gives a fascinating look at the forthcoming 13 fixtures and the best teams to load up on. Among the most enticing sides over this period, according to The Sarjeant, are Chelsea and Aston Villa.

It’s a double mention in this week’s round up for The Sarjeant, who has also been looking at factors behind the template team that has been highlighted in our Breaking the Template articles (part one and part two). A key factor in this team, he argues, is a genuine lack of goals and increase in clean sheets compared to last year. His comparison offers a good indication as to why so few attackers are catching our eye.

The 3rdTurd has also been looking closely at our template team analysis and sparked an interesting debate about the make up of the top ten players’ teams.

Last season was all about the “power five” midfield. Could this year see the emergence of the power three defence? I Love Hits certainly thinks so and plenty agree, with the likes of John Terry, Jan Vertonghen and Leighton Baines among those vying for a place in this exclusive defensive line up.

Wakey has been on hand with his latest list of ‘falling stars’, assessing players whose price has dropped below their initial Fantasy Premier League evaluation. His Gameweek 8 falling star side includes David De Gea, Ashley Williams and Stephane Sessegnon. It also features an astonishingly discounted front line that includes Robin Van Persie and Christian Benteke. Sadly Romelu Lukaku will now have to drop off his list, as the Belgian striker finally clawed his way back to his starting price of 8.0 earlier this week.

With Manchester United and Liverpool opting for a front two formation Kostja wonders whether we are better off investing in teams with a lone striker like Everton or Aston Villa, where their frontmen are unlikely to share points. He points to the difference in shots on target offered by Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez from game to game as an example of the limitations of investing in one of a strike pairing.

D1sable has been left frustrated season after season by Theo Walcott and Leighton Baines. He always seems to miss their points hauls and transfers them in when just as their form dips. He asked the community to list their most frustrating players and Matt Tomatoe, Mayor Quimbandwagon and Get Yout Baps Out! were among those to share his frustration of jumping on the Baines-wagon just as the points dried up.

After his stunning brace in Gameweek 7 there is huge anticipation surrounding David Moyes’ latest young star Adnan Januzaj. Autobot RVP Brigade has used the commotion as a hook to investigate how Moyes’s previous teenage talents, Wayne Rooney and Ross Barkley, have fared in terms of appearances and performance under his tutelage.

Community Tournaments

In Torres Magic’s Early Bird competition just two players remain: Stephen Woods and LawnDart. TM’s Last Man Standing competition has 757 survivors after 44 failed the safety score of 24. Codes for TM’s other 5 leagues can be found here.

Meanwhile the FFS UEFA Beach Soccer Tournament team line ups will be released this week ahead of the competition’s set of friendly fixtures in Gameweek 8. For more details visit their blog here. We have also set up a dedicated article for the community to discuss the tournament here.

I think all my rivals are getting Lukaku this GW.

With my strike force of Suarez-Giroud-Rooney i just can't bring myself to pull the trigger on either one of them. Form + fixtures are just too good.

    Am i screwed?

No, your front 3 is great. Lukaku is completely essential 😉

I had the exact same front 3 at the end of GW 7, brought in Rooney for Lukaku with one of my 2 FTs.
Might not turn out to be the best move come GW 8 , so just sit tight and hope for the best!

No, all three of your strikers are as good and probably better strikers than Lukaku overall.

Of course Lukaku has a good fixture and could explode this week but so could all three of your strikers just as easily.

This. When people are justifying getting a player in, they say "he could explode" without considering that the player they are ditching very well could explode himself.

yeah i have the same roo girou and suarez - and i have the exact same dilemma. don't really wanna drop any of them. keep telling myself that hull have been pretty decent defensively and could keep out the beast. but then again soton have been strong defensively too...

the other thing for me is it is helping fund collins > terry at the back, which i am uber-keen on.

        collins > terry
        rooney > lukaku

        love the look of it...

        haha gotta love this game!!

I wouldn't sell any of those, all have excellent fixtures this GW and are pretty much guaranteed a starting spot. If those are your biggest concerns, you could easily get away with saving one of your FTs this GW.

    Thanks for any advice! 🙂

Dawson (not sure about assured starts?)
Wilson (same as above, playing horribly)
    Eriksen (not performing)
    Ozil (injury risk)
    Brady (same as above)
    Barkley (got Lukaku and Baines)
    Giroud (average performances..)

I wouldn't really transfer any of those out, like The Sheik said,

Dawson seems nailed on for now, since Kaboul is still out ( I think ) .

Wilson on the other hand, is less nailed on IMO. Horrible performances, and surely Palacios will return to the line up soon, and Wilson will probably be the one to make way for him.

So, it's Wilson > Ivanovic for me. If you already have Chelsea cover, then GJ or B. Davies could be alternative options.

