With our Fantasy plans placed on hold by yet another international break, the community have had plenty time to take stock and assess the lay of the land. This week, some of the most pivotal discussions have revolved around key transfers and captain choices for Gameweek 12 and beyond.

Our Sunday evening regular catches up with the latest from our community leagues and celebrates a post which, thanks to a geographical oversight, gave us one of the all-time Fantasy Football Scout classic comment threads.

The Hottest Topics

The 3rd Turd has been at his abacus again to analyse the price risers and fallers tables. His excellent set of posts shows that Southampton are the most inflationary team, though his detective work has found there’s a surprise side losing value at the other end of the scale.

The temptation to invest heavily in the likes of Luis Suarez and Eden Hazard after their excellent Gameweek 11 scores is huge but FBA, however, urges caution. He looks at the performance of each Gameweek’s top scoring player in their following fixture to ascertain just how many have been able to deliver consistently – his investigation proved to be sobering reading.

Accounting on Chris has also been looking ahead to Gameweek 12 and specifically the best captain options. Those to come under his gaze include Hazard, Stephane Sessegnon, Sergio Aguero and Suarez.

Casting an eye beyond next week, we asked how the community was planning to tackle the eight games within a month over the festive period. Jesus Navas – Our Lord believes that even with the games coming thick and fast, Aguero, Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie will be spared the threat of rotation. Forca, meanwhile, lamented how last year’s hectic Christmas schedule ‘killed his season.’

The community were also offered a chance to take part in the next few Scoutcasts, with Granville and Mark looking for members to submit their questions for discussion. Among those to answer Granville’s call were King Nil Miss who wants to know why midfielders are misfiring so much this season. Chancing Punt wants the Scoutcast pair to ponder whether centre backs will outscore full backs this season.

Investing in the most attacking sides is a no-brainer, according to The Sarjeant, who this week has been looking at the most attacking sides and their key players. Interestingly he has also broken down the spread of goals by position and has found that, while forwards are dominating scoring at United and Liverpool, the goals are being shared among midfielders down at City.

Finally, The Missing Link entered the Fantasy Football Scout community posting hall of infamy this week with what we have affectionately entitled the most spectacular post fail ever. His comparison of Eric Lamela’s Premier League performances alongside some “fellow Ligue 1 imports” hinged on the Tottenham midfielder’s former club Roma being in France – unfortunately for the Missing Link, Rome remains in Italy. If the community round up was minded to hand out prizes, an atlas would surely be winging its way to The Missing Link, who took the ridicule that ensued in good humour to create our most up-voted post yet.

Community Leagues

The FFS UEFA Beach Soccer World Cup group stages have come to an end with Gameweek 12 heralding the start of the knock out stages. Those teams, comprising of FFS community managers battling it out in Gameweek 12’s quarter-finals, are USA, Solomon Islands, Iran, Ivory Coast, El Salvador, Spain, Paraguay and Brazil.

In Thomass and Peppie&Felix competition we approach finals day. Thomass, Beric, Daniel and TW advance to the next round with Thomass beating his tournament co-host Peppie&Felix along the way.

Evs, Chilin Dude, RobinHuth, Crouch Potato, Chazza and Koneheads top In Tommy We Trust’s All Things leagues. Meanwhile the third round draw of his cup competition has thrown up an interesting match, with ITWT’s wife up against our resident physio Facer.

Walker & Paulinho > Vlaar & Walcott for a hit on the cards for next week? Would give me:

    Mignolet
    Coleman - Terry - Vlaar
    Barkley - Haz - Sess - Walcott
    Benteke - Rooney - Suarez

    Boruc - Clyne - Chester - Whittingham
    Bank = 0.1

That's an option... But I fear I'd have to make an unnecessary transfer in the coming weeks once Villa's defensive injuries subside. Vlaar is nailed, Baker isn't.

Hey guys, I'm considering saving a transfer this week, advisable you think or do you see any transfer options?

    Mignolet
    Nastasic, Chico, Clyne
    Sessegnon, Ozil, Hazard, Brady
    Rooney, Sturridge, Aguero

    4.0, RMorrison, BTurner, Wilson

It's looking grim for this week but hopefully I'll be able to ride it out.

I dont think Valencia belongs in that list one of the best players for United IMO, and neither of these players plays on the wing. They kept Januzaj who plays there as they needed a player in that position.

United have sold players like Ronaldo and Beckham for not having the correct state of mind, I dont get why people are making such a big deal about letting these youngsters go. Its not like they did not know they could have a future. Fergies words were that Morrison is the best young player he has seen at united since Scholes

Ronaldo had decided he was leaving...

Fergie knew he couldnt stop him.

And if Morrison was as good as Scholes, surely he deserved to get into the first team, instead of giving him away.

I absolutely hate ManU, but I'll admit that a person has to be pretty dense to consider Rooney as an average player in that awful lineup.

The fact you even suggested Kagawa play instead just validates everything.

