Sunday’s pair of fixtures provided us with a single goal and worries over two of the most popular Fantasy assets in the game after Michu and Romelu Lukaku both failed to finish their respective fixtures. Steven Caulker grabs the winner for Cardiff over former club Swansea, whilst Jan Vertonghen climbs to the top of the defender standings to justify his premium price tag:

Caulker the Bluebirds Hero
The summer signing grabbed the only goal of the game as Malky Mackay’s side prevailed in the South Wales derby. With two goals to his name since arriving from Tottenham, Caulker is now Cardiff’s joint-top scorer and has also accrued nine bonus points after yesterday’s match – more than double the tally of any of his team-mates. Initially priced at 5.0 in FPL, the centre-half has failed to pick up much Fantasy interest – he currently sits in just 2% of teams – but has now reached 48 points for the season; the same number as Everton’s Seamus Coleman, for example, and just one less that former Tottenham team-mate Kyle Walker. Elsewhere in the home defence, Ben Turner earned his highest return of the campaign; with a couple of bonus points accrued, the 4.0 priced defender is now up to 27 points but while he’s proving decent value, trails far behind his fellow Cardiff centre-half.

Michu Worry for Swans
Without a goal in the four league games prior to yesterday’s 1-0 defeat, it’s fair to say the Spaniard has toiled in recent weeks. Many Fantasy managers have chosen to keep faith as a result of Swansea’s fixtures but after limping out of the derby, the exodus is picking up pace – already, significant numbers have parted company since yesterday’s match. After the game, Laudrup cast doubts over his star midfielder’s availability for the weekend home game against Stoke:

“Michu is not 100% right now. He is struggling with some physical problems and on top of that he had to leave the pitch with another twisted ankle so probably he will be out for a couple of games.”

The Swans boss will definitely be without Michael Vorm for the Potters showdown after the Dutchman received his marching orders for denying a goalscoring opportunity – he will sit out a one-match ban and return for the Gameweek 12 trip to Fulham.

Vertonghen Proves his Worth
The Belgian was again fielded at left-back as Michael Dawson and Vlad Chiriches were handed the centre-half roles at Goodison. Everton had scored in each of the previous six but were denied by Andre Villas-Boas’ backline, who have now gone three consecutive games without conceding – indeed, yesterday’s clean sheet was their seventh of the season already. Vertonghen’s propensity to pick up bonus points also came to the fore – his maximum haul means he now has 12 this term, equalling his tally for the whole of the previous campaign. More significantly, yesterday’s nine-point haul took the 7.1 priced Belgian to the top of the defender rankings on 61 points, though with City and United in the next three, many may hold fire in investing for now.

Elsewhere at the back, Villas-Boas defended his decision to keep Hugo Lloris on the pitch after the keeper sustained a head injury in a collision with Romelu Lukaku. The Spurs boss admitted the Frenchman has no recollection of the incident but went on to confirmed Lloris is “well” in his post-match interview.

Toffees Resolute
Leighton Baines and co also picked up the points, with the goalless draw handing Everton their fifth clean sheet of the season. While Vertonghen’s ability to deliver bonus shows no sign of slowing, 7.7 priced Baines has suffered in recent weeks – he has failed to deliver any bonus in each of the last two Gameweeks, despite his side delivering a clean sheet on both occasions. Nonetheless, yesterday’s result saw him make a move up the leaderboard to justify his premium price tag – he’s now sitting third for defenders but, like Tottenham, has some tricky fixtures on the horizon, with Liverpool, United and Arsenal in the next five.

Barkley Warms the Bench
The Toffees midfielder dropped out of the starting line-up for the first time this terms as Leon Osman returned to the XI after producing a goal and assist against Villa last weekend. Clearly, Martinez is keen to protect the youngster and it was noticeable that prior to yesterday’s match his game time had dropped – 79 minutes in Gameweek 8, then just 59 minutes at Villa Park. Despite dropping from 5.7 to 5.6 in FPL last week, Barkley remains the third most popular midfielder in the game, with 35% ownership – yesterday’s sub role, allied with the fact he has now gone four fixtures without a goal or assist, looks set to signal plenty sales.

