After analysing the Defence in yesterday’s first instalment, we turn our attention to the men in the centre of the park. Once again, the top three sides play a major part in our refresh, with some strong options available on offer from Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea across the frantic festive period:

Chelsea duo Eden Hazard and Oscar find themselves in this week’s top three after both registered double figures in last week’s win at West Ham. Clearly, the duo have cemented their roles as Jose Mourinho’s preferred attacking midfielders and, given that they are now second and fourth in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) midfield standings, there’s even an argument for acquiring both. Mourinho’s hint at rotation over the upcoming month may deter some would-be suitors, but with Sunderland, Stoke and Palace in the next four, the stage looks set for the Blues to rack up the points over the festive schedule.

A trio of Arsenal options find their way into our midfield refresh. A trip to Cardiff, followed by back-to-back home games against Hull and Everton bode well for the likes of Aaron Ramsey and Mesut Ozil as they look to recover from temporary blips which has seen both draw blanks in each of the last two. Once again, though, rotation may play a part in Arsene Wenger’s plans as he looks to ensure Champions League qualification – nonetheless, Theo Walcott’s return from injury has seen him emerge from the bench in the last two in all competitions and a start looks imminent. With an ownership under 4% in FPL, compared to Ramsey’s 59% and Ozil’s 30%, the Gunners wide-man looks a real differential, offering plenty of explosive potential.

A goal against Everton in last Saturday’s Merseyside derby finally saw Philippe Coutinho net for the first time this term. Back in the Reds XI after injury, he also offers a differential option, with a mere 5% ownership. Liverpool roll up to Hull this weekend before three very enticing home games in four (NOR, WHM, CAR) and the Brazilian looks a viable double-up option for those looking beyond Luis Suarez for their Reds coverage.

A trip to Newcastle and home clash with City may prove a little testing for Stephane Sessegnon, but the Baggies midfielder will be licking his lips in light of a trio of promising fixtures from Gameweek 15-17. West Brom entertain Norwich and Hull, with a trip to Cardiff sandwiched in between, suggesting the Benin international could be set to continue the form which has harvested a goal and assist in the last three for Steve Clarke’s side. Coming in at 5.2 to his team-mate’s 6.6, Morgan Amalfitano is a more budget-friendly option for Fantasy managers unwilling to splash the cash on the midlands outfit.

City pair Yaya Toure and Samir Nasri offers options in different price brackets for the upcoming schedule. Bearing in mind that Manuel Pellegrini’s side have hit United and Spurs for four and six respectively at the Etihad, the visit of Arsenal and Liverpool over the next six won’t hold any fears as City look to extend a 100% record in front of their own supporters. With a home clash against Swansea and trips to Fulham and West Brom also on their agenda, Nasri (at 8.1, with a goal or assist in six of his 12 appearances) and Toure (at 9.6, with 50 points in six home appearances) both look appealing options in light of David Silva’s calf injury absence.

The consistency of Yohan Cabaye ensures the Newcastle midfielder earns a place on our list – despite being just one caution shy of a single-match ban. Cabaye has now scored or assisted in five of the last eight league matches and, at 6.4, looks real value for money ahead of a run which pits him against West Brom, Swansea, Palace and Stoke in the next six Gameweeks.

Injuries to Anthony Pilkington and Robert Snodgrass bring Norwich flier Nathan Redmond into this week’s refresh. With Chris Hughton set to be without his first-choice wide men for a number of weeks, Redmond, at just 4.6, has Palace, Swansea and Fulham at home in the next six, in addition to a trip to Sunderland.

Similarly to Cabaye, Ravel Morrison is also walking the Suspension Tightrope. The 4.9-priced West Ham youngster sits on four yellows, but providing he keeps his temperament in check, will be confident of adding to his current haul of three goals and an assist ahead of a schedule which sees him square up to all of the bottom three in the next four Gameweeks (FUL, cpl, SUN).

Southampton’s Adam Lallana may have the form, but the fixtures are very much against him. The Saints skipper has three goals and a trio of assists in the last eight, picking up points against both Liverpool and United, but with Chelsea, City, Spurs and in-form Newcastle in the next five, his 18% FPL owners may find festive returns hard to come by.

A home game against Stoke this weekend bodes well for Kevin Mirallas, but back-to-back trips to United and Arsenal somewhat diminish his short-term appeal. The schedule turns far kinder from Gameweek 16 onwards, though, and Mirallas – with two sets of double figures in his last three at Goodison, may tempt those who have chosen to ignore Romelu Lukaku up top.

Finally, Fulham’s Pajtim Kasami is one of the few regular budget options available with an eye for goal. The Cottagers midfielder comes in at just 4.5 and, following this week’s trip to West Ham, has three home games in four to add to his two-goal tally so far.

I know he's nailed but Brady's fixtures until end of wc window

    Home

    LIV, STO, MNU, FUL, CHE

    Away

ars, swa, wba. liv, nor, cpl

    Worth keeping? not so sure

Maybe selling him then downgrading Sess to Whits/JWP/Redmond is better?

He was the man I had planned to move on to make way for Theo with my 2 FTs next time out

It depends on what you class as wasting a trade

if you're swapping him for another cheapie, maybe it is, but is it a waste to swap him for a big hitter?