Systems win football matches, not individuals. Rooney is ok. But Kagawa fits into the way we are trying to play in a more efficient manner. Kagawa has shown that when given his rare opportunities.

Do you ever watch him play? I swear mist people just gobble up what the media feeds them. If you watched him play properly with no bias you'd see his passing is shocking 7/10 and he's far too selfish, his awareness of his teammates in the final third is shocking

You clearly haven't, if SAF had spent the the dosh on a proper midfielder instead of trying to convert a top striker into a midfielder who has to spend all game running from one end of the pitch to the other then things would have been differant for him. Blame Fergie not the player. If Chelsea had Rooney right now they would win the title. And Arsenal for that matter. As for selfish, check his passing and assists records, I don't have to I see enough of him play to know.

I don't understand it, I really don't. Just because he runs up and down the pitch (most of it being a headless chicken) doesn't suddenly make him world class. If he was so great, somebody would have put in a substantial bid for him. If he was so great, Rvp wouldn't have overshadowed him and made him throw his toys out of the pram

I'm not trolling. Rooney gets undue praise. It is so irrational. I am not doubting that he was once an amazing player, I just think people are forgetting that those days where he used to chip the keeper from 35-40 yards like v Boro and smash them in on the volley v Newcastle are long gone.

Jesus read the post properly, my point is he shouldn't have to as a striker be stuck in midfield, not his specialist position and spend half the game tracking back. He is a striker, his job is to score goals.

I just think he's slow and lethargic on the ball most of the time, he's burned out. All he does is drop deep, and distribute the ball out wide, wait for cross. He was once individually dangerous, powerful with an instinct to run with the ball. Only in the last 5 years when he is criticised by Ferguson or whoever in the press or his position in the team is challenged does he then seem to react positively and shows glimpses in games, literally tiny moments, where he expresses a desire. I just have a dislike for forwards who don't attack, and Rooney has been around a long time, I'm around the same age, i was at school when he broke through, so his development has been disappointing...

I've probably seen 90% of their games for the last four seasons. What you're saying is simply untrue. He's a sublime world-class talent who has had, yes, fitness issues, emotional outbursts, contract disputes, half-hearted desires to leave the club-- and still produces for them.

If anything, he is unselfish (he can pass and will look for strike partners when he has them) but like most offensive-minded players, is best utilized when he is a focal part of the offense. I question what you have been watching all this time.

What about all the years that he and Ronaldo fed off one another? Can't you see the partnership with RvP about to gel here?

I really don't know else to say except you seem to have a lopsided anti-Rooney agenda and you haven't given him credit for anything.

I find that it's the united fans who are more realistic about his quality, because we watch him every game, whereas everyone else will just watch highlights and see the goals. But then that doesn't make sense of how people still rate him given that they watch him for england. I find it most disappointing that he's just handed a start for both, he's not earned it for years.

I completely disagree with them. Absolute arsegravy. While he is an odd player, he will often f**k up but then recover and do something wonderful. His incredible overhead kick actually started from him f**king up a pass. So technically he makes mistakes but he also produces a lot of moments of sheer brilliance.

I remember that. He had his back to goal and the ball was passed to him around the edge of the box, and he sort of chipped the ball back badly and it went to no one. It summed up his lazy mind. He should be pre-thinking how to receive the ball and turn with it. But the overhead kick shows he still has a talent buried deep within him that comes out sometimes.

That's just the impression I get. I wouldn't say all united fans think this, many like him obviously, what I mean is it's mostly united fans who see through the media hype, maybe they're aggrieved that he wanted to leave. Arsenal fans seem to think he's amazing and he's the signing they needed, or others think if Chelsea had him they'd win the title. United fans will focus on how the team and him plays, fans who only care about results will ignore that and see that he's scored a few free kicks lately. Lots and lots of premier league players have scored free kicks lately...it's not special. Neither is a header. They're good, show quality, but no goals in open play sums up his heavy leggedness, he's not a nimble, agile, pacey forward anymore.

I'm mostly aggrieved that he's not a no 10 yet plays there anyway, whilst Kagawa actually is and has to play wide. There's a reason ferguson messed rooney around, if he was that good he'd play him in his best position, many years ago he stopped being an attacking force and became a work hard Milner type utility player, who'd make the occasional tackle in his own half and everyone would cheer. Rvp is someone who is so efficient in the way he moves, every time he has the ball he's engineering a way to get past or create a chance to score, Rooney is not like this, he's a dog on the ball and predictable, he''ll take the ball on his right and try to curl it. Every time, either it's blocked because it's so obvious, or it's saved, or it's hit miles wide.

I'm a united fan and I'm kinda speechless over this? It's Rooney ?? If you say your a united fan you should and would love him? He has done so much to help the club win the league over the years and calling him lazy is nonsense the man is a fecking work horse on all areas of the pitch? No matter what mistakes he has made he always does his best to fix them on and off the pitch. After all the shite in the summer about transfer requests and doubt hanging over him he has been head and shoulders above the rest of the team and our best player by far this season. I just don't get this how a united fan can call Rooney average is beyond me

I'm loving the arguments but the truth lies somewhere in between.