Lukaku Concern for Martinez
The big Belgian’s 25% FPL owners will be somewhat concerned after he was forced off towards the end following the collision with Lloris. Martinez admitted Lukaku was withdrawn after picking up a thigh problem in the clash – given that he had notched five times in five prior to yesterday’s match and now has a trip to basement-dwellers Palace up next, he looks a real captaincy contender for next weekend. An injury update will be anxiously awaited, with would-be suitors perhaps putting their plans on hold until Martinez gives us further prognosis.

        Maybe not. Suarez is owned by only 23% of teams, Aguero by 20.9%. If they keep doing well they'll be transferred in and will rise in value. Ramsey is in 55.2% of teams and still rising in price because he keeps scoring well.

        If you think Suarez and Aguero will score more points than your current strikers, make the trade. If you're right you'll gain points and value. How sure are you?

    Currently have £1.5m in the bank and planning to transfer Evra out. I autopicked a defender and Vertonghen's name popped out. Is this a sign of things?

    😆 Jokes aside. Yes, I have been thinking of Vertonghen but with two Manchester fixtures coming up, is it still wise to invest in him at this stage of the gameweek? Or is there any better valued at £7.9m?

      Evra -> Terry is what I think I'll do.

          If Cech ain't between your sticks, Terry looks the best prospect in my opinion.

          Those fixtures make Vert a little expensive in the short term, give him a few weeks and then bring him in when the opposition pose less threat to his CS (and BPS) potential.

              In the next four GWs Utd have Arsenal (H), Cardiff (A), Spurs (A), Everton (H).

              Chelsea face WBA (H), West Ham (A), Southampton (H), Sunderland (A).

              Utd's defensive form has been frustrating to say the least, and Chlesea look a pretty solid side.

              It look like a good move to me.

        • 14 Years

        Between the two, I would go for Terry over Ivanovic simply due to his likely propensity to pick up bonus points and have been a massive threat on corners and other set pieces. Whereas for Ivanovic, his only advantage is his position down the flank and the possibility of contributing to attacking returns which has not happened of late.

    Need some FFS surgery in the coming weeks, FT for this week is done. Michu > Silva. Ranked 1.5mil

    Mig xx
    Coleman Ivanovic Clyne Burner Chester
    Ozil Hazard Silva Ramsey JWP
    Suarez Lukaku Benteke

    0.2 in bank.

    Really struggling this season and all down to a failed GW4 wildcard, with RVP Walcott and Benteke crocked immediately the week after.

    Wanted to save the FT this week but Michu injury forced my hand. Got Silva in, but could use some opinions from you guys on here? Seems like 99% of you are doing much better than me at the moment. Thinking of Reid in at some point, find to cash to get Vert in, or a straight Ivanovic > Williams downgrade.

    Thanks in advance!

        Thanks Dogba. Will be trying hard to not take a hit this week, and hopefully get an above average return for once this GW.

        Bad (c) calls in recent weeks have cost me dearly. I often get lulled into paying for the more expensive player, and i fear that may be the case dropping Michu for Silva. We shall see.

        If Lukaku is out, will probably play JWP or Burner and not take a hit. Can't really afford anyone else in that bracket that's performing. Other than Remy or Lambs/JRod.

        Probably been the bad (c) calls over the past few weeks. I'm been patching up the team ever since that infamous GW which ruled Benteke Walcott and RVP out. Past 2 weeks have got to the team I'm reasonably happy with - but have still dropped 400k with this team (minus Silva) over the past 2 GWs.

        Thanks for the vote of confidence. Will try to keep my chin up and not knee jerk a -16 point hit!

        Had Suarez (c) whole week of GW9 and changed to Giroud last minute. Had Ozil (c) whole week of GW10 and changed to Suarez last minute. Shall stick it to Sua this week and not think twice!

    Re-post as still undecided. Which Heavy Hitting Mid should I get, Gerrard, Coutinho, Silva, Hazard Oscar?

    There looks to be three teams to back on fixtures right now (assuming most on here have Arsenal mids already); Chelsea Liverpool and Man City.