If I did Wilson > Terry, I'd be left with -1.6 in the bank so I need to downgrade either Ozil (would have 8.8 to spend) or Eriksen (6.6). Got Davies already and Migs for Liv so getting Terry seems a must. Is Davies set to play this weekend?

Silva's ownership is nice and low vs that of yaya. Even Mata(if given gametime) could be a nice differential and a way of breaking up the "template" midfield.

I'm very tempted with either one of him and Silva. Silva had 90min and Mata 60min over Spain's 2 fixtures in the Int break.

I'm hoping one or both of them are able to break this yaya strong hold in the midfield.

I've watched most Chelsea games he's played. Great player, one of my favorite Chelsea players at the moment, but I don't think he has the consistency in terms of key passes and goals to be a genuine option. Mourinho isn't exactly going all-out attack either.

RMT was a great tool to follow last year - but it seems to have lost it's touch this time around. But it was ultimately my choice to bring in the likes of Coutinho, Walcott, Soldado and RVP and I can't blame the tool for not being an injury predictor.

Forca, RMT is a fantastic tool when you apply common sense. It cannot read into the future. It simply tells you what is most LIKELY to happen given the CURRENT conditions.

If you use it long term, the probabilities will average out and you'll end up scoring highly. Provided unpredictable events don't continue to happen so frequently... Strange season this.

Worried about missing out on good fixtures...

It would be RIDICULOUS to take 2 hits to do OZIL and BRADY to WALCOTT and OSCAR right?

Longterm I expect them to do better, even short term in fact, but should I do them over next 2 weeks or pull the trigger and reap immediate rewards?

    Jerky I know....

RIDICULOUS (especially in caps) is a big word. It doesn't look good though, at all. Wally probably not even start.

I just wish we get next weekend games out of the way, seems like I can't get over my Rooney => Lukaku transfer earlier this week.

Every night I see same dream, well it's actually fact from last season, to be even more spesific it's fact from last october....Tevez had a great game coming, but everyone wanted Berbatov and I saw him as "season keeper" - need to get him in fast before his price goes up too much.
Berba blanked maybe seven weeks in a row, Tevez got a hat trick or something like that in his good fixture that gw.
There was no real reason to make that move. Next three weeks after that ruined my whole season. I won't do same mistake again I promised.

Still, season 2013-2014 and I wake up in the middle of the night SCREAMING and sweating, I see Lukaku 2 points - Rooney running towards Moyes, I'm not sure if it's a brace or a hat trick.

Januzaj or Ravel Morrison to replace JWP as cost effective Mid ?
I'm thinking Morrison might start more..hmm.

Do I play Erikson or Barkley this GW?

Already have Lukaku and Coleman, feel reluctant to play all three in one week (eggs in one basket mentality)

    Thoughts?

Rationale for it? I agree but only cause I don't want to be exposed should Everton hull be a 0-0 affair, not because I think erkison will score more points.

you don't play 8mil for a player and bench vs Villa
although i would want to play barkley, who else could you bench?

Play Barkley. Not sure if I have a rationale for it, call it a gut feeling. I think it's close between those two. Barkley has the home advantage and the form, Erikson is (supposedly) the better player playing for the better team.

Nice! Played every game from CM4 until present, besides last year. Never tried FM13, neither 14. Those games are seriously dangerous, I've played CM/FM for soooo many hours.

FM14 is a big change tactically in that they've removed sliders and instead added lots more instructions and revamped that part of the game. You got personalized player instructions now that are saved for positions. It's beautiful. Plus loads more roles. If you preorder you get the beta now! 😀

Also the new 3D engine looks great.

If he misses out at the weekend it will be with the CL in mind rather than a long-term injury, by all accounts.

Need to use a transfer this week..

    Any Suggestions??

    Migs/Henderson

    Baines - Vidic - Wilson - Clyne - Turner

    Ozil - Michu - Paulinho - Morrison - Brady

    Rooney - Suarez - Lukaku

    2FT - 0 in the bank

    - Could do Ozil/Paulinho/Brady > Walcott/Oscar/Yacob -4

    (A) Ozil - Silva
    (B) Ozil - Oscar

I plan to get Walcott for Eriksen when fit.

My WC team is nearly finalised. Just a couple more decisions left

    Townsend or Adnan?

    Team at mo:-

    Boruc /speroni

    Johnson/Chico/clyne/terry/Coleman

    Walcott/oscar/michu/ravel/ Townsend or adnan

    Suarez / lukaku / Tekkers

Dont mind the odd punt as think I can happily play 4 or 5 at the back sometimes.

Got on adnan at 4.6 so if I chose andros I'll lose that gain if he becomes a must have.

    Thoughts?