I think a lot of this comes down to your own definition of a world class player. I would put Rooney in the top 50 players in the world, considering how many professional players there are globally I think that's can safely be classed as 'world class'.

I'm a United fan and I hate Rooney but for his personal decisions rather than playing ability. His form for the past 5 years has been patchy and its easy to understand why some think he's crap (after a run of poor form) and some think he's amazing (when in good form). From my own experience of watching a lot of United is that the team plays better when he's on the pitch and win more games when he's on the pitch. Sometimes his touch goes wayward and his pace has gone but his understanding of the game and his intuition is still better than almost anyone in the league.

As for Kagawa, he is brilliant but doesn't have the strength or endurance to play the number 10 role in this league, not yet anyway. Considering Rooney's current form Moyes would be a fool to drop him for Kags which is why he's been getting a lot of game time on the left. Moyes recognises how good he is and wants him on the pitch, its up to him to adapt his game and make the most of his current role.

Your honestly blinded by some kind of hate or annoyance by him. He really is a great player, and sure his form dips at times, but many players go through the same thing. There is no doubt that united are more of a threat when he is in the team

Quoted before and I'll have to quote again.

In 418 matches for United he has scored 204 goals and had 102 assists.

Yeah, I don't remotely understand the obsession.

Thing is though, he plays for united. And United can overwhelm teams sometimes, especially under ferguson and with scholes dictating. Hernandez and Berbatov also scored shitloads in their best seasons, and they're both ace obviously but it's worth mentioning.

He actually has roughly the same goal to game ratio as Defoe, and i like Defoe, as a striker i think he's genuinely good. Dunno, stats are meaningless, it's like declaring messi as the best ever because of his 70 goals in a year season, rather than something simple and magical like when he chipped the ball into the air as the arsenal keeper slid under it, and then he volleyed it in.

I care about his overall game, I care about dangerous and inventive he is on the ball every time he picks it up. I used to look forward to watching him play, I only look forward to watching those kind of players, he's not one of them.

Well what about his numerous chip assists from the halfway line last year? His corner against Arsenal. He produces a great number of sound and precise passes however he doesn't dribble or any of that stuff like Messi or Ronaldo. Rooney's job is to get goals for the team either via assists or goals. Defensively he is a tough nut and puts in the work too. As for United overwhelming teams, same can be said for any big team. Barcelona, Madrid, City, Bayern, Chelsea etc. So it would taste a lie to say that United's dominance makes Rooney sparkle more than his talent unless you were to say this about all the other players at these teams.

No he's good at crossing, i get that, he's a good long passer of the ball if given time to do it.

It's not really just about dribbling, but being dangerous. Suarez has it, an innate desire to create chances for himself, it's all he thinks about when he receives the ball. I think that's really important in an attacking player, being a nuisance, Januzaj showed more desire when losing to west brom than any other united player.

Rooney's instinct when he gets the ball is to just distribute it wide or forward. When he's near the box, he really rarely shoots, or fashions a chance for himself, he often does these little inaccurate lazy flicks to team mates that go nowhere, it's like he's passing the responsibility onto someone else, and he's in that mode for a long time, for england too. He has moments of quality, like his feint and dragging the ball past the oncoming defender in the arsenal game but then scuffed the shot wide. It's more of an instinct thing when the chance prevents itself, rather that being something that's characterized in his play.

I really think rooney would not score half as much if he played for Norwich, it's a stupid and obvious thing to say maybe, but i do think he is an average forward now and has been for 5 years who has a record for club and country that is what it is because he's simply played a lot for both of them. There are other players who have good records, James Beattie did, Darren Bent, Crouch when playing for England. They're not world class. If you take Rooney now, make him play for Norwich, erase his history, you think he'd even get an England call up? He's coasting on his history, his 2004 performances, this 'golden boy' role.

If Rooney was actually great, he'd be scoring braces every few months, hat tricks against poor sides, he'd maul the worse teams England face in internationals. The kind of things really dangerous players like Ronaldo and Suarez do all the time.

Since I got RVP in my team, GW4, he has easily outscored Rooney in FPL points, despite starting 2 games less!!

I got RVP in GW4 for a reason.

And since then, he has outscored Rooney.

I agree with you. Maybe he would do much better somewhere else. It's the ManU fans that try to convince you that you're blind -or clueless- to his brilliance who annoy me. He's done nothing of value in a ManU shirt besides sign his name.

United fans have to accept that he won't oust Rooney for that position in the hole unless Rooney gets a long term injury or something.

Kagawa not suited in the position he's playing in the PL. Don't forget when he played his normal position last season he scored a hatty.

However I would have loved a formation like Liverpool's diamond with Shinji playing behind both VP and Rooney (Like Coutinho playing behind Suarez and Studge). Seeing as wingers aren't our strong point I don't see why it couldn't have been tested for a couple of games.