    Gerrard - An under the radar option, on most set pieces and penalties which behind SAS has bought returns in four of the last five and sees very favourable fixtures in four of the next five.

    Coutinho - 0.4 cheaper than Gerrard, the most attacking midfielder and capable of class. Hasn’t shown it yet this season and looked rusty in one-on-ones against Ramsey this weekend. Higher risk but maybe higher reward.

    Silva – It’s hard to look beyond him in City’s mid at the moment, The In-form mid of FPL, but tougher fixtures than Chelsea and more prone to tiredness/rotation than those at Liverpool.

    Hazard and Oscar but who do you pick!? Who’s mourinho’s new favourite after the weekend

      My vote's with Silva. For what it's worth, got him in for Michu this week.

      He;s in good form and hard to look past. Chelsea midfield abit uncertain at the moment (but I do have Hazard).

      The thing with Silva is (from experience in past seasons) that you just have to stick with him and he will trickle decent points in but don't expect explosive returns frequently. But for the next 2, would pick Silva for form. And if Hazard/Oscar shows some consistency, be quick to jump on them for CHE's good fixtures.

    I've dithered and faffed, but now I've confirmed my transfer and gone with Cabaye for my Michu replacement.

    Necastle are improving, fixtures look pretty good, and at only 6.2 means I can upgrade the rest of my team easily next week.

      Which means about 4 or 5 weeks until we can start taking risky transfers in the knowledge we can clean up our teams 🙂

                Still thinking about it.

                Probably one of the likely lads: Hazard, Oscar or Silva.

                Not many other options 🙁

    Oscar with 1goal and 2 assists in Ucl. Hazard 1 goal and missed 1 game. I think that isn't much difference between them.

      depends if you wanna break up your strike force, you have 3 good forwards but you dont have suarez or aguero. Maybe just do michu to ravel and save a transfer and a load of cash for next week

    Don't normally do this but i've made 5 transfers (extreme I know) because I was annoyed with my team so far. How does it look?

    Mignolet

    Fonte Williams Dawson

    Silva Hazard Ramsey Barkley

    Suarez Aguro Lukaku

    Subs: Boruc, Rat, Whittingham, B.Turner

    Transfters;

    Michu -> Silva
    Coleman -> Williams
    Giroud -> Aguero
    Yaya -> Hazard
    Zaba -> Rat

    A bit extreme? Cheers for any feedback.

      Zaba -> Rat & Yaya -> Hazard to fund Aguero.

      Coleman -> Williams to fund Silva.

      On his twisted ankle, he might but he seems to be carrying another injury as well which may explain his indifferent form recently

      I was reading the swansea forums, they are quitely pleased he has picked up this injury. People were calling for him to be dropped.

      There is alot of criticism of michu, especially with his performance v cardiff. He intentionally went offside or was lazy a couple of times and fans are very frustrated with him.

      Apparently he is also not happy with his role in the team and not happy he has to play as striker which he showed v cardiff.

      +1, the man ran off the field. Rested for midweek and (hopefully) ready for some Stoke action. If not, Fulham is just around the corner.

      here you are evs

      are you reggreting your saturday transfers after Michu/Lukaka preformance from yesterday?

      would you keep Rooney if you knew what is going to happen?

        A little Forca, as I may have to take a hit (only my 2nd this season)

        I had to gamble on Aguero Saturday as my value is so poor I couldn't wait for a 0.3m hike.

        I think Lukaka will be ok.

        Wait and see on MIchu.

        Thing is, with the exception of Ramsey no other mf option under 8m stands out.

    Anyone here a fan of Primal Scream's Screamadelica from the early 90's? looking for a similar album(Dance/Indie Rock).. will be a bit too much to ask for an album which will top Screamadelica but anythin that comes close?

    Absolutely no idea on what to do this GW with 2FT.

    Migs
    Chico - Coleman - Shaw
    Ozil - Michu - Silva - Oscar
    Suarez - Benteke - Lukaku

    Injury concerns to Michu and Lukaku, and seems everyone already has Aguero/Rooney/Ramsey.