I own Jwp and Brady. I just want to get through the Xmas period. I prefer Whitt for the next couple. I think they will make life difficult for Ars.

The thing is I want Rooney in for Lukaku,so Brady is the least of my worries.

Reckon he's good bench fodder as he may get the occasional goal/assist from set-piece. Don't think I'll play him much but he may come in handy off the bench if I need him.

I am thinking along similar lines of swapping Brady out for Gerrard next week - really want extra Pool attacking coverage, and not comfortable binning Lallana (with AVL next week) or Sess (with NOR/HUL around the corner).

Have 5M in the bank; was saving up for Rooney, but I'm not comfortable getting him in until his suspension has been and gone.

I'd definitely be saving the transfer if i had your team. The 2FT for the midweek games could be very useful too

Yes save. You have no injuries and there are no stand out options for this week that you don't have. The FT will come in handy in the future.

Coutinho hasnt played 12 gws. Ive watched every pool game and he does look impressive. Points are goimg to come from him.. just like last year when he scored 70 points in the same amount of time it took ramsey to score 70 points this year! He will just improve. Start of the year he had no suarez and there were only 1-0 victories in every game he played.

Well i dont write the watchlist but the scouts consider lots of aspects, the fact that Coutinho is cheaper and plays further foward is probably the reason why. They dont tend to put 2 options from 1 team from 1 position in the list unless there is a very good case for it. You wouldnt want both Cout and Gerrard i doubt.

That's because Chelsea have so few attacking options in forward positions and arguably with their run owning both Haz and Oscar is an option.

With Liverpool there is also Suarez and Sturridge as attacking options so there's less liklihood of someone doubling up on Coutinho, Gerrard when the key asset there is undoubtedly Suarez.

Well thats becuase its a reasonable choice to go with both considering their fixtures and recent returns. Chelsea dont seem to have a reliable foward to pick where as with Liverpool if you were going to double up it would prob be Suarez and one of Studge/Cout/Gerrard. I assure you its not a hate campaign against Gerrard, if he produces again this week for example, the watchlist is updated quite regularly and he may included.

As D1sable says its because Coutinho plays further forward and is showing some really good form since coming back. His underlying stats which we use as one of a number of pieces of research are very good. Gerrard is a great option as well but for us as it stands Coutinho has the slight edge.

if this week gerrard outscores countiho will he be swampped on watch list?

as it seems watch list is just very personal to the scouts rather than who are the best picks

and not sure i buy the no attack option theory as you have nasri & yaya

for me gerrard is better pick than both if you compare next 3 fixtures and gerrard points history - set pieces & pens

exactly. the obvious is haz & oscar. Gerrard gets lost in ther because so many have 3 pool in migs, suarez and stu. Gerrard w/ pens, asisits and long shot could be a good one.
Only doubt is coutinho vs Gerrard, but still think gerrard due to pens outbeats

i assume u have gerrard suarz and migs and no pool dfence? thats the other issue, if go gerrard then no pool dfence and potential cs w/ good Fixtures

thx mark. i think id have gerrard ahead of coutinho due to pens. mirallas lower due to tough fixtures.nasri slith edge over cabaye due to silva out but then again nacas reemeerged.
sess is a big ? but has good fixtures as of gw5, will he deliver. de guzamn good upside w/ pens and michu out.

Just went through all of Liverpool's training pictures today.

Coutinho isn't in one, he didn't train. I'm an owner but doesn't look great.

Nah he is a favorite of Rodgers. He is key to Liverpool, when he got injured against Swansea Liverpool were in complete control, they fell apart when he went off, he makes them tick. Gerrard is just as likely to get a breather in the busy schedule.

To me I think u have a great team. Like majority aguero is a good capt choice, or either Suarez... I'm on the same boat, can't decide which one to settle my capt choice

          I'm waiting for news too. This was all I could find from Sam, yesterday;
"We have no further injuries, gladly, from last week. Everybody else is okay and we're just getting ready for these next two big games but certainly this first one against Fulham."

          . . . doesn't help!

Hi guys is it worth a transfer to bring in a new keeper for this gw. I have the following lineup

Borus (Che) - vorm bench against mci
Jagielka (STK), ivanovic (sou), Johnson (hul) - bench ward (nor), chester (liv)
Cabaye (wba), Oscar (sou), Ramsey (car), Barkley (STK) - bench januzaj (tot)
Rooney (tot), Suarez V (hul) aguero C (SWA)

Or should save transfer in case rooney gets suspended which allows me some funds to improve else where?

        Any advice appreciated

Anyone else not interested in the SAR strikeforce? Tried it and went well enough but the sacrifices are not worth it in my opinion. Considering norwich, villa and palace defenders was where I drew the line 😀

it is not so bad to have palace n villa def for now tbh due to the upcoming fixtures..cs wise premium def may not be necessary perform better than cheap def with good fixture.

I'm getting a Crystal Pulis defender next week, and M. Olsson a bit after

Pulis will get Palace organised, Norwich will come good defensively and with Snodders and Pilko out M. Olsson is possibly OOP

Depends how u have played the game so far. Sounds like ur team value is low and u dont have enough for the three.

There are plenty of teams with SAR and big defs and mids
Sorry. Until further notice i wouldnt wanna go without besides rooney at a push
