An old friend grabbed the headlines this weekend as three red cards were handed out, while the Tightrope also welcomed a trio of new recruits to the rarefied atmosphere of their fourth yellow card.

No stranger to these pages (he even gets a mention in the first ever article in this series), Lee Cattermole racked up his eighth career red card on Saturday. The midfielder earned his fifth dismissal in just 88 games as a Sunderland player for a late and clumsy lunge on Hull City’s Ahmed Elmohamady – the Black Cats will now be without the combative ball-winner for the next three games as he sits out the midweek Capital One Cup tie against Southampton and upcoming league games against Manchester City and Stoke. Gus Poyet may turn to Craig Gardner as a replacement, though with four reds and 25 yellows in his last 83 league games he’s no stranger to a card or two either.

Joining Cattermole on the sidelines for the same three games will be his left-back colleague Andrea Dossena. Less than five minutes after the midfielder was sent packing, Dossena lost the ball and saw fit to recklessly jump into a tackle with David Meyler that left the former Sunderland man prostrate. The crimson flash duly followed, leaving Sunderland with a mountain to climb and some holes to fill until both men return for the Gameweek13 clash with Aston Villa.

Also of note in Sunderland’s nine-man loss to Hull – and highlighted post-match by a seething Gus Poyet – was a mis-timed, two footed, and off-the-ground challenge by the recently returned Robbie Brady late in the game. The referee, Andre Marriner, decided it merited only a yellow card, meaning it’s very unlikely Brady will see further action from the FA upon review of the incident.

Less likely to be reprieved is Fulham’s ever-present Sascha Riether, as his clear stamp on Adnan Januzaj during their loss to Manchester United went unpunished at the time. The right-back will now be subject to the full wrath of the suits at Soho Square – a three- match ban looks entirely likely for the German as we await more news.

Completion of the ban action this weekend came in the South Wales derby, with Swansea goalkeeper Michel Vorm given his marching orders for felling Frazier Campbell as he bore down on goal late in the game. For denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity, Vorm will sit out just a single game for the Jacks who will need to call on the services of Gerhard Tremmel for the visit of Stoke. Vorm will presumably now play away in Europe on Thursday and then return to league action in Gameweek 12 at Fulham.

On to the tightrope now, and a busy weekend saw midfielders Antonio Valencia, Jon Walters and Paulinho all climb aboard the high wire to test their balancing skills. Eight players are all vying to follow Lucas Leiva in picking up a single match ban – Valencia now has cards in his last two league appearances, while Paulinho goes one better with three cards in three league games. He now takes pole position as he faces up to Newcastle next weekend.

I have Ramz and Ozil both, which is too much coverage for Arsenal looking at the upcoming fixtures. I would only keep Ramz.. Dont you want to keep Ozil for at least one more game against united.

I need to ship Michu to get Aguero.

    Who to get for Michu?
    A) Ramires
    B) Snodgrass
    C) Januzaj

I'm leaning towards Ramires for fixtures and he is due a goal.

cant you avoid the hit by:

    Michu + Giroud --> Morrison + Kun?

if you ship Sturridge out, you lose money but Suarez is definitely the armband choice against Fulham.

    dilemma..

    QUARTERLY PRIZES
Additionally, the Fantasy Premier League season will be divided into four quarters: Q1 (GW 1-9), Q2 (GW 10-19), Q3 (GW 20-29) Q4 (GW 30-38). The person that finishes top of each quarterly leaderboard will receive a VIP trip to watch a Barclays Premier League team of their choice with pre-match meal, two nights’ accommodation and transfers included.

So this lucky Mark Daly fella already won this? http://fantasy.premierleague.com/entry/2209051/history/

More importantly, confused by "transfers included"... so, free wildcard?

Hits for Transfers vs Price increease/Decrease, opinion..thnx is a combination of price

increase/decrease of btn.5 -.8 in a gw < less important than taking a hit of -8 to drop 2 players to avoid having to pay extra .6 next gw? already did 2 transfers

    wanted to do
    Michu > Haz
    Ivan > Williams
but it seems Michu will drop .3 this gw, Ivan btn .1-.2 (now at 76% down),
Haz might go up .2 now (86%) Williams might go up .1 (now 23%(

I've sold Michu for a hit because of the threat of the price drop. First hit for a while but it felt important to do with him because he costs quite alot.

IMO hits are ok if you make the right decision on who you bring in, sometimes it really is worth the risk.

Suppose it depends on your overall score and your goals for the season.

exactly.last gw i wanted but did NOT take the -8 hit to get aguero and captain him ag nor..easy call. well 33 pts went by to overshadow those 8 pts. and i got stiuck w c suarez 4 pts. so these 8p hits that r looked as absurd sometimes its more risky NOT to take the 8 pt hit.

what d u think? go for the 8 pter?

    2) how nailed on is nastasic?
    3) Have hazard already, good shout to bring in oscar also? might get rested after intl break?

    Migs Boruc
    Clyne Coleman Dawson (Ros, Turner)
    Ozil Ramsey Morrison Brady (Michu)
    Aguero Rooney Suarez

Have 8.8 to spend on a mid, there is no1 who appeals to me at all this week.. Would I be mad to just hold on to Michu and have 2FT next week?

+1 this or save transfer, the only worry is that if Michu misses out this week his price will probably plummet

Kinda looking at Coutinho but think I can do without.. Was thinkin Cabaye or Sess next week. Or if it looks as if he'll replace Mata Shurrle may be worth a chance.. I mean Michu has been doing nothing for me lately and I'd doing ok without him. Not having Hazard this week scares me little I must admit!

depends on what he produces, if he keeps the average he has done so far than about 7, if he does what he has done in the last 3 than maybe ceiling is at 5.5 like Barkley

I got him at 4.6 as well.
Strangely, I have not actually started him yet. I'm just happy that my budget midfielder is not losing value like the first two who auditioned for the role (Cabral & JWP).
If he continues to produce, his price will continue to rise, especially if many higher-priced mids continue to falter. I think the cieling will be 5.8.

Looking for Barkely replacement 6.5 or less

Ward Prowse has caught the eye. Only 4.2 and has started the last two games, assisting in the last one.
Is there a reason he has only started the last two? Is he replacing an injured player or is he now first choice? I confess i know little about him. However he looks very cheap for a fifth mid

I wouldn't rely on JWP - however he does at least get on every week so is a very handy sub at that price. Problem is he will get 1 pt more often than not, so it's a risk to field him in your first XI.

This price range in midfield is a minefield for rotation issues.

Maybe best to save the transfer, have two coming back from the int'l break, & doing a double swap to upgrade Barkely.

I have already been burned with JWP... in all likelihood he will not keep his place long-term. That assist does make him tempting, though.
Depends if you're looking for a punt or not. Arnautovic still seems an interesting option, but it is definitely a punt.

Hows this looking for the weekend people?

    Migs

    Clyne – Burner – Chico

    Silva – Hazard – Oscar – Ramsey

    Benteke – Suarez © - Rooney

Lack of Aguero concerns me although I’m hoping Benteke/Silva (who are both differentials in my ML) can bridge the gap. Hazard/Oscar are also keeping Wally’s spot warm.

Please help me. I really need to jump on the Aguero/Suarez/Rooney bandwagon somehow, or do I just trust that midfielders will start picking up more points soon? 0.0 in the bank. 2 dead defenders. I feel like I'm in crisis and don't know what my next few moves are. I've already posted but I'm literally stuck at the mo.

    Boruc/Harper
    Chico Coleman Shaw Whittaker Briggs
    Amalfitano Ozil Oscar Silva Coutinho
